I have this ginger, spice, and vanilla perfume that I got from our local Renaissance fair, and on the occasions where I wear it, my boyfriend says I smell like a delicious cookie.  Which...I guess is good?

 

What would Lavellan smell like?  Mine spends a lot of her free time at Skyhold in the garden, so she probably smells like garden earth and whatever herbs she's been tending.  But Viv has taught her to take a moment and enjoy some of the perks of being Inquisitor, so occasionally, she comes down to the rotunda smelling of her scented oil bath   And poor Solas can't decide whether to disapprove or bury his nose in her hair.

I suppose Anya smells like... weapon oil? The one she uses to maintain her daggers. Crushed herbs, the fizz of Tempest flasks, and... the summer heat cracking the ground open too?

Yeah...I may have dragged him, Bull, and Cole into the Fallow Mire just after Solas's Fade kiss.  So on top of the endless rain, stinking bog, and dead people tearing at his lovely fine robes, Dorian gets to put up with his bestie suffering the insecure pangs of first love.  And Cole reading her thoughts.  And Bull laughing at how much the three of them suck.

Hmm for Tala, I think she would smell like herbs and wildflowers. (Or food roasting over the firepit, lol.) After becoming Inquisitor, she becomes accustomed to oils and perfumes with the scent of lavender to make her feel relaxed.

I'm still trying to work out a perfume formula. I might try to make 3 or 4 different blends based on different aspects.

I imagine him using a herbal mixture for mental focus, as well as whatever he would use to clean with, so he would smell slightly green and herbal. Something with clary sage, maybe lavender for its cleansing properties. I do see him as someone who would be clean and hygienic most of the time, as drosophilia said earlier.

 

Would he use incense sometime? Notes like vetiver and sandalwood would also suit his intellectual and spiritual side, I think. I remember reading somewhere that sandalwood is used in spiritual rituals.

Dorian: Those filthy corpses are coming out of the water. They are literally rotting in there before they come out to kill us. Watch out, there's one behind you. 

Lavellan: *casually stabs corpse* He used tongue! Using tongue means he's serious, right?

Dorian: The only tongue I can think about is the one that just flew right onto my designer robes. Bull, watch out where you hurl the heads, you savage filth!

Bull: I know where your head will be tonight, vint!

Lavellan: Ewww, Iron Bull! Waaait, guys, do you think he was maybe hoping for...

Dorian: No!

Bull: Boss, relax. Let's just enjoy the killing for now, and when we go back to camp I'll explain to you a few tricks. You will have Solas on his knees, begging, in no time.

I always thought Solas smelled like books and paint.  But maybe that's just because I'm a weirdo who misses the smell of actual, hardcover books.

 

Dorian's the one who hangs out in the library, but let's be honest, he's always perfectly perfumed.  Even in the Fallow Mire, waist-deep in dead people and rotting plants

 

^ oh man, I love the smell of paint. And new, fresh books. I could definitely run with this.

 

I have a really awful sense of smell, so I wish I could do fragrance stuff, but it's sorta lost on me.

Well, I headcanon that when they start their training, clan hunters are given scented oils to wear that helps them blend in with the woods and mask some of their own scents, and thus presence. So she continues to apply her woody oil even as she settles into her new life, because it's a little tradition and reminds her of home. So she smells green, woody, a little earthy, perhaps.

 

I've written this into some of my fics, both as what Nirwen smells like but also Nirwen smelling it on Nehn.

I think my Lavellan would smell like any kind of incense and maybe tea.

 

I checked out the links for those scents based on characters and read Zevran's.

Dark, earthy woods mixed with spicy cinnamon, cloves, fresh rosemary, and clad in tight leather. Tempered with fresh, juicy fig and Tahitian Vanilla with a touch of tonka bean

 

Hot damn, that is like a list of my all time favorite smells.

 

Also, i just heard the worst, most ridiculous metaphor in my entire life and have the need to share it.

 

The Scream TV show is on right now and a character just said "Your boyfriend has you thinking you're top of the food chain like a bobcat, but in reality maybe you're a shark."

Like Sand through the Glass

I finished it in July, so it's terribly non-canon now. I left some things vague hoping that it would somehow stay canon-esque, but I was really into the whole "Solas is a spirit mage" thing so yeah... I'm really keen on getting some pointers/criticism. I am terrible with plot or at least moving the plot along gracefully. Reading Looking Glass has me feeling like a literary louse. I really want to write a novel and have for many, many years. I thought the fanfic would help. It did, but it also didn't. I need to work on balancing art with action. Feynite is doing that so well with Looking Glass; I'm terribly jelly.

And hahaha, Feynite is so amazing I can't even be bitter, just amazed and forever hungry for more. How are they even writing so much at such high quality? I'd have them give me lessons if they're willing. Though there's plenty to learn from just analyzing their stuff. I'd like to point out their descriptions and exposition in particular, and their daring with the plot. I'm just... awed and inspired by everything they've done.

What does my Lavellan smell like?

 

The servants wash the linens with a citrus infused soap. They then place dried lavender sprigs in between the sheets which permeates the fabric during storage.

She keeps her mage robes and leathers in a chest made from cedar wood. She uses hair oil that is infused with jasmine, rose and vanilla, and uses a comb made from sandalwood.

Dorian and Iron Bull informed her about the use of incense to perfume the body and home, so sometimes she burns a bit of dragon's blood resin mixed with myrrh in her quarters.

There are a few old tomes strewn about her room and there is a warm smell of aged pine where the sunlight hits the floorboards. Sometimes she buries her face into the pillow on Solas's side of the bed. It smells of faint pine and plaster, leather, cotton and his natural musk.

And hahaha, Feynite is so amazing I can't even be bitter, just amazed and forever hungry for more. How are they even writing so much at such high quality? I'd have them give me lessons if they're willing. Though there's plenty to learn from just analyzing their stuff. I'd like to point out their descriptions and exposition in particular, and their daring with the plot. I'm just... awed and inspired by everything they've done.

I think he would use it sometimes. All of those herbs are great for mental clarity, focusing and connecting with the spiritual.
