Looking at this way, I 100% agree, it makes both semantic and grammatical sense. And heads off a very awkward conversation.

I don't know Cee, I agree with you about Crusher's third point but I don't think your example sentence works for the Fade situation. Solas is talking about a prese situation like it has past while Crystal was talking about a future situation, that was happening, but she spoke as if it was done with.

For me when I saw the fade scene I never thought about that too much because I thought that it's just the way to say it in English because in Finnish our timing like when we speak about the ''future'' we speak it as present. We do not say '' I will be doing this '' we say '' We are doing it ''

PS: It really was a nice mind exercise and everyone brought good POVs and knowledge to the table to be mulled over. So yes, it honestly was a pleasant discussion 8D

...the first time I heard Solas say it, my reaction was "WHAAAAAAT, OMG you can´t kill everyone in the world!!! O_o"

But he never actually says that everyone WILL die. He doesn't even say that a majority of people will die (although it is probable that a large number will imo). What he says is that "this world must die" and "as this world burns in chaos".

 

That doesn't necessarily mean all the people in it will automatically die(or is it just me being naive and optimistic?^^). I see it as a huuuuge change in the order of the world of Thedas, which of course will be tumultuous and chaotic (and people will die) - but not a mass extinction...

Does "live well while time remains" must mean Inky will die? I think you can read it as "live well until the Veil comes down and shit hits the fan", "save you at least for now" is the same.

He doesn't seem certain everybody will die, he says to low-approval Inky "most likely" and there are more hints in the conversation with him.

He probably foresees a change and doesn't know how it will affect the broken people of Thedas.

I'm agreeing with the Sundermount theories offered up here. Worth noting that the cave that Merrill's demon buddy is in is called "Pride's End", and that there's one of those multi-armed fat statues that's been linked to the ancient elves, the Dales, and Dumat-worshipers. The 'Thing in the Dark' that's caused no end of theorizing.

there's been a threat of a shooting at my college tomorrow. After all of the shootings in the past year in the area, the tendency for copycat shootings, the shooting a few days ago, and the unstable personality of the person making the threats, everyone's a little bit on edge. And a lot of us have tests tomorrow, but the school is insisting that classes go on as scheduled.

I really don't want to fail my math class. But I also don't fancy dying. Anyone have any experience with school threats like this? I come from a small town. The most shocking, dangerous thing to happen to us is when one guy smoked all of the pot and tried to park in the teachers' spot in his tractor.

 

Just stay safe tomorrow.

Umm, are you sure you're not over-analyzing the whole "We saw you die" line? I really never saw it that way and thought it's just stating the obvious -- that Solas and the rest of the companions saw Quizzy and Dorian "die".

Like his world died.

It could be metaphorical, he said he destroyed the world, but Thedas still exists, dwarves still exist, elves still exist.

 

I'm 100% certain the Veil will come down in the next game (there are 3 different prophecies foreseeing that and several prominent characters speaking about an upcoming change), I think that the sundering of Veil will not kill everybody because then Thedas will just end.

When he spoke about his previous plan to rip down the Veil via his orb he said that while the world burned in raw chaos, he would've restored the elvhen, I think chaos = spirits, demons, people getting magic, mages growing suddenly stronger, titans awakening, etc.

If having the Fade merge with the unchanging world will cause anybody to die, Solas will stop being grey, it will change him from a compelling antagonist to a full on evil villain. Moreover, (in my eyes) it isn't as interesting if there is nothing to be gained from the removal of the Veil, it takes from the story.
