Well the one with the test is basically a math-punning teddy bear, but apparently he's a stickler for not having retakes.

I'll try sending him an e-mail. Thanks for the comments, everyone.

Okay, who else thinks that after all of those burns, EggCrusher should have been upgraded to honorary Dark Lord of the Sith?

'Tis I ...

Yesterday I promised sliders for both of my Lavellan's and here they are. Now I can't take full credit of these sliders, because they are tweaked versions from sliders posted somewhere (lost my sources to the great computer crash). Inside spoilers there are in-game screenshots of my elves, just for reference. I tried to upload all relevant sliders, but if something is missing let me know.

I'm pretty sure he says "Where did you think we were?"

*rewatches*. Yep. So he's speaking completely past tense and Quizzie is speaking in the present. That still doesn't make sense.

I'd associate him with a waltz.

In terms of fic writing, I've been looking up multiple things, including images and the main issue I sometimes run into is finding reference images that are not overly sexual, in the wrong position, or unrelated.  Looked up clothing info and information on tanning (how to prepare skins for eventual dyeing/tanning/leatherworking). I needed only about two or three lines that referenced it, but Nirwen's mother is a tanner, so that was researched.

I've also been very mindful when writing about the past to try and avoid some of the awful stereotypes that often plague tales of queer romance. Even though their relationship does inevitably end and sure, they have their conflicts, there's sometimes such a lack of relatively happy F/F stories. I had this discussion the other day with some people, with regards to fanfiction as well as general literature.

(I found this the other day, for October: http://www.queerromancemonth.com/if anyone else is interested.)

Yeah.....this is kind of what my research has led to.

I've also concluded that I think I would enjoy dancing with Zevran more. Let's face it, Zevran would be something like the Samba, Tango or Rumba.

I also decided that I think Fenris would be a mosh pit and Alistair is senior prom. I'm trying to think of others.

"Where did you think we are?" sounds more awkward to me than the line in the game.

Totes. I'm suggesting "Where DO you think we are?"

'Did you think' says the thinking was done in the past and is no longer occurring. But at the moment that Solas is speaking it is a thought that Lavellan is having at that moment. It is, when he utters the line, a present tense thought. This remains true until after he has finished speaking and Lav thinks about it and changes her mind. Only at that moment, after Solas has spoken, does the "we are in Haven' thought become past tense.

I think.

It is kind of weird that the past tense was being used...

@Mairemalley, maybe Solas was already out of the Haven scene in his head even though Lavellan was still there...?

Solas fans dissecting every little detail to do with Solas.

General statement: there seems to be a lot of mess-ups in solas's dialogue writing (or we're all just overanalyzing lol)

  1. past tense talking in the fade
  2. Solas saying he begged quissy not to drink from the well, which he never did. Weekes admitted this was a writing mistake on his part.
  3. during the mages quest, when you find Solas in his cell he says "We saw you die!" in protest to your quissy still being alive. While this might not sound awkward on paper, it sounds very awkward said outloud and in context. He wasn't with anyone in the cell. He probably hadn't seen the other companions for 2 years. Why would he say we? He was completely alone when quissy found him. Seems like a slip-up in the writing

they're probably tons of other mistakes with the rest of the companions too. I mean if you stare hard enough at something, you're bound to find imperfections.

(but really solas has the soul of the maker in him and is actually shartan's dad whose come to spread righteous elven dominance over all of thedas)

^it's funny how half of that is kinda true

It's really just a way of speaking that is a thing in English. I don't think we need to read into it. It's grammatically correct as written and isn't referring to the past.

Just googled a sentence and found this book quote:

"A smirky Crystal, her foot planted firmly on the accelerator answered, “Where did you think we were going?"

It's a moment taking place in the present, yet uses this tense.

Just popping in after beating Trespasser for the fourth(? I've lost count) time to wave my massive Team Optimism flag and remind everyone of this tiny bit of Cole dialogue:

He wants to give wisdom, not orders.

(Which reaffirms my belief that he was an actual spirit of wisdom at one time. He just loves sharing knowledge too friggin much.)

But more importantly that he really does not want to be on this path, and those of us who wish to change his course can do so in DA4 by splashing tea in his face to bring him back to his senses.

Lukewarm tea. We don't want to make him any angrier than he'll already be. (Though I kinda picture the Wicked Witch's demise now.)

It struck me as discordant the first time I heard it in game. I forgot about it until I was watching that clip and all the 'heyyyy' came flooding back. :P

If it does mean that Solas was already "out of the Fade" at that time, it tells us something about how the Fade works, no? Or how Solas/elvhen interact with it.

I can see now that I'm going to be completely insane by the time DA4 comes out.

"but guys, listen! According to my charts, intranscendentalism in the Fade is both concurrent and concomitant with the bifurcated nature of the Elvhen as CLEARLY expressed in my post on the post-exilic relationship between dragons and the dichotomous fractures of the primordial entity of the evanuris!"

He's not talking in the past tense. I am trying to remember if this particular way of speaking has a name/which tense this is, but he's not talking in past tense. This is just how people talk.

And "we saw you die" refers to the moment when you and Dorian succumb to Alexius' magic and go into the future. You had companions in that moment.

I'm guessing they may have seen the inqusitior get killed then they were then taken prisoners. That's how I saw that little bit.

true, but considering he was alone for 2 years ... using "we" just seemed a bit awkward. Every time I hear that line it always sounds wrong to me .. x-x

I don't know Cee, I agree with you about Crusher's third point but I don't think your example sentence works for the Fade situation. Solas is talking about a prese situation like it has past while Crystal was talking about a future situation, that was happening, but she spoke as if it was done with.

That's how I read the "we" who saw Quizzie die.

If that's some manner of colloquialism, is it maybe more of an American thing? Dunno. I've never heard it before, though I have heard the likes of "where do you think you're going?" So, yeah, it may just be a way of speaking. One I find abhorrent, but oh well

It's not at all clear from that quotation whether or not the person she's speaking to is still having that thought or not. If the passenger had thought they were going to the mall and just expressed shock at the discovery that they're going to the dentist, then the line makes perfect sense. And is referring to a past tense though. Which doesn't clear up Solas's line at all.

I didn't mean Solas was out of the Fade par say, just that he was out of the Haven scene. He projected it, with Lavellan there, but maybe in the course of being there (like when he uses his hand to close the rift) he projects himself into anew scene while Lavellan remains there.

^This. Solas and the rest of the companions saw Alexius use magic which caused the Inquisitor and Dorian to disappear and they assumed they both got killed. They didn't know that Quizzy and Dorian were actually sent into the future, which is the reason for the "we saw you die" line.

As for the past tense thing, I never really thought about it until someone here brought it up but like Cee, I just assumed that's just how people talk. (I tend to sometimes talk in the past tense as well, even though it's the present. :P)

By the way guys, if my words have gotten all crappy it's because I'm typing on my phone now and it is completely obnoxious. I can't see anything I've previously written so it's probably a good thing it comes out coherent at al.

Okay, I just rewatched the scene and I think I'm switching to Cee's side now.
It does sound like something someone would say (maybe not in real life but definitely in a book or movie).
Sorry, it just looked weirder typed I guess.
I surrender to your judgement Cee.
