Mini art break.
Gorgeous sketches of Solas. ![]()
Some Inktober Solas stuff.
Fen'Harel and Wolf outline. (Tumblr link version.)
And not art but here's a Solavellan cosplay.
Generally I feel like Solas has plenty antagonist, negative traits that make lots of people dislike and want to stop him as it is without adding dubcon or noncon to the mix.
Also I know people have their.. things.. and whatever, power to you.. but I'm just leery of the whole thing, uncomfortable, never wanna make light of the issue or use it as a plot device or whatever else.. beh. Not for me.
Spoiler
Yeah, that's the only way I was able to reconcile her Solas with the game Solas. Her Solas is pretty good anyway even if it's not exactly like the game.
I've only just finished the game & having some... I dunno, I guess difficulty settling between what he's said/done/plans when it comes to a romanced Lavellan.
I dunno, if that's because I've only just finished playing, or my own hang ups... *shrug*
Welcome Asperath! We have blankets and cookies.
You're not the first one to struggle with Solavellan after Trespasser. Personally, I think Solas truly cares for Lavellan, but he is resigned to save his people at any cost, including her life and his own if it comes to that.
The Dresden Files, also by Jim Butcher. More modern, but definitely fantasy and definitely an epic.
The Dresden Files are fantastic! I'd also highly recommend a similar series called the Alex Verus Series by Benedict Jacka. Alex is diviner mage who can see into the future. It makes magical combat really interesting because even though he can't take on an elemental mage in a straight fight, he can dodge attacks by predicting what moves they will make. It also helps him narrow down which conversation options will avoid a fight altogether or pit his enemies against one another. He survives by constantly out-thinking his opponents - a bit like Fen'Harel maybe? ![]()
On topic!
For awhile now I've assumed that when Solas refers to 'his people', he means the ancient elves and not the modern ones. This seems to be further confirmed by The Masked Empire. If helping the modern elves was a priority, then Felassan shouldn't have died for coming to think of them and Briala as real people.
However, Flemeth makes some references to 'the people' and seems to include modern elves, for example, Merrill in DA2. She must have some plan involving them since she's speaking to elven servants in Orlais through their dreams. Though it sounds like the dreams are unpleasant... Not sure if that bodes well or poorly for modern elves in the grand plan.
I couldn't continue Crystal White for exactly that reason too. It just didn't feel like Solas to me. I really love Faynite's latest even thought I don't completely agree with her timeline of events in elvhenan. Young pup Solas is adorkable and realistically portrayed I think. You see the man he can become, even behind the general immaturity. Also, I love her concept of Dreaming birth vs Waking birth to explain spirits becoming elves.
I was able to get past it in Crystal White because she didn't go into detail about it in the main story. But then later on, she write a one page thing about the whole
I might be the snarky Fly'Harel on the thread, but IRL I'm very shy and polite with strangers.

personally, it's way too close to the whole "daddy" kink thing people have irl. I don't care how sexy you are. If you want me to call you daddy, get out and never come back.
Also, he's already powerful enough as it is. The amount of leverage, power and knowledge wise, he has over Lavellan already makes me uncomfortable. Accentuating that with Da'len and Hahren pet names is just one tiny step too far.
edit: all my opinion. I feel very strongly about this due to personal reasons, so no offense to anyone intended

The whole "hahren" "da'len" thing makes me think they should be calling each other Solas-sensei and Lavellan-chan and then it brings to mind a whole lot more weird things. *shudders* Now I need mind bleach...

Flemeth and Solas (and Abelas) have very different perspectives on who the People are, I think. And that makes sense. Solas and Abelas have spent most of the past millenia in uthenera, and both have had mostly negative interactions with modern elves, while Mythal's been able to see (and manipulate) much of the world as Flemeth, so she's had more time to adjust to modern elves. This photoset sums their attitudes up pretty well:

Edit: I have no idea whether that means she's going to try and save the modern elves though. She does say: "You know not what you ask," when you badger her about why she's kept herself away.

AH GOD what have you done ?!!?!?
Solas uses da'len in the beginning of my fic, because he also uses it in game, and I think it fits his attitude in the beginning. If they're actually in a relationship, I would find it uncomfortable too.
Agreed. I love the egg, but at least to me, he comes off a bit condescending at the beginning. Especially during that little spat about the Dalish. But I think by the time the relationship kicks in, he sees Lavellan as an equal.
And I am cruelly out of likes. Sable?
I would like to take this moment to point out that I like tea. Therefore, not everything is my fault. Hello, sleepy logic ![]()
Yeash, I saw it. I meant in game I have no idea.
?
You just press print screen in game. The screenshot is saved to your screenshot folder.
Few more pics of my Qunari Female more close
Have you shared her on DAI Modder Central's 'Fantastic Inquisitors'? I'm sure I've seen her before.
AH GOD what have you done ?!!?!?
Sorry?
Here, have a kitten

But why condescending? In the in-game dialogue, she called him hahren first, then he replies with da'len. Also I get the feel it's not a derogatory term but just a way to address someone younger. She is younger, and at that point he probably does not expect to fall in love, and how that would be creepy in retrospect.
Edit: Top Solas. I love all the screens of him casting mindblast. Solas does mindblast like nobody else. Fron Solas-an.

Outta likes! So many laughs.
And Sundermount. Sundermount. Sunder.mount. Why was it sundered.. Dirthamen's varterrals were there, Dirthamen's temple was kiiiinda close ish.
Anyhow, the fade calls.
And stay safe tomorrow everyone! Take a jar of bees

You think she may have been trying to warn them about Solas? As of the epilogue to DA:I, she does know that Solas is awake and plotting something with the orb. She's a smart cookie; she probably worked out his plan before he killed her.
Personally, I don't think Mythal is particularly benevolent; she's clearly got her own agenda, and the way she talks about her betrayal during the dialogue in the Fade makes me very nervous. But she does see the modern elves as "the People," so maybe the dreams were her way of tipping them off. A gesture that requires little effort on her part, but helps nudge them in the right direction.

Not that specific line. The hahren/da'len line is basically them apologizing for losing their tempers, and trying to smooth things over by being polite. I was talking about the start of that dialogue tree. The whole bit about the Dalish being children acting out stories. That came off condescending to me, so my Lavellan snarked back, and things devolved a bit
I didn't actually get the line where he calls Lavellan "da'len" the first time I played. I was too busy throwing shade.
Now I'm starting to feel ashamed of my own (weird) kinks when it comes to Solas. (Sometimes I feel like the black sheep of this thread when it comes to those things.)

Nothing to be ashamed of. Fantasy is just fantasy.

I love dom!Solas
I know it can be OOC, but I don't care. It's hot.
(still prefer dom!Lavellan though)

Yeah. To me it just seems like adding in Darkness (with the capital D) for the sake of being dark.

Got ya. Thanks for claryfying. Agree, he's very condescending about the Dalish.

Noo, don't be ashamed, falon! I have kinks too, everyone does. (my kinks are spoielred below)

Personally, I think it's good to question your own preferences every now and then, your kinks being one of them. Like, why do I have this preference? What does that say about me, as a person, and the society that shaped me into this person? But in the same way feminism could never stop me from enjoying the Grease movie no matter how many times I watch it, there's really nothing wrong with liking what you like, so long as it doesn't hurt you or anybody else.
