The relationship dynamic is completely different to Twilight. Solas never manipulates you, are rarely lies. Lavellan takes an active, rather than passive, role, and isn't so single-mindedly obsessed with him. The game does not sugar coat Solas' actions and intentions and Lavellan will always stand against him in some way eventually.
I can see why you'd compare the two - superficially, you're dealing with two immortal beings who are skilled, sophisticated, and powerful, who both appear slightly out-of-this-world (and it's revealed it's more like out-of-this-time), who both have previously done a lot of damage, and harbour a lot of self-loathing and guilt about that damage, and who each struggle to deal with their blossoming love for a mortal woman. But those similarities are ultimately pretty superficial ones.

My Lavellan drank. At the time, she didn't quite realize yet that Mythal was still alive (well oops!). Morrigan rubbed her the wrong way something major and there was no way she was letting all that knowledge go to the condescending witch who thought my Lavellan couldn't possibly have the knowledge to use it. Hmph. She really didn't get along with Morrigan lol.

This was about... ten hours of work? I can haul ass if I'm personally interested in something. As I said a while back, the character of Solas gave me some serious emotional shock therapy. When I do work for other people I go really slow. This was for a specific photoshoot, so having a deadline helped!
I have written some fics too-- One is the DAI story canon, but with drastic focus on Solas/Lavellan and the rest being important background. The end of that story (between end of DAI and Trespasser) diverts way from canon though-- Lavellan finds out she is pregnant after Solas takes off, and thinks it is just bad luck-- ends up this is more intentional than she would have ever thought, as Mythal now needs a body... and Solas is loyal to Mythal above all else. I know. Kind weird. But if you have any interest, you can read it here or the bigger story that is part of here.

So... weird (not weird?) question, since you're experienced with it... is it safe to play the game normally with all that running in the background (not just for taking pretty pictures)?? No weirdness happens?

Yeah, my Lavellan ended up drinking from the well for the same reasons. I was actually really torn about what to do, because I am worried about the ramifications drinking from the well will have in DA4.
I mean, if for some reason the only way to get a "happy"..happy-ish? ending with Solas in DA4 is by not drinking from the well I can always change my choice in the DA Keep. The first time I played Britta's game she didn't drink from the well so it wouldn't be cheating at all *tentative laugh*

I hope it's not dependent on only one decision. In fact, I hope the ending for Solas is like the genophage cure from ME3. A bunch of different ways it can suss out, and some are definitely better or worse than others, but they all follow from several different decisions that you've made over the course of playing the Inquisitor.
EDIT: And I don't know if I could go back and change my Keep choice on the Well. I love my Lavellan, and I love Solas, but it's such a critical moment for her character development, turning down the Well.

It may have been a poor decision on his part, what with the whole elf god thing and not telling anyone, but it doesn't bother me since once you do know you have the option of breaking up with him or continuing the romance. Which means that however you shake it, Lavellan can now make a wholehearted decision depending on who she is as a character and what she wants. Destruction of the known world notwithstanding.
I think it's the key moment where you really know if you can accept the whole person or care only for the part you did know.

Just think of it this way -- the Inquisitor will probably be in future games. So when Lavellan finally does get reunited with Solas and has her happy ending (which she will -- so fite me if anyone disagrees!), it will feel all the more deserved. All other romancers have it easy. Solasmancers alone will know the true depth of a Romance Epic.

It's like if you were to buy a dog, who you thought to be healthy, and a few months after you got him you found out he had cancer (the previous owners knew this but omissed it). You've grown attached to the dog now, and it is your decision to keep him, but you probably wouldn't have gotten him if you'd have known. Why suffer through all that future heartbreak and pain? What the previous owners did was wrong. They should of let you know what you were getting into.

@NeverlandHunter: I agree that during DA:I, the relationship is unbalanced. And honestly, with all the secrets Solas is keeping, I think it would have been difficult even if he decided to abandon his duty and stay with her during the vallaslin scene. But as of Trespasser, all the cards are on the table. They're both idiots, but IMO Lavellan bears equal burden of idiocy if she decides to continue the romance and try to save him.

Mmm...I wouldn't say it's analogous. If you bought a dog, you're directly responsible for its health and happiness and well-being. Solas is not directly responsible for any of those things vis-a-vis Lavellan. She's a grown-up, and while she might not have entered the relationship with full knowledge, let's be honest--getting into any relationship as the Inquisitor is potentially troublesome. Morrigan highlights this problem all the way back in DA:O--what happens when you have to choose between your love and your duty?
A lot of BioWare's romances start off as a "port in a storm," to borrow Dorian's phrase, with neither partner knowing where it'll go. I think that's how it started out between Solas and Lavellan too, just for different reasons. And while Solas clearly loves Lavellan, they never have a "what about the future" talk. Yes, it's crappy what he did, but he also made no promises.
And as for being in love with Solas in Trespasser, it's been two years. She might still have feelings for him, but she's also had two years of distance to clear her head. She's not in the throes of first love anymore.

I'm not sure that quite works out to being the same thing, but really, the proper response there is the same as it would be with a "luuuuv" situation. You proceed with a clear mind and do what you know to be correct for yourself and the knowledge that you now have. It might hurt, and it might not have been right, but that's all a part of life. There's only so far any of us can go to minimize any pain or harm. If someone is so wrapped up with the idea of love that they can't do that, then it might be on them to not have gotten into a relationship in the first place and never mind Solas. That's not a healthy place for anyone.
Speaking for my own Lavellan, she knew after a time that there was something not... quite... right about Solas, so while she was not necessarily guarded in their relationship she had already accepted something might change. And she was fine with that. Share what they could while they had it, because with her past that's how she saw the world. Joy comes and will eventually leave, by why deny yourself while you can experience it?
