Am I the only one who tends to headcanon my characters in their 30's or more? ... Somehow, I can't play younger than myself.

Will suck in a time... I suppose.

 

I've noticed my characters have gotten older as the games have gone on. My wardens are all quite young: Brosca was scarcely 19, and I think my Surana hadn't even had her 18th birthday yet. My Hawke, even though she's got a set age, always came off as being in her mid-twenties to me, around 24/25/26. And my Lavellan is 33 years old.

 

Perhaps my DA4 protagonist (if they're not the quizzy) will be in her forties. I've tried to mix about with classes and races, so I jump from a curious dwarf duel-wielding warrior to cynical human blood mage to sweet-natured elven knight enchanter. I think I'll probably go for a snarky 42 year old qunari spear-thrower in the next game

Yeah, Hawke's age is fairly set iirc, and many of the Warden Origins only gave you a little wiggle-room in terms of age. Headcanoning what you like is still valid though.

 

For me:

Mahariel was 22 at the start of DA:O (for reference, I played her when I was uhh 19 I think). Hawke was 24 at the start of DAII (I was 20). Lavellan was 28 at the start of DA:I (I was 24).

As of 9:44 Dragon, my Mahariel is 33 (she's now a year older than me), Hawke is 39 (Wow, almost 40! Though I left her in the Fade so she's probably dead.), and Lavellan is 24.

I question the entire meaning behind Solas' name. It means pride, and he has more than enough of it, but his wolf self-portrait has eyes similar to a pride demon. Either he thinks of himself as some corrupted form of wisdom, or he relates to pride so greatly he embraces it. I suspect Solas was given to him by another, most likely Mythal.

About the whole "the world has been told about Solas".... well, we don't really know how much has been revealed. It may as well be that publicly people only know that Solas helped saved the world from Qunari threat and that he's actually an ancient elf rebel of some sort, who tries to help his people... and that's it!

 

I mean... can you imagine Inquisition revealing the whole truth and telling the Chantry-dominated South that large part of their religion is a LIE? That the Evanuris might have been "false gods", but they're more real than Maker ever was? That now they don't just have to fight the opponent who has means to pierce the Veil, but the creator if it???

 

That would definitely not end with "a few years of relative peace", oh lol, hell no...

 

Also - yes, the Arl accuses "this Solas" (not Dread Wolf, which means he may not know the whole truth) of provoking the Qunari, but it's nothing more than an emotionally charged accusation that can be easily dismissed by pointing out that infiltration has been going on for some time, everybody's been infiltrated and gaatlok has been found as far as Denerim. He also doesn't seem to know that his Orb was the reason Corypheus managed to cause the explosion in the first place, otherwise I think the things they were discussing when Inquisitor entered the room would be much different (from declaring war on elves to accusing Inquisition and Inquisitor of being responsible for explosion in the first place, likely in a bid to accumulate power).

 

So no - I don't think the entire truth has been revealed, as I don't see it as beneficial to either Inquisitors who want to redeem or destroy him. In fact, IF Solas was publicly painted to be a hero, who returned to help Inquisition defend the South AGAIN, it would actually be information Inquisition and Inquisitor could use for their advantage, as well as calm people down a bit - or at least ensure that their new secret mission goes as it's planned, with South placated and focused on rebuilding, elves perhaps being given time to find a safe spot and wait things through (who said it's Solas who warns them that things may turn nasty and they have to move? What if it's actually Inquisition? I mean, let's face it: even if Solas was doing nothing, the elves would still get flack for working with the Qunari) while Inquisitor scours the world in search of answers.

omg I finally created Male Lavellan and I was planning on romancing Dorian with him :3 I have wanted to do this for a long time hahaha


I just wanted to share him and ask what you guys think about his looks? Lol would Dorian like him? hmm OH And if you guys have male lavellans or male characters I would love to see them as well! IF you are willing to share :3

I don't know if there is any real information about distances. In Origins Dagna tells the Warden that trip from Orzammar to the Circle Tower will take about two weeks. We know where both of these locations are in a map, so that should help a little. Or someone else will tell you more specific information.

Helena Amell would be 30, Ginny Hawke would be 38, Sophia Lavellan would be 33. I find it funny that they all started the same age as me or much younger, but now they're older. Amell and Lavellan are still in the same stage of life, but Hawke must be much wiser by now. Some day I'll spend some time to think how her jokester personality could evolve realistically.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that. Like every higher form of being Solas is not just a regular spirit/demon, and the nature of such beings doesn't just shift between two black-and-white forms/concepts that seem opposite of one another, with one being good and another being bad.

 

I mean, "pride" isn't even any sort of negative thing in itself. People who are proud - or proud of something - aren't necessarily bad. It's excessive pride - hubris - that is bad; the extreme form of pride demons seem to embody.

 

 

And let's face it - "good" things aren't necessarily good in themselves as well. Nightmare is alluded to initially be a spirit of Compassion, who began taking too much from people, initially because it thought it helps them. Even sweet, innocent Cole killed people because he thought that's the only way to help them as well.

 

And Wisdom in itself seems to be inert - Solas's spirit friend seemed to be content just hoarding information, and while it shares it happily with anyone who asks, it seems disinterested in venturing out to seek others out of its own will... which is likely why Solas is known as Pride and not Wisdom. He has enough of confidence and willingness to share what he knows (not unlike Cole, who had enough of personality and bravery to venture outside of the Fade in order to help people). For better or worse he's proactive - a trait I think everyone agrees Solas has in spades.

I would add to that that Solas clearly has self-awareness about his less positive traits. I think Pride and Wisdom actually lie on a spectrum. The Wisdom spirit is on one end, a Pride demon is on the other, and Solas is actually somewhere in between. So he is always aware that Pride is a strong characteristic within him, but strives to control it and not let it push him towards the demonic side. So he may have taken the name Pride the same way he appropriated the title of Dread Wolf - a badge of honor he wears for all to see.
