Hi everyone! Back again for a bit.
I sort of get some of the hate, a small part of me really wants to smack him in the jaw. From a non-romance standpoint, if you liked Solas because of his uncompromising moral compass (which I did), Trespasser is a big let down. From a romance standpoint, leaving someone for two years without much of a reason and then returning to say 'I still love you' is a TERRIBLE thing to do - at least have the decency to let her move on, dude. I'll probably make at least one Inquisitor which hates the guy and will simply kill him, because I want to see exactly how terrible he can be. I tend to be a massive fan of complex villains and characters with multiple layers, but they still inspire some loathing, I think it's part of the appeal. I like them because they can inspire a strong emotional reaction in me, I like them because their multi-faceted nature means they can often prove that feeling both wrong and right.
I actually really appreciate Bioware giving us that. Those who do want to move on can use the break up button, and those who don't can have their Inquisitors continue to cling on to vain hope (no, I'm not sadistic at all). If Solas had not given her the "I still love you" face, my Lavellan would've been completely broken-hearted, at least now she still has something... As we the players now wait the actual 2 (or 3) years before the next confrontation.

What could you possibly have done IRL to be compared to Sawyer?
I have no idea because I haven't met her yet. I..am quiet? She doesn't talk, right? My friend's views are a little skewed sometimes. ![]()

As for romances, I've only played 3 Bioware games:
Jade Empire: Sky (though I really wanted Sagacious Zu... no similarities to Solas at all, of course not!)
DAO: Flirted with Zevran, romanced Alistair.
DAI: Solas. I haven't even been able to force myself to romance anyone else.

A friend is Russian and his wife is Polish so I'm used to hitting the translate link when these two sometimes comment in their respective languages on Facebook. Someone add that to this forum ![]()
But I get what you mean. It both hinders and helps that I'm a Spanish speaker learning Portuguese because of cognates and word origins, I can read/get the context of Portuguese text beyond the level of the language that I actually know. Also, to varying degrees with the other Romance languages.

Sigh.
And yes, Cullen will reject a man after about three flirts regardless. Cassandra takes longer to reject a woman
and is still super adorable when she does.
But not liking Cassandra...is it too late to return this friend and exchange her for another?
Kidding! At least she's enjoying Solas so far.
I've seen the Cassandra one, I must see the Cullen rejection O_O
I love Cassandra! She's such a layered character, yet still one of the most morally conscious of your group!
I really wonder why BioWare only made flirting available for Cullen, Cassandra, and Dorian (it's just these guys, right?) if you're not their type. It isn't as if Solas wears a sign saying "Female Lavellans only, no flirting allowed" or Sera has one saying (lesbian alert, does not accept male flirt!).
Why? If they weren't going to let you flirt with uninterested parties then they should of done it across all the companions not interested not just a couple.
They really missed out with having a male Adaar flirt with Solas and him get all flustered
or Sera's comment when you trying flirting with her as a man!

I also still find it amusing that, of all the possible names I could have chosen, I managed to use midnight tea's mom's name for fic purposes. I knew it was a Polish variant after looking names up when it came to me, but thought no more about it.
Is your mom a blonde elven mage, midnight tea? ![]()

My aunt is Russian and I'd spend summers staying at my grandmother's with my half-Russian cousin. (It's a common thing for Bulgarian parents to send young children to stay the entire summer with their grandparents. The parents take a break, the grandparents are happy, and the children get spoiled beyond belief.) She'd speak Russian, I'd speak Bulgarian, and we both understood each other. So even now I understand Russian, even though I can't form grammatically correct sentences. I guess it would hinder me if I tried to learn, because I'd expect everything to be similar or have the same meaning, when I know that some words can have different connotations and Russian grammar is waaay different from Bulgarian.

This one is for Solas. Singing doesn't start until 0:50, but the lyrics are remarkably fitting, and they give me ALL TEH FEELS.

Once, I got to spend my spring break traveling to Italy via a university program. I became the unofficial translator/reader for everyone because I could grasp the Italian. At one point, two of us were in Venice, trying to get to Murano, and took the wrong ferry. We got off and walked up to what was apparently a guardhouse and these armed guards came out and were yelling at us in Italian that we couldn't go this way, we needed to turn around and leave. It all made instant sense in my head. A bit of an overreaction. We were two of the most harmless looking 19 year olds on the planet. So I went forward with open palms and managed to communicate, in a mix of Spanish, Italian, and pointing that we took the wrong boat and we were leaving.
In fact, "Spanish, Italian, and pointing" kind of summed up that trip for me. A short sentence in Italian? Totally fine. Anything more? Pointing.
If I attempt to speak actual Italian or write it I get the accent all wrong and can't compose sentences. In Portuguese I can but only because I have done some studying. But the accent sometimes does slip into the wrong place for me. It's one of the hard parts, even though I could sit and read a Brazilian magazine without any real issue.
This is getting me to thinking about elven language. Since understanding is disjointed and broken, if somehow the modern elves survived and really wanted to go study the language, I feel like some of them would be able to relate to these very matters. With the various accents and variations that might have sprung up amid the diversity of the Dalish there might be variations and dialects.

So, because 3 years early isn't too early at all, I'm trying to think about what I want my DA4 protagonist to be like. So now I'm curious, what were your canon characters going through the DA series? Name, race, gender, class, romance, age at the start, whatever you want. And what do you think you might want your DA4 protag, providing they're a new character, to be like? Ideal romance included! For me it was:
DAO: Reina - Human Female - Dual Wield Warrior - Alistair - 19
DA2: Aiden - Human Male - Force Mage - Fenris - 25
DAI: Cari - Elven Female - Knight Enchanter Mage - Solas - 31
DA4: Probably male again so I can keep switching it, I'm thinking qunari but a Tevinter mage might be too hard to pass up. I think having Maevaris as a romance option would be awesome, but I don't know if I'd want her to be a companion. I might want them to be a young'un (early 20s), since I made Cari older so she could better match the previous protags in age.

It's way too early and with no info to even think about the future, though my preference is for the Inquisitor to be the protagonist.
But as for my past canons, the day keeps getting saved by stabby lady rogues. ![]()
Amaya Cousland, 22 or so., Dual wield assassin rogue - Alistair
Mira Hawke -around 25 at the start Dual wield assassin rogue - Anders
Nirwen Lavellan 31 at the beginning of DAI - Dual wield assassin rogue - Solas

DAO: Alexis - Elven Female - Arcane Mage - Alistair - 20
DA2: Maryan - Human Female - Force Mage - Fenris - 25
DAI: Taryn - Elven Female - Tempest Rogue - Solas - 27
DA4: For the sake of variety I should play a male, but I often have to play them in other games so I think I will make a female again... and I kind of like the thought of Thedas being full of these awesome female heroes.
I really liked playing a rogue, but if we are going to Tevinter I feel that I really need to play a mage. Perhaps qunari och human this time? As for romance options, I can't think of anyone we've already met. We have seen both the highs (Dorian) and the lows (Fenris) of Tevinter society, so perhaps someone in between - a Soporati? Perhaps someone running an underground movement to free slaves? Or a Tevinter Templar? The age of my protagonist will depend on what kind of circumstance she is in.
*Edit* I'm an idiot, I forgot Solas ![]()

As for me:
DAO: Lyall - Human Female - Mage (Arcane Warrior/Battlemage) - no romance - 19
DA2: Maude - Human Female - Mage (Spirit Healer) - Anders - 25
DAI: Connie - Human Female - Mage (Rift Mage) - Cullen - 27
DA4: I'll definitely continue my Human Female Mage thing, if the game lets me. Depending on setting, I may actually do another 'no romance' character (tho there's always possibility of someone unresistible appears). Most likely someone in their mid-twenties.
Although...
though my preference is for the Inquisitor to be the protagonist.
I'll quietly hope for this to happen. Quizzy to the rescue.

I loved those summers with my grandparents. And it wasn't always summer for me either, my grandmother raised me till I was about 5, and I'd see my mom only on weekends, since she was in university, and my dad never, since he was in military school. They live in a very rural area, have a donkey and a cart instead of a car, light fire in a stove to heat a room in winter, have sheep, goats, and a farm. It's a totally different life. I still remember small, ridiculous things, like how you could hang laudry out to dry in the fall, and if the weather gets unexpectedly cold overnight, the laundry would be frozel solid in the morning. (Now that I think of it, I should work that into my fic.) My cousin and I would spend the entire day playing on the streets completely unattended and get into all sorts of trouble ![]()
