I actually don't usually have problems like this until January.  Not sure why January but that's usually when.  Going to go pout in a corner for awhile.  I'm a terrible person when I'm sick.

Guys, I'd love some opinions in regards to a Solavellan fic centered after Trespasser with a Lavellan who's clan was killed, broke up the Inquisition, and is considering visiting Duke Antoine in Wycome on the way to Tevinter for a bit of revenge.

 

Despite how my girl's clan wasn't killed and she's kept the Inqusition, I'll be going with her playstyle of doing as little killing as possible; particularly one where she stopped Solas from killing the mages in his personal quest. I'm aiming to get that Fade-kiss 2.0 that we talked about a couple of hundred pages back a go, so I'm thinking about a Fade-dream confrontation where he stops her from killing him, but I don't know how I'm going to go about that yet.

 

Any tips? Any preference for a sort of blank slate-ish Lavellan for inserts, or would the set up I'm going for be too personalised? Also, I think don't know if this is an original idea or not, so has anyone heard of one similar? (I like writing fics but I don't upload, so I don't know how original my ideas are. xD)

I can see why people get tetchy about tags now. All I do is follow Dragon Age and Solas blogs, not even that many, and I still get to see real life strangulation porn on my dashboard. Wonderful! I mean it was even tagged with Dragon Age even though I saw buggery all to do with DA in it!

Disclaimer: I don't care what anyone's fetish is, no judgement on my half, I just don't know why I'm seeing it on my dashboard. xD

 

Haven't read anything like this, only about Lavellan heading off to save her clan, and I'm intrigued. I can see both default and personalized Lavellan working with this idea. It depends on how much narrative distance you're planning to use I guess. It would be hard to keep Lavellan a blank-slate if you're privy to her every thought, but if you aren't going to write from her head then it'll be easier to keep her personality general. Depends on what you're comfortable with, really, and how you're going to frame it. Personal recommendation is you use this revenge quest against the Duke to parallel her own quest regarding Solas, whether you want to redeem him or not. Makes him showing up in her dreams later much smoother, and it'll just tighten the whole structure of the story better.

I remember a while ago a post, I think on the DA subreddit, something like DAI as tabloid headlines, and I wrote something similar to your last line there. Which people enjoyed.

 

I loved that island, the peace of it, the really lovely scenery. I've seen some screens of the Crossroads as seen by non-elven Inquisitors and it's kind of barren and not as colorful but only of an area or two. Of course I don't have any non-Lavellans yet, so I can't check myself.

 

Sinus stuff is so awful. I hope you feel better. I'm  waiting for my antihistamine to kick in because I've had a horrible morning battle with allergies and losing, so I gave in and took something.

I don't go to Reddit that much anymore but after DAI I was there for a bit. I migrated over here, mostly.

 

I have the weirdest immune system. I can go a year or two without getting a cold sometimes, but as I've gotten older I've been dealing with worsening allergies, (and I'm also allergic to most metals, and exercise).  Finally starting to feel better though.

Er... I took it as entirely opposite. "Moving things forward" is to well... move forwards and try to make THIS world better (even Solas's comment about 'you offer hope that someday things will get better!' is sort of confirming that), while "restoring hat it was" is for... well.. restoring the past, which is what he's actively trying to do in Trespasser.

 

 

 

Anyway - different thing now: remember how we all talked about how Inquisition took less then a year, since it started in 9:41 and ended in 9:42?

 

Well... we got the year, but never really got the precise date of the Conclave or Cory defeat, did we?

 

Then the campaign could take anything from 2-3 months (if Conclave was at the end of '41 and Cory was defeated at the beginning of '42) to almost 2 years (if the Conclave was at the start of '41 and Cory was defeated at the end of '42).

 

So there's a lot of wiggle room here: I take it that I can headcanon that, say, 'non-completionist' can take about 6-8 months of in-story time and 'completionist' ones taking anywhere from 15 to 22 months

 

I'd take that. Anything to make the time frame more reasonable. Headcanon accepted.

Today, in lore musings, I present to you, WTF Qunari!

Now, there's been plenty of speculation as to the origins of the Qunari already, so it's possible I won't be adding much to it, but something about them bother me. Some brought forth the theory that they were created by Ghilan'nain. possibly, but then, why is it that Corypheus would know enough about them to call out to an Adaar Inquisitor "The Qunari are not a race, they're a mistake". As far as we know, Corypheus has no special knowledge of old elvhenan. What he knows is what his people knew at the time he was alive. He's not a telepath and he's not omniscient. After all, he doesn't recognize Solas for even an ancient elvhen, much less the Dread Wolf.

 

Now, going back to the wiki article on the Qunari, I saw this : The Kossith, ancestors to the Qunari before the Qun was a thing were for the first time seen in Thedas when they had a small enclave in the Korcari Wild around -410 Ancient (and were not seen again for a thousand years after that). According to the chant, the Magister would have entered the Black City in -395 Ancient, which is also the year the first Blight started. Accordingly, Corypheus woul have been alive in -410 Ancient, but how would he know of one small enclave so far south of Tevinter and in the Wilds? I admit, it's not completely impossible he would know, but would he truly know enough about them to then call Adaar "a mistake"?

 

Here comes my theory (fun!). What if the Qunari (or Kossith as they were originally called) are an even younger race than we've been led to believe? If not the old elvhen, who could have created a race? Well, the Tevinter might have had had both the knowledge and the power. Around -410 Ancient, it's far from impossible that the 7 magisters, priests of the Old god, had already started planning how to enter the Fade. Now, elves make the best sacrifices, but what it they'd tried to come up with something even better, by... let's say, combining elvish blood to dragon blood, which we already know is quite potent. But, the result didn't please them for some reason. The new race was powerful, hard to control and didn't actually make for better sacrifice. Perhaps some of them even escaped their captors (that enclave in the Korcari wild). Perhaps some even manage to flee further, across the sea, or they were banished there when they became too hard to control (although I lean toward fleeing since I don't see why the magisters wouldn't simply kill their mistakes instead of banishing them). That would explain why Corypheus know so much about a race he would never have met before (and might never have heard about before, even if he somehow got it mentioned to him that Kossith had appeared in the Korcari wilds. Why make the link between those and the current Qunari, unless he somehow knows more?)

 

This would also explains the Qunari's fear and distrust of mages, even if most don't remember the reasons anymore. Having been created specifically to be blood sacrifices would make you wary of magic, that's for sure.

 

Now, if the Kossith/Qunari are a tevene "invention" I'm left with the question : Who are the scaled ones mentionned in the Deep Roads? And who are the dragonny-looking creatures depicted in elvhen murals? Could they be the same. Another race we know nothing about. Or perhaps extinct. Or perhaps I'm overthinking Corypheus' comment.

Mine wouldn't even think of getting into a new relationship. She's much too busy for one, and then she could never be completely there emotionally. Not when she still loves Solas with all her heart and is trying so hard to save him. It wouldn't be fair to whoever. And she's not one for casual sex.

Right, mine either. She still loves Solas and that much is quite clear. I've described it this way before, but in between the end of DAI and Trespasser, she healed some, she had an initial period of feeling pretty sad and not sleeping that well, but then she healed and tossed herself into work and saw her family and did other things. But there was still some part of her that still had those feelings. And in Trespasser, it was like a bandage getting ripped off a half-healed wound. Maybe one that felt more healed than it actually was.

Mine is fine with casual sex, but not really in the mood after Trespasser . She's emotionally compromised, and she knows better than to go playing with fire.

As a player I've invested so much in Solavellan that I need to see it through to the bitter end. But sometimes I can't help but think that my Lavellan's life would have been easier and happier if she'd moved on. Oh well...I crave the drama!

I don't know why, but for some reason, I never figured Fenris would be actually mad at Quizzie for it. I have part of a conversation figured out between them that I'll add to my current fic at some point, that goes soemthing like this :

Fenris gives her one of his broody stare : I do not blame you. I was never Hawke's keeper, and I do not expect anyone else to be. Our lives were dangerous ones. She knew I could die and I knew she could die at any point.

 

He hurts, but I think he realizes that the Inquisitor couldn't have stopped Hawke if Hawke had decided to do something (even if that seomthing got her killed). He knows Hawke too well, and he's also done his share of missions that could have ended up with him dying while going after slavers.

There is no doubt in my mind, none at all, that we will -in some form- be able to continue to play our Inquisitor. First of all, like I said yesterday in the spoiler thread- can you imagine the straight PRESS BW would get for having a disabled PC? With prosthetics??? Who can do basically everything that someone who isn't disabled can do? My Lavellan was sort of nonchalant about losing the arm, so no big deal. She'll get Dagna to make her an awesome arm and she can still shoot her bow no prob. I think it would be awesome if you could CHOOSE to be EITHER your PC from Inquisition or you could choose to be someone new, maybe someone hired by your Inquisitor. I know what the devs SAID. Awhile ago. But I can't believe they set this up like this to have a totally new PC without any involvement from your Inky. No way no how. Nope nope nope.

 

And what's more, is I think they will announce it sooner, rather than later, and there's no way it's gonna take another four years. I get that they have Andromeda coming out (which some people have moved to, for sure) and they have secret new IP, (which I'm going to pretend is DA 3.5 and they're just keeping it really secret and then they'll drop it like Beyonce), but as soon as the writers have finished main work, some who want can come back to Dragon Age, right? And we have no idea how long they have been working on new IP, just that some writers have recently gone over to keep themselves in a paycheck- but whatever. I'm holding to hope 2 + years, maybe, and they'll announce it long before. They practically already announced it at the end of DA. And Leli, Cassandra, Dagna- all seem to know what INky is up to- it was such a throw back to the first inquisition scene and now I'm really just rambling but I don't care I'm so full of all the feelings today.

Let us hope so at least (Not feeling optimistic.)

I was thinking whether to have another cup or make tea. I usually have one or two cups of coffee or tea a day and switch off between caffeinated things so it's not as bad. I've gone through caffeine withdrawals before. It feels like a really, really exhausting cold for about a week.

I don't drink coffee unless I think I need it (and I tend to drown it in milk and sugar ;P); as for tea... well, there's a reason I've stuck with this nickname ;D

 

With that said, while I sometimes feel too um... nervous, after strong coffee on stressful day or so, I think I drink enough tea to get used to small doses of caffeine (people may not know this, but after some time our bodies just adjust to it), so my reaction to coffee usually isn't strong.
