I'll just leave this here.

From here (There is a download link. <3 )

Ohgod! I just discovered this one too:

From here

*slinks back into the shadows*

OK, so it's not just me projecting.  His voice pitches lower in his Trespasser dialogue, and when he's trying to intimidate someone (like his dialogue with Mhiris.)  It is also damn sexy.

Where is the second soundfile from?  Is it an early version of his breakup dialogue?  He sounds so distressed! :(

I just don't see enough evidence for a direct correlation between the construction of the veil and stopping the Blight... **shrugs shoulders**

Although I believe that it would be exceptionally cool for Arlathan=Black City, I think the canon lore that we have, unfortunately contradicts that. According to the timeline in WOT, the quickening (caused by construction of the Veil) was first noticed in -2850 Ancient. The fall of Arlathan occured almost 2000 years later, in -975 Ancient.

I plan to reply further in a bit...

What if Arlathan was like the Vir Dirthara, parts of it existed in a pocket dimension or floated in the sky. Arlathan may have been partially destroyed or moved into the Fade when the Veil went up, that doesn't mean the survivors didn't rebuild in the ruins in those two thousand years after they became mortal.

Edit to add: The Veil primarily was created to contain to restrain the Evanuris. The Evanuris, it has been heavily suggested, were using blight magic and threatening to unleash it on the world. Abelas said that Arlathan was already a desiccated corpse by the time the Tevinters rolled in, already long diminshed. Whatever they destroyed may not have been all of Arlathan.

You should hear him in Descent. Very deep like Trespasser too and recently there is new dialogue when you get 4 power to go to VR and he tells you to go and his voice is much deeper too.

The "fall of Arlathan" as reported in WOT is (I would think) the moment Tevinter invaded and enslaved the elves. But we know now that the Empire had fallen before then, most probably after the veil was rised and the elves were cut form the Fade and part of their Empire. Teviner only got the crumbs of a once powerful Empire and now much diminished. The city of Arlathan by then might not even have existed anymore, even if Elvhenan itself became synonymous with Arlanthan later on.

That's what I was thinking.  Arlathan would have been one of the many wonders "made of world and Fade" that was ruined when the Veil went up.  The part that was in the Fade was now there permanently, and the part in the world was there permanently, but they were sundered and no longer one place.  The part left behind in the physical world could still have been inhabited and then later finished off completely (either by internal strife among the survivors of the fall, or by the Tevinters).

Or, the Golden City could have been a fade-reflection/construct of Arlathan at it's peak...but it would also preclude the veil/the Blight turning it black at or by the time of it's construction...I think...???

Yeah, same.  He sounds really freaked out and not particularly Solas-y.  The sad resignation fits him better.

Cole mentions the broken pieces of the City floating around you remembered being higher before it woke up and they fell. That reminds me of the Shattered Library which also looks like the Fade.

Agreed.  This is the guy who held his cool when he had red lyrium growing out of him in the bad future.  Who calmly told you he was dying, but no matter.  If I ever hear Solas genuinely freak out (and not just irritated or upset), I'm going to panic right then and there.  Because it means we are well and truly f***ed.

Gareth David-Lloyd might have recorded all of those lines at once.  Mostly the Trespasser ones, so that character tone sort of dominated.

Teehee.  Dominated :P

I had human Cole in my playthrough so I did miss some of his comments. I wonder what he means by "it" woke up. That doesn't sound like it has to do with the Veil at all.

I think so too. They said Trespasser was being made during JOH.

This is before Cole's personal quest. When you fall into the Fade at Adamant. When you head to where the graves are, you are walking below floating pieces of the Black City in hand's reach. They have an eerie green glow that match the City above you.

Oooh.  I've never heard that bit from Cole.  Where does he say that?

Edit, sorry, ninja'd!

I've never taken Cole to Adamant.  I just can't bring myself to do it.  He always thanks me for not making him go.

Oh Solas, *sits in the feels corner again*

*joins you in the feels corner* I'm bringing the tiny optimism flag you gave me after Tresspasser :) Also some cookies without raisins.

Agree. I have this stoic image of Solas in my head, I like it that emotion with him is rather subtle and it builds up over time.

Just take Cole to Adamant and when you are heading toward the graveyard in the Fade, he will comment on the floating pieces of the City. I always do the 2 side quests in the Fade so I hear a lot of banter.

I feel like whatever is in the Fade is more substantial than a reflection, but that's just me.

I have to wonder about whether the lack of Solas talking about the Blight/the taint in regards to the Evanuris/the ancient elves, or there being more clues might just be story segregation. As in, they wanted to save those plot beats for a future game, so they left a few breadcrumbs, but not enough to spoil anything for the next couple of games where the Darkspawn/the Taint/Red Lyrium/possible Darkspawn Evanuris would all feature as a main plot.

The dialogue we have fits more the flow of the scene as well. This thing, while more 'raw' and I suppose more realistic, is a tad too frantic when we consider the pacing of the scene itself.

It also revealed too much that he had an ulterior motive and makes the ending less shocking if we suspected his involvement based on his reaction.

Frantic is a good word for the dialogue, including Lavellan's lines. I like the angry options in-game better than the one here.

Also, I forgot to mention a correction to the timeline in WOT in the "Errata" section of WOT2, whereas the timeline in WOT stated that the Old Gods started whispering from the Black City in -2800 Ancient. The corrected text verifies that it was still the untainted Golden City "as it had not yet been sullied by the presence of men."

Edit: This confirms for me that the Veil was constructed many years before the Blight reached the Golden City, thus making a dual-purpose scenario unlikely.

I'm reading through the in-game character descriptions from the tumblr that provided the feelsy audio files, and some of them are f***ing amazing.

Storvacker's accent: Grizzly or Northern Brown

Speech pattern for the Nug King: SQUEAK
