It's too quiet..

 

Soo.. has anyone thought of playing with ONLY Solas in their party for maximum environment dialogue opportunities (and RP)? On casual probably, to make it possible.

Can't say that I have.......but how depressing would that be to think about.....

 

.....Poor Lavellan spending literally the entire journey of Inquisition with only Solas only to have him leave after Cory fight and then she has to deal with everything afterwards without him.

 

Talk about abandonment issues.

The thread is so quiet this morning. Where is everyone?

 

I is building AO3 collection for now. I hate forms  . But it shall be done.

 

And wow I was a mess last night, thanks for hearing me out instead of kicking me out  . And for sharing your own experiences. They really calmed my anxiety down, felt like I was in a confession room (the good kind!), and I ended up feeling all mushy inside. You guys are the best. And I'm really really grateful

 

And since you've been so willing to share personal things, it's just fair that I be too so, about me and writing in the spoiler tags.

Truth is, I'm taking up a BA in Creative Writing right now. Writing's pretty much become my life, which is why this slump is really depressing me. It's been going on for a while now see. I should have graduated two years ago, but I still haven't because my thesis still isn't done. That's literally the only thing keeping me from my diploma, and I still can't finish it. Probably because I decided to write a novel, which I've never tried before, and now that decision's tripping me up. I've lost my chance to graduate with honors, and it's really awkward at family reunions now, when people keep asking where I'm working and I have to keep on repeating I still haven't finished my thesis yet, so just part time jobs for now, and I can just tell my parents are getting really frustrated with me, and I'm getting really frustrated with myself. Fanfic was supposed to be a break, a place to write without any pressure, no advisers or parents or concerned friends breathing down my neck. Though now there suddenly is pressure, because it turns out people actually like what I've written. So now I'm pushing myself to be better. Which is good. I do want to be better. But sometimes it's like improvement's the only thing I'm working on anymore, perfectionism, instead of just enjoying the story. And I'm not making much progress with my thesis either, still, and the semester's ending in two months. So. There. Not feeling very good right now.

eh I'm always writing (like flabbadence it's what I'm aspiring to do professionally). I guess more people are writingng solas fics right now, rather than short stories or other stuff (what I usually right). tons of the people here are writers already

After today, I've committed myself to giving more, and more specific, comments and feedback on anything I read. If I read it, I impose on myself to comment on it. But it would be great if others commit to this as well, since there's a range of writers around here with different styles, experience, etc. 

 

If you don't know what to say, here's a handy prompt:

 

1. What was your favorite line? Why? How did it make you feel, did it evoke tears, laughter, anger, anything else?

 

2. Do you think any particular character is very well-done?

 

3. What would you like to know more about? 

 

4. Was there some line, word, description that somehow brought you out of immersion for a particular character? Can you come up with a better alternative?

 

5. How's the pacing? Is the story going too fast? Too slow? Just right?

 

6. Any comments about the writer's style? Is it poetic, easy-going, dramatic?

 

This is just something to get people started. Feel free to add or remove things from the list.

 

So let's try an experiment: Next time you post a fic, add a note at the end that you welcome feedback, and paste these question prompts (or the edited version of them). See if this helps us give and receive more feedback within our little community.

So I'm playing through Descent again.  And getting all of the gears .. again.  Like I get all of the shards every time I play.  Why, yes I *am* OCD about that kind of thing, what makes you ask?

 

Anyway, reading the messages when you open the doors ... apparently the Deep Roads or at least part of the Deep Roads are built to form a giant sigil?  Rather like Kirkwall's roads were built to form a giant rune of some kind (if you read the Band of Three codex entries).

 

I wonder what their purposes were.

It's the gates of Segrummar. Someone on reddit tried to match them up to Kirkwalls sigil but it could've been anything. No one has really talked about it since that I've found, which is odd because the whole codex is very.. well, strange.

Edit: Guess I could share what I"m doing. I'm trying to finish up the next chapter for my Zevellan adventure before revisiting Mirrors and doing something with that.

 

Otherwise I am heavily contemplating the possibility of walking to Tim Hortons with my daughter and getting some goodness.

Also, *hugs* It's really difficult to be our own worse critics and the self-doubt can be debilitating. I dreamed of writing professionnaly, and I actually do have a few novels self-published with a co-author. And then... I just stopped writing. Sales weren't as good as we hoped even then and the doubts were crippling. I stopped writing almost completely for a year apart from a few fanfics, and I'm only just getting back to it. And I'm still scared and unsure, and I have a horrible time finishing anything I start. So I understand completely. All I can say is, hang on in there. You ARE a good writer, you WILL continue to learn and improve and you CAN do it

My friend is taking her MA in Creative Writing now. This after already completing half a teaching masters program and through a series of things that also included some poor communication on the school's part, she essentially failed their program. Took a year before she found a new program, and now is working on her own novel for her program. Sometimes she and I sit there late at night and chat about the devil that is writer's block. Sometimes she writes fics as a break. Sometimes we talk about TV. Or fashion. I'll send her pretty dresses or fashion disasters. Every award show, she's my red carpet style buddy. We both love colorful makeup. Or life. Things other than what will pressure her.

 

Wanting to improve is great. But letting the pressure get to you from outside sources is definitely not going to help. Fanfic should be a respite to get things going.

 

What things do help you get unstuck. Possible to do more of those things? You've acknowledged perfectionism, which is such a killer of creativity. It's so paralyzing. *hugs* Do you have particular things you can turn to to reduce your anxiety and minimize comparisons?

It's definitely strange. And the gates seems to have been built to disrupt the sigil and the magic it was used for. We've far from discovered all there is to know about the Deep Roads for sure.

 

Hmmmm, could the sigil have been built by the Evanuris as a way to fight against the Titan that lives under it? To force it into sleep perhaps? And now it's disrupted and it's why it can manage to at least stir?
