I'm a city person. I generally keep my shoes on most days but sometimes I'll go for slippers. I'm not that elfy. :P

Blegh. I spent the summer in a city, the ground outside was too gross to walk out barefoot. It sucked!

My feet want freeeedoooom!!!

As soon as I hit the door the shoes come off. and if it's winter it's a pair of fuzzy socks.

So I have a bit of a writers dilemma. If you woke up and found yourself in Thedas would you tell anyone you were from another world or keep it a secret? I'm trying to figure out which direction I want to take my character.

I love boots so much, but they have to be sturdy and comfy. After four ankle sprains in recent years (including a probable fracture) my heels days are likely over for good. I try even the comfiest pair I own, and I'm so wobbly.

A character I think, if a stranger to the world, would probably try feeling things out first before admitting such things to anyone. Especially because many might not believe the person or believe it's some sort of delusion.

I think a reasonable reaction to waking up in another world is to assume you're dreaming. The first people you meet you'll probably be acting crazy like "this is not real, this can't be real!". I'd expect denial before they wisen up and realize they're probably going to get locked up if they keep acting psycho.

Mmm.....good question.

I think i would keep it to myself in the beginning at least. If I found the people I was dealing with to be sane and decent than I would tell some, but I don't think I would tell everyone I met. Mostly because you don't know who is going to think you're a real nut case or wahtever.

It's probably the same for the Dalish as for us. If you aren't accustomed to wearing them as a child you might never. I feel a sense of dislocation from my environment when my soles aren't actually touching the ground. Also, your feet can become accustomed to all kinds of weather. My mother used to walk barefoot in the Arizona desert in the summer with never a problem. It is possible to go barefoot in extreme conditions if you take care. Ancient Irish Fenian tales recount that they had to be able to run and pluck a thorn from their foot without breaking stride. So yeah, it's not implausible, I don't think.

Yeah definitely! In the winter I'll go out barefoot to get mail and to walk around the house doing little things. The snow just doesn't effect me as much as it does other people because I'm used to it. I see barefoot prints in the fresh snow all the time from my little siblings, putting socks and boots on is just too much trouble for them.

I think there are few better feelings than warm, soft grass under your feet.

 I'm out of likes

Solas wants to know how Lavellan is doing!

If I had to pick an elf to follow in their footsteps I'd definitely pick Legolas though. I want to walk on top of the snow!

So, it's October 6 now, and I'll be going to the video game store in a few hours to check if they have already have the Game of the Year Edition of DAI. (So I could finally play The Descent and Trespasser.) So excite! :D

Art post.

I love this artwork of Solas. Love how the artist draws his eyes and lips. (Especially the lips!  )

Gorgeous artwork of a Fen'Harel mural by swevenfox.

Solas by deedylovescake.

Solas done for Inktober.

Another Solas for Inktober.

Kid!Solas. :D

Trespasser: Solavellan. (NSFW-ish for a bit of nudity)

Post-Trespasser: Solavellan happy ending.. (NSFW for nudity)

Now this is something. Solas x Cadash. (Kinda cute actually.)

I have this image of Solas calling upon all of the elves in a great council to parcel out all of the tasks needed to rip down the Veil again.

As he's talking about how the mortal world is going to die, Elrond's just in the background with his patented judgmental old elf frown.

EDIT: Rise, my last generation brothers and sisters! Rise and claim your birthright!

Yay CapricornSun! I hope they have it for you! Also out of likes but thanks for the art drop! <3

That snobby Solas, who does he remind me of? I'm having some strong connection to another character (not from DA), but I can't place who.

Kid Solas is adorable! He looks sickly though :(

That Cadash is really pretty!

Thank you for the comments! That is pretty much my current thought process. i had originally written that she said something that pretty much forced her to spill, but had written it the other way I just hadn't decided which I liked better. I have to edit later chapters, but at least nothing that's already published.

Ya know it was a lot less scary sharing my story when no one was following it! Now I'm worried about screwing it up!

That's really interesting. Is it just the power imbalance you are worried about that makes you feel that way, or is there more to it than that? I get that he can be condescending at times, but I have always taken that as just who he is personality-wise, not necessarily the result of being a Deity/Evanuris (Your Term Of Choice Here).

Well, like I said, for most of the game I took it as 'who he is' too - it was an aspect of his character that made him more human, even endearing at times. But post-reveal, all those moments, and so many other of your interactions, are thrown into a potentially very different light. If all his 'quirks' are the result of him being someone who sees himself as actually superior to the inquisitor and all her kind - then suddenly he's much less relatable. Less relatable to the player, to the inquisitor, to everyone.

All these questions appear: does he see the inquisitor and her people as people? Pawns? Children? Animals? How much easier is it to lie and mislead people who you don't see as equals, in order to further your goals? To decide that you know what's best for them, regardless of their feelings? Would you ever take their opinions seriously, allow them to change your mind, divert you from your world-destroying plans??

And of course, for a romanced Lavellan - did he start the relationship always intending it to end? Is the inquisitor a real person to him, or  was she only ever going to be a comforting diversion from his long-term schedule of cosmic doom and gloom? There's a hopeful bit of me that thinks he wanted to find a deeply personal connection to the new world, a good reason not to destroy it. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it worked...

I keep thinking of that line where he says to the inquisitor, "I want you to know what we had was was real." My response to that is that well, it was real for one person, because only one of them knew what was actually happening.

The end of DAI left me with all the above questions, just churning angrily. Going back and replaying some of the conversations seemed to assuage some fears ... to a point. And I have to say, our interactions with Solas in Trespasser are mostly the opposite of reassuring.

Okay, totally random.......

....is it just me, or does anyone else find the line by Blackwall "Maker's balls!" when you find him absolutely hysterical? Like, I double over everytime I hear this.

He does admit he didn't see them as people at first but Lavellan changed his views, but I agree with a lot of what you had to say.

He must of known from the beginning how horribly the relationship would end and how much worst it would make his predicament, but he chooses to go into it regardless.

I find it funny the Divine's Right Hand doesn't say anything about it or get upset. I get yelled at for saying "The Lord's name in vain" by my mother, so it's weird that no one ever says anything about Maker's balls or any of the other little curses they let out!

If we consider the idea that Solas was willing to give it up and let it go right up until he chickened out, then I don't think he saw it only as a comforting diversion. The way I take it was that he could just cut loose and be himself and forget about all of that when with Lavellan, and that's why it was so easy for him to fall so fast. He wanted to believe it could be real, and could be forever, and almost convinced himself that it was right up until he just... couldn't.

I completely agree. Especially how he said after the first kiss that there are 'considerations'. He isn't willing to commit to anything until you show consideration by helping his friend, and I think his expression during that mission is very telling. Part surprise and gratitude, and it really changes how he sees her. Which then leads to his question about her spirit. No one else is real to him so something must be off about her because she /is/ real to him now. So he scrambles to find an excuse why otherwise he'll have to admit that everyone else is, too.

And he just gets swept away at that point and it's beautiful and heartbreaking when the weight crashes back down.

I like to think now, him telling her she's free...it took him a moment to remember that his people aren't and what it means to keep that promise to them.

His utter anguish in that scene seals his love to me. She's something else that his past will take away from him.

Hmmm, I'm listening to some of Origins soundtrack again... was anyone else a teensy bit disappointed by the change in tone that the Origins and DA2 vs Inquisition has? I'm not denying Inquisition's soundtrack is awesome, just sooo different (I know different composers).

And why is the Inquisition love song and the Dread Wolf song so similar!? Is it mocking me!?

All the better to crush our hearts into pulp each time we hear either? :crying:

I really missed certain elements of Inon Zur's style. His combat music had some fantastic rhythms, and there's this darker, clashing, element that I'd come to strongly associate with DA. And of course his opening themes for the first two games still put a lump in my throat right away.

I've learned to love Inquisition's soundtrack, though it took me a while. I may be one of the few who doesn't like the main theme at all, but there's plenty of magic in there. I really love the Western Approach music and this one theme that plays in the Emerald Graves, like a cool breeze...

I'm not a huge fan of the main theme either, but that's because I can't help but compare it to Origin's main theme.

"darker, clashing, element" that describes it perfectly!

It made me go well eff you Solas! My Lavellan was a person before your a-holiness even acknowledge her as such! There are moments when I feel such a disconnect with Lavellan.

After Solas admits his plans Lavellan feels

Heartbroken, hurt, betrayed, anguished, pained, other words that sound better than sad, guilty, used, and a little resentful (she hasn't had time to process anything yet).

After Solas reveals his plans I feel

"WHAT THE EFFING HECK SOLAS!? YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS CALLOUS! IF YOU LOVE LAVELLAN LOVE HEEERR. I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW! STUPID BALD ELF I'M GOING TO MURDER YOU!!!!"

So lots of anger

And then Lavellan says "love conquers all *.*!" Lavellan is an optimistic little unicorn, I am not.

He wanted to believe it could be real, and could be forever, and almost convinced himself that it was right up until he just... couldn't.

Did he want to believe it could be forever? I don't know. During the balcony scene, he says that "it would kinder, in the long run" (to walk away). So at that point at least, it doesn't sound like he's counting on a future for them. I'm also not sure that I believe that it would be that easy for Solas to throw himself into an involvement unless he's already decided in advance on the outcome - ironically, the more reckless he's willing to be emotionally, the more I see it as a sign that he's already accepted that it will end when the time comes. He himself says it was a selfish decision for him to start something with her.

I certainly believe that his feelings have deepened further by the end of the game. However I've also read that in the breakup scene he is supposedly ready to give it all up to be with her, and I don't see evidence for that myself. Right before that scene, he asks you (paraphrasing) what you would do if your efforts to help the world just kept making things worse. I picked the line "you take a breath, figure out what went wrong, and keep trying." And that response seemed to make him very happy. If anything, it seems like we encouraged him to keep on with his mission. I haven't tried the other responses, though. I suppose they could give the scene that follows a different tone, depending.
