It's definitely bittersweet and I wish I could be as happy as I should be. He isn't even Dalish and it contradicts with him not liking being seen as only an elf.

Except he's deliberately been wandering around alone for most of his life. It seems to me that marriage and children of any type are pretty low on his priorities.
And that brings up the biggest bummer about all this- I loathe any storyline that has to do with fertility/birth/genetics. Lore or not, I feel like it inevitably boils female characters down to what they can do with their wombs, and that is far grosser to me than an allegedly open-minded character not being able to fall in love with a human or dwarf, no matter their personalities/philosophies.

Solas is not somniari. At best he's only a semi-dreamer. He can't manipulate the Fade like a somniari.
Also, if this is about elf babies then I'm going to be kind of....not happy, yeah.

I'm a little sad too. I was hoping for more. I will get over it and probably play an elf first just for him but...

I also worry about how deep his romance will be if he's such an exclusive one. Only a small percentage of players are going to roll elves, after all.
According to DAO telemetry, Zevran was the least popular of the four romances. And I will fight anyone who tells me his romance was even one inch less deep than the others - it was actually the deepest, best written, most well developed romance of them, in my humble personal opinion.
So I wouldn't worry about the depth of his romance based on a presumed number of players who will experience it. I'm positive it has been written with the same depth and care as any other romance in the game.

I disappear for a little bit and suddenly things are happening and exploding again. Solas as elf only confuses me greatly (as others have said), if this is true and we're not getting trolled, anyway. So, back to waiting for updates and playing Blood Bowl for me!

PW loves his geeky characters. It could be he wanted the whole lost lore thing to be a big part of the romance. Who better for that than a Dalish? This does not mean that his romance will be slapdash or inferior. It does mean that PW had a specific story he wanted to tell.

I'm sorry some of my fellow Solassians are feeling bummed about this. I mean, we all knew it was a possibility, but I don't think a lot of us actually thought Solas could be gated like this.

I don't know. It was complex but not as much as Morrigan's. The issue with his romance it starts out with the focus on sex and ignores the romance till later.

I don't think it will have to do with wanting deh elf babiez. He is probably bisexual, so that wouldn't work for males. And I don't think they are going to add a 'must have/want children' to the romance requirement. x3
But this is a really big surprise! I thought he was the least likely to be race-gated, especially against everyone but elves. It'll be interesting to see why. o.o
