I wish I could sass him back without disapproval consequences in my romanced canon. Damn, sometimes he truly does deserve a kick in the groin. I am weirdly protective over Sera (and romancing her now with my dwarven Inky), and it takes a very long time for him to warm up to her in a party. Vivienne is already moving out my bedroom furniture, he might as well join her on my dwarven playthrough.

Solas practically bleeds early game approval, moreso with romanced Lavellan.  I did a bunch of things that got disapproval when playing Adaar (sided with Gaspard, disagreed about blood magic and spirits, made Cole human, Tranquilled Erimond), and still wound up with friendship Solas.  Just keep him in your party for all the "helping people" quests in the Hinterlands (like Agrarian Apostate), and pick up a few extra elven artifacts.

I know and he likes me rather a lot so far - but I am playing with the Trials switched on for double the disapproval this time (besides most of the others being on as well), so I expect it to plummet soon. I conscripted Templars this time (playing warrior), thought he will get mad for no mages, and ended up pleasing him with Sera and atagonizing everybody else. Skyhold is a very cold place, besides his study and Sera's little room where she calls me her little cutie. Yep. Cold indeed. Lucky to be Cadash this time around. ;)

To add. My Adaar allied with Templars, made Gaspard Emperor, drank from the Well and still was good friends with Solas. I don't know how you can get him to not like you  Asking questions seem to be enough to make him happy.

I would also take him to Crestwood. There are a few occasions for approval from him.

Ah, I see.  I haven't tried any of the trials yet.  Not sure if I'm going to...if I go through DA:I after finishing Adaar, it'll be to replay Lavellan.  And I want the warm and fuzzy friendships that I got the first time :)  It took me almost all game to get Cass's approval up, since my Lavellan kept doing this:

Hah, my Lavellan(s) do this too.  Then by the time you get to the point where she's telling you that some people are asking what Andraste said to your char in the Fade (after Adamant) my chars are usually all *disgusted noise* FINE!  Tell them Andraste loves them!  *starts sulking*

Well, that's the thing though. People don't tend to like a kick in the groin. Even if you feel they deserve it, they sure don't like it. It's kind of unrealistic to expect to be able to do it without any approval consequences.

Thankfully Solas just "slightly disapproves" for most conversation quips, but he bleeds approval in nearly every other situation (quests where you help people, help elves, help wolves, ask "Solas?" when talking to elven characters--like Hyndel, Hihris, Jana, that elven healer in Redcliffe, etc), so you should be able to occasionally sass him without significant approval drops.

Ahahah, yep, I am a denier as well. Creators first (although later to be disheartened for her), Stone now. Variety! My husband was playing his inquisitor as a completely devoted andrastian. Not my cuppa.

It's perverse, but while my Lavellan's not thrilled about missing half her left arm, I think part of her is also relieved to be rid of the Anchor.  For a while, her greatest fear was that the rumors were true, and she'd actually been chosen by Andraste.  The knowledge that it was basically Corypheus and her idiot apocalypse boyfriend makes her feel a lot better.  And now that she knows the whole story, she can really appreciate the irony :P

I love Cass, but my Lavellan also made a bunch of innocent, but nevertheless offensive comments about the Chantry.  Which is why I readily forgave Cass for her comment at the Temple of Mythal; I'd said much worse :P  Lavellan came at the whole mage/templar/Chantry mess from an outsider's perspective, so even though she came to respect the idea of faith, she didn't understand why you wouldn't tear the whole mess down and start all over.

I actually had to tone down a lot of what was said because I thought Kes was being too cruel to Alistair (and I was getting embrassed for him).

Well, to me, the outsider's perspective made her lean in favor of yes, kind of tearing it down and starting over, but also very pro-mage because it was an issue about rights, oppression, and ultimately, freedom, which are values someone Dalish could readily identify with. Even though she wasn't a mage and was at least moderately elfy (even though she was trained/skilled enough to be in human company in a bit of a diplomatic way).

I wound up with softened Leliana as Divine so you can just about see how this all played out in practice. :P

Leaving this here:

Imagine Solas sleeping so soundly next to his lover that when Lavellan wakes up, they cannot feel their arm, and with a fond smile they look over at Solas, who has rolled over onto Lavellan’s outstretched arm as he snoozes away. It’s numb, and Lavellan carefully pulls the arm out from under him so feeling returns in electrifying tingles. They give Solas one more look before returning to their own slumber, snuggling up to him.

Years later, Lavellan wakes up groggily, and immediately they think ‘I can’t feel my arm’, and that fond smile returns. Lavellan turns to see Solas once more, only he’s not there, and feeling does not return.

hello thread. I started my masters today and already have forty pages of early twentieth century german philosophy to read for tomorrow ;__; suffice to say activity is on the dowwwwn.

Also interesting to know I'm not the only person who has thought about how their Warden reacted to DA2.

My Surana actually followed a similar trajectory to Anders - she was much more canny about it though, outwitting and out-manouevering people (including selling out Jowan, which she regrets) in order to get her freedom through the Wardens. Like Anders, when the opportunity presented itself, she was simply glad to be free and primarily was self-interested, focussed on her continued survival, not even considering that she could help other mages. It's only as time goes on and she spends longer outside of the circle she becomes much more outspoken, turns into a hardline anti-circle libertarian. Out of the DA:A squad, Justice was perhaps the character she was closest to - he helped continue this line of thought, strengthened her convictions, inspired her to do better. I headcanon that she remained (secretly) in touch with Anders after he left, likely providing resources and links to the Mage Underground, using cleared deeproads tunnels to their advantage, and was one of the reasons such a prominent apostate managed to survive in Kirkwall so long - her political influence and her ability to cover tracks was useful. Likely she was part of a whole network of mage-freedom contacts all along the Waking Sea.

Eventually the Wardens figured out she was playing politics a bit too... controversially, for their liking (Wardens play politics all the ****** time despite their supposed 'neutrality', it's how they've secured power in most nations, it's just usually they run with the tide instead of against it). They couldn't strip her of all titles or kick her out because of her prominence, so they basically exiled her to some nowhere-outpost and gave her an impossible task - finding the cure for the calling - as a punishment, which allowed her freedom to work without irritating too many nobles.

The Chantry explosion at Kirkwall happened not too long afterwards. In that canon, my Hawke's pro-templar and Anders is killed on the spot. She was absolutely devastated by it. She was unable to support two of her closest friends when they were at their literal worst, and were executed in cold blood for their mistakes which she believed she could have prevented (she probably wouldn't have been able to stop them, but she 100% believes she could, after all, she's saved the world once already).

If I ever get around to writing the fic where she ends up becoming the Inquisitor, it'll be a whole barrel of laughs, honest. no drama or unresolved issues here. whatsoever.

yeah the hahren/da'len thing is so not my jam

neither is dom solas

neither is ancient slave owning solas

[makes no.jpg face]  :D  :P

yeah, I'm so so so so glad that trespasser hinted that he probably wasn't originally part of the nobility or slave-owning class, and Fen'Harel was likely never formally considered part of the pantheon. or hahren/da'len. or, really, just any power play with dom Solas where it's not absolutely crystal clear that this is a staged roleplay that is restricted to their bedroom, 100% consensual, which they've already discussed and negotiated beforehand in depth.

won't say no to a bit of dom Lavellan though

If we are talking about fanfic...

Spoiler

Edit: I'm talking about Feynite's works and Crystal White in the spoilers section.

Yeah, I couldn't read Crystal White for that reason :(

I love fanfiction, but it's a little disappointing how after much the writers went out of their way to stress that Fen'Harel in the flesh is a quiet dorky elf with strong moral principles who denies his divinity, rather than the feared trickster god of legend, people seem to write him as the latter more than the former.

I guess I wasn't phased by how he looked in early concepts/screens cause like, if the concept of a character intrigues me, sign me right up. Also after romancing a space dinosaur alien bird lizard man.. a guy with MANDIBLES and A BEAK-LIKE MOUTH and a WASPY THORAX and external CARAPACE.. yeah I'm okay with some bald weird lookin elf lmfao. I just don't really care.

Mass Effect actually made me reconsider most of my sexual preferences and criteria in partner given that I was pretty happy to bang a space lizard because his voice was hot.

Solas is relatively normal when I think about it in that context.

The trickster god is a powerful archetype, so I'm not surprised that it turns up as often as it does. I think some love for Tom Hiddleston's Loki is also getting projected onto Solas. Tragic Byronic bad boy and all that :P
