Seriously, Patrick?
Darrah has gone silent.
Really surprised about the gated to elves only thing, but can't stop, must post celebration gifs!

Wonder who's he race-gated against.
Wow, didn't expect Solas to be one of the racegated characters. My respect for the character has dropped, which sucks because he was going to be my main mage.
Wonder who's he race-gated against.
Uh......non-elves?
Wonder who's he race-gated against.
Everyone but elves.
Wonder who's he race-gated against.
Dwarves, Humans, and Qunari.
Personally, I see no reason to celebrate just yet.
Is everyone just assuming he is Bi?
Or do they not care if he is straight-only because it doesn't affect them if he is?
Ok I'm on a proper computer now so yay ![]()

I've been interested in Solas for waaaaay too long to turn back now, extreme gating or no. ElfQuisitor here I come!
Dang. It's gonna suck when people who romanced Solas figure out he was one of the people behind the veil tear using his knowledge of the fade.
100% ok with this
Irenicus was my dream man for a while *grabby hands*

I'm celebrating because I'd roll either gender to be with him, despite my EXTREME preference for playing female characters. Just thankful he's an option at all.
I'm laughing at the reactions. ![]()
Congrats ppl.
he is Somniary so he is pretty dalish elf by nature even if he was not rased as ones or city elfs
Solas is elven, but that doesn't necessarily make him Dalish - he'd have to follow elven culture and the faith of the Creators to be Dalish. I do wonder what Solas believes in, given his unorthodox views of the Beyond (which don't seem to be similar to Dalish or Andrastian views).
But him being race-gated makes so sense at all.
Oh, well.
Well, I thought so too at first, but there are lots of reasons, story-wise, he might prefer to romance an elf, even if he's bisexual. Don't judge until you play the game - we don't really know him yet, do we?
Why only elf, though? Why can't my human mage get some loving? It's not a problem, but what would Solas have against the other races?
Should we tweet Mike to double confirm?
Edit: I mean, OMG. Solas is LI?
Solas might not have a problem with the other races personally. He might even find them attractive. Maybe there are other reasons. Or maybe he just doesn't find them attractive. Races in Thedas are almost species, they're so different--maybe they ARE species, because among humans at least there are different ethnic and racial groups (Fereldan vs. Rivaini vs. Antivan). Not that hard to understand why someone might have a preference for someone more similar to them, even if it does seem like being open-minded would allow for greater variety.
Solas is 1 of the few companions who do not betray my expectations on them
i aprove that he is elf female only and this is make sense, its a pity that Sera is lesbian because i want to romance her with my elf mage Inquisitor
The choice to make him elf-only may have something to do with Iron Bull being originally gated against elves. In that case, Solas would be available to elves of both gender. It also makes it much more likely that Blackwall is the final LI, and not Vivienne (who is too busy fro our business).
Solas is not somniari. At best he's only a semi-dreamer. He can't manipulate the Fade like a somniari.
Also, if this is about elf babies then I'm going to be kind of....not happy, yeah.
Well, it is kind of gross to be looked at only as a child-bearer, yes. But my planned elf had a similar philosophy--she wouldn't romance a man of another race (she might consider a woman), because elves are dying out and because elf-blooded humans aren't treated too well. If there's a possibility of children happening at all, they'd need to be elven. Otherwise, I think she'd rather promote peace--though if the humans treat her too poorly, or the qunari look down on her, well, her attitude may change.
I was thinking about it, and I theorize that it has nothing to do with Solas hating other races, and probably not even about having kids (though that may or may be a bonus depending what he thinks about children). Rather, he's elf-only because he has an interest in joining the Dalish, and getting romantic with a Dalish who is close with his or her Keeper might be a good way to join a Dalish Clan. Although he doesn't want to be seen as an elf before a person, the Dalish are one of the remaining bastions of truly elven culture--and they'd be interested in what he knows, also. There'd be a give and take, since Solas likely knows a lot of elven history, but wants to be part of the Dalish, where he may feel safer as a mage than wandering alone (or maybe not?).
Whether it ties in with the above theory or not, he could also still be an ancient elf. It's doubtful, but possible--and of course if he's an ancient elf, that would make him all the more eager to be around a truly elven culture. Or maybe it's even that he feels elves have strayed from their heritage, and if he joined them he could help them get back on track?
I don't know. I'm pleased he's an LI, though. I do hope he's bisexual so all of those who still want him, knowing they must play an elf, can have him. I already planned an elven playthrough first, so it's not a biggie for me.
Yeah, sorry but I can't fully celebrate yet. Wish they would just come clean instead of being like "check with darrah lol"
I'll fully celebrate when we get the official statement and what his sexuality is.
I have read through the last 15 pages. Sooo.. Solas is a LI (YAY!!!!), but elves only?! Well, that does not seem to suit him. But anyways, I love elves, so I am planning to play as an elf first anyways. And male elf that is. I do hope he is bi. Coz Solas seemed to be all about "personality before race/gender", but I guess not.
Still I´m happy!!! ![]()

A lot of us have suspected him being in league with the big bad... Bring it. ![]()

The Voice of reason in a house of madness usually get's ignored.

Bioware said the race-gated romance are for story reasons so I get the feeling his going to be important to the story.
Now I'm getting the vibe that he might be involved in the fade tear somehow. It would certainly make for a good plot twist.
I smell an Anders 2.0
Simply not being physically attracted to humans would be...something. Elves are not that different looking than humans.
