Yep, definitely prefer Alix for Lavellan after watching some of that. Sumalee Montano's delivery on some of the lines is a bit flat. Like the "Var lath vir suledin".

 

I definitely agree. Sumalee's voice is very powerful, and I think it works well for aggressive and leadership dialogue. But Alix just has a much better range with emotion (IMO), and you can really feel it coming through.

 

Have to chime in here. I had Sumalee voice my Lavellan, and I thought she did an amazing job emotionally. It's probably because I picked the teary-eyed "Yes, ironically." option when replying to Solas's May the Dread Wolf take you quip, but then Sumalee's voice started getting reeeeeally emotional for the rest of the conversation, and sometimes it would even crack and I would be all MY BABY. DON'T CRY OR I'M GOING TO START CRYING TOO BE STRONG FOR MEEEEE. And at the end, when I had Lavellan disband the Inquisition with the red fist option, the delivery was so, god it was so, perfect. Just, perfect. So damn satisfying and amazing.

That is indeed very tame fandom drama. But even though I headcanon the relationship as sexual, I have honestly never wondered/thought about or felt like anything was missing in this regard.   Though I am definitely not the smut audience.

I'm glad he had a chance to think before he spoke then XD if he had done that to my Lavellan I would of flipped!

The part about Briala actually makes me angry.

 

I gave her Gaspard's throne because I wanted to help her help elves, and the in-game files themselves say that she's so blinded by anger that she'll probably do "may hurt more than she helps," and that she wants to grab power "for herself and for her people... or at least for herself." Suddenly, I feel both vindicated that my guess that Sera's line "I wonder how long before she forgets about her 'poor elves'" was subtle foreshadowing from the devs that Briala won't actually help the elves in the long run.

 

The devs are just determined to make sure nothing ever improves for elves, aren't they? No one in-universe cares about their plight except Solas and Briala, and now it's confirmed that they're both just going to do more harm than good. Solas wants to bring about the end of the world as we know it to raise up the elves, and Briala is just so blinded by anger that she'll probably hurt more than she helps if she doesn't dump them by the wayside to grab power. And of course the player character has to either try to stop them (we HAVE to try to stop Solas) or let them blindly stumble down a terrible path (Briala for the throne), but can't take the initiative to do something productive to help them.

 

I was already having a bad day, and this just made it worse. I can't even dissolve into a fantasy world and have things go well.

It makes me angry too because it goes against everything we learnt about Bria from TME and renders the entire book pretty much pointless.  That is the woman Felassan died for?  The one he compared to his friend from the days when he was just Solas and idealistic?
