hello thread. I started my masters today and already have forty pages of early twentieth century german philosophy to read for tomorrow ;__; suffice to say activity is on the dowwwwn.
Also interesting to know I'm not the only person who has thought about how their Warden reacted to DA2.
My Surana actually followed a similar trajectory to Anders - she was much more canny about it though, outwitting and out-manouevering people (including selling out Jowan, which she regrets) in order to get her freedom through the Wardens. Like Anders, when the opportunity presented itself, she was simply glad to be free and primarily was self-interested, focussed on her continued survival, not even considering that she
could help other mages. It's only as time goes on and she spends longer outside of the circle she becomes much more outspoken, turns into a hardline anti-circle libertarian. Out of the DA:A squad, Justice was perhaps the character she was closest to - he helped continue this line of thought, strengthened her convictions, inspired her to do better. I headcanon that she remained (secretly) in touch with Anders after he left, likely providing resources and links to the Mage Underground, using cleared deeproads tunnels to their advantage, and was one of the reasons such a prominent apostate managed to survive in Kirkwall so long - her political influence and her ability to cover tracks was useful. Likely she was part of a whole network of mage-freedom contacts all along the Waking Sea.
Eventually the Wardens figured out she was playing politics a bit too... controversially, for their liking (Wardens play politics all the ****** time despite their supposed 'neutrality', it's how they've secured power in most nations, it's just usually they run with the tide instead of against it). They couldn't strip her of all titles or kick her out because of her prominence, so they basically exiled her to some nowhere-outpost and gave her an impossible task - finding the cure for the calling - as a punishment, which allowed her freedom to work without irritating too many nobles.
The Chantry explosion at Kirkwall happened not too long afterwards. In that canon, my Hawke's pro-templar and Anders is killed on the spot. She was absolutely devastated by it. She was unable to support two of her closest friends when they were at their literal worst, and were executed in cold blood for their mistakes which she believed she could have prevented (she probably wouldn't have been able to stop them, but she 100% believes she could, after all, she's saved the world once already).
If I ever get around to writing the fic where she ends up becoming the Inquisitor, it'll be a whole barrel of laughs, honest. no drama or unresolved issues here. whatsoever.
yeah the hahren/da'len thing is so not my jam
neither is dom solas
neither is ancient slave owning solas
[makes no.jpg face]

yeah, I'm so so so so glad that trespasser hinted that he probably wasn't originally part of the nobility or slave-owning class, and Fen'Harel was likely never formally considered part of the pantheon. or hahren/da'len. or, really, just any power play with dom Solas where it's not absolutely
crystal clear that this is a staged roleplay that is restricted to their bedroom, 100% consensual, which they've already discussed and negotiated beforehand in depth.
won't say no to a bit of dom Lavellan though
If we are talking about fanfic...
Edit: I'm talking about Feynite's works and Crystal White in the spoilers section.
Yeah, I couldn't read Crystal White for that reason
I love fanfiction, but it's a little disappointing how after much the writers went out of their way to stress that Fen'Harel in the flesh is a quiet dorky elf with strong moral principles who denies his divinity, rather than the feared trickster god of legend, people seem to write him as the latter more than the former.
I guess I wasn't phased by how he looked in early concepts/screens cause like, if the concept of a character intrigues me, sign me right up. Also after romancing a space dinosaur alien bird lizard man.. a guy with MANDIBLES and A BEAK-LIKE MOUTH and a WASPY THORAX and external CARAPACE.. yeah I'm okay with some bald weird lookin elf lmfao. I just don't really care.
Mass Effect actually made me reconsider most of my sexual preferences and criteria in partner given that I was pretty happy to bang a space lizard because his voice was hot.
Solas is relatively normal when I think about it in that context.
