He looks more handsome without it. The only hat I find suits him is the Battlemage Cowl.
That one and the elven cowl.

Reminds me of his banter with Varric:
- Solas: How can you be happy surrendering, knowing it will all end with you? How can you not fight?
- Varric: I suppose it depends on the quality of the fermented fruit juice.
I can totally see Varric sitting in Kirkwall thinking "ASK ME AGAIN YOU LITTLE **** I'LL ANSWER YOU PROPERLY NOW."
That makes me want to listen to the Solas party banters again. During my first game I was a little surprised how much he argues with the other companions. Now it makes think he was testing them a bit, trying to figure out if they and modern Thedas were worth saving.
He does concede that a romanced Lavellan could possibly be real, and she is not immortal. I'm thinking being real or not is more linked to a state of mind, perhaps an openness to knowledge or more abstract themes?
I believe Cole says: "You're real and it means everyone could be real. It changes everything, but it can't. They sleep, masked in a mirror, hiding, hurting and to wake them...*gasp*"
After Trespasser, I'm in the camp who believes these sleeping ones are Solas's friends, loved ones, or innocents who went into uthenera after the Veil was created and he feels responsible for them. He made it clear the Evanuris deserved eternal banishment, so I doubt he'd be conflicted about them hiding or hurting.
When Solas talked about the world burning in the 'raw chaos', would that have something to do with all the spirits appearing in the world? Probably not a big deal for folks like the Avvar who already expect good spirits (their gods) to help them, but to Ferelden, Orlais, and the Qunari, spirits = demons. The majority of people are going to be afraid of them or fight them and that will make things much, much worse.
It would take generations for the negative view of spirits to change in Thedas and it's obvious Solas doesn't want to wait that long.

If this were actually true, what reason would he have to not tell the Inquisitor? It all sounded so grim and terrible, what with the raw chaos and people must die and walking the path of death. Why not, "I must end this world to save the thousands of elves that lay trapped somewhere?" Not that it would sound any better, but at least the motivation would be more clear.

I think that's why he expect everyone that is not an ancient elf to die. Not because they are unworthy, but because they can't assimilate. For thousands of years people of Thedas were taught to fear and hate things that were supposed to be natural, so how could they possible accept this change?
I've read a lot of speculations in the last few months and I know that some of my own are similar, but I hope that some of my theories are at least a little original. Anyway since we were talking about the raw chaos that is supposed to ensue with the destruction of the veil here are my thoughts.
(Sorry I copy pasted from word and the font was too big, so I tried to make it smaller and ugh too small....trying to fix that.)
I’ve been thinking a lot about the ramifications of taking down the veil. Even before Trespasser I think we all knew there was something bigger coming.
While I played through the game the first time I thought that Corypheus creating the Breach had weakened the ‘prison’ that kept the Old Gods locked away. I figured eventually they were going to come into play at some point in the future. So the desperation for DW was to seal the Breach to slow the breakdown on his seal.
The romantic in me thought he left because his orb was destroyed and without it he couldn’t remove the anchor. I still think this may have something to do with why he left even after the reveals of Trespasser. He needs the orb, or similar power to save the one that saved the world, he owes it to them for fixing his mistake whether he is a friend or foe. Solas is that kind of person. Even if he is on a crash course of self-destruction after Trespasser.
So after Trespasser I still think that the locked away Gods were a big part of the “while this world burned in raw chaos.” We know that most of the elven architecture was built in both the physical and metaphysical (Fade) which is why much of it was damaged or cut off when he created the Veil. So it is probably safe to say that some damage to things made in the physical world will be damaged when the Veil comes down, but we don’t know how much. I almost think that the Veil coming down or not isn’t going to be an option to us. It’s coming down no matter what. Making sure that doesn’t destroy the world is where the challenge will be.
I think that there are going to be at least 4 big issues that come into play with the removal of the Veil. Suddenly people are going to find themselves with magical abilities they don’t know how to control. This is going to cause some major chaos everywhere unless there are preparations made. I think with the knowledge of what might happen the Divine and the Mages can prepare for this to minimize the damage depending on choices made through DA:I.
Second we are going to be dealing with spirits, lots of them. Some good, some bad, and some really, really bad. But this isn’t anything new. We’ve dealt with them in some form since the first game. The Chantry has taught everyone to fear spirits in any form, this is going to cause trouble for the closed minded souls that follow Chantry rhetoric like it’s gospel. We learn from Solas that even good spirits are easily corrupted depending on the people they encounter. But we don’t know how this may have worked before the veil was created, obviously spirits were an integral part of the day to day lives of elves. It is possible with them not being ripped into this world but the two worlds combined there is going to be ‘less’ chaos than what the Breach caused, but then again it could just be my wishful thinking. Even the Avaar understand the nature of spirits better than most humans and elves of the modern age. It’s possible that this isn’t going to be as great a threat as we have been lead to believe after with the events of DA:I. (I know I’m rambling, this is one of the grey areas I’m still working out)
Third we have the Blight. We don’t truly know what started it, nor do we know how to end it. I’m not sure that Solas knows that either. This may be one of those things that always comes around when you least expect it. The first Blight lasted a century! 100 years! I can’t even imagine something like that. We know the 5th Blight lasted a year and was the shortest lived blight in history. We also know from DAO that it was thanks to the Architect that we faced the 5th blight. I think of all the threats this ranks up near the top.
The forth and greatest threat is going to be the Evunaris themselves. As well as the Forgotten Ones. This is going to cause some major fallout for the entire world of Thedas. We know they can’t be completely killed. Mythal’s spirit endures and is quite possibly corrupted with her need for vengeance. I think the theory behind the Evunaris first being spirits is a strong one. Each one represented one main characteristic or emotion. It doesn’t limit them to just that one as long as their actions don’t inherently oppose their original nature. For example Mythal is justice as well as love and family. In Jaws of Haakon we learn that sometimes the ‘gods’ need to be killed in order to be ‘re-born’ because their nature gets corrupted. This could be the solution to their madness, or could potentially make them even crazier than Solas portrays them to be. We do know that it took Mythal years to regain her strength. If I remember the comment from Flemeth right she was little more than a wisp, so it is possible that it will take centuries for them to regain enough strength to become a threat, but at that point there will be other powers stronger.
Whatever he does it’s still only a temporary solution. In another thousand years there will be new problems, new powers in control and who’s to say they aren’t worse than the original threats he locked away? I almost want to see the veil come down. To see a Thedas where everyone has magic, and why not, it’s a fantasy land it should have magic. To strip it of magic makes it too ‘real’ too mundane. I just want to see it done in a way that the world doesn’t suffer needlessly.
Still reading TME.
Felassan.
I understand you now, guys. *sobs*
Edit: I had to stop reading in the middle of a scene, because it's just too painful to read about him.
........now I want to read it.
=/

Which scene?
Which scene?
Him and Briala walking through the slums to find de Chevin.
Oh, it gets feelsier. Much feelsier.

Eh, maybe it's just been a long day. Felassan would probably make a joke about that. *sobs*
He really is the Best Elf. ![]()
Did anyone actually create a backstory that was sort of fluffy and unassuming for their Lavellan? Maybe some of the really young ones, I guess could lean that way.
My Lavellan is quite young. 21 at the start of DAI and she's quite the happy-go-lucky girl. Nice group of friends, loving family. Yeah, just perfect for the heartbreak and pain that awaits her when she gets with Solas.
Solas was her first love (and her, you know, "first") but I imagine she's done a bit of fooling around back in her teens, with at least one bad experience with one of the guys she fooled around with.
So I guess yeah, her background is mostly fluffy.
Solas though. He took her heart, her vallaslin, her arm (technically he took her Anchor but whatever, you get what I mean.
) and is willing to destroy her world to bring back his own (unless you show him another way as a friend or lover that is).
Loving the Dread Wolf is hard. Lavellan definitely got her work cut out for her. ![]()
EDIT: Top Solas! (I was gonna put this on the art post but I guess posting here will do as well.)

I might be hitting my limit on how much tragedy I can handle then.
Seriously, how can I even *hope* for happy Solavellan, it doesn't seem right anymore.
Eh, maybe it's just been a long day. Felassan would probably make a joke about that. *sobs*
Well, remember...this is Solas right after he woke up. When he's still 100% committed to his role as Fen'Harel, and hasn't met or connected to anyone yet.
He really is the Best Elf.
On facebook, there's a picture that's giving me solavellan feels. What is this!?
I also had a foolish thought which is more like a rejection of reality. It would be so much better if I could draw it.
"Solas lifting the Veil.."
*siiiiigh* So many feelings.. I should go to sleep. ![]()
Edit: I also really want to read TME!

Everyone should read TME! It starts out a bit slow, but it sure as heck helps you to better understand what's going on with which people in Wicked Hearts. Though I did feel a bit cheated with how Briala and the rest were portrayed in the game after reading a book about them. They were kind of important to be relegated to an ABC type of decision without really knowing or understanding their characters.
And it has Best Elf in it. Everyone needs Best Elf in their lives.

I thought that TME and Asunder were the best-written of all the Dragon Age books. And yes, I had a lot of Felassan feels.
Anyone else get the weird feeling that Felassan was into Briala, kind of? I wonder if she were strictly lesbian or bisexual? Felassan would have been a healthier relationship for her than Celene, is all I'm saying--but obviously it wouldn't happen if she were only into women.
I've been going over the Trespasser dialogue a bit lately and realized that Solas may have some serious issues with self-esteem. I think he needs some good PR or something...Can't get this song out of my head:
He created the Veil to save the wold, yet he never takes credit for "saving the wold", only the negative unforeseen consequences...He never stops being grim and fatalistic. It's really tragic... ![]()
Also "destroying the world" is clearly a metaphor during the dialogue in which he states (paraphrasing), "In creating the veil...I freed/saved the elves, but I destroyed the world." Quizzy may then respond with "How did creating the Veil destroy the world?" To which he responds with describing the Shattered Library and other fade-sustained wonders like it....IMO, that's nothing close to "destroying the world" or "killing everyone on the planet especially anyone who isn't an elf."
He also blames himself...not the creation of the Veil, but said "It was me" that took away the elves' immortality...Those are not the ravings of a Pride Demon. He is not proud of anything he has done..not even the good things...
