Are- are we sharing stories about how we got into video games? Is that - that acceptable? I don't want to seem like a narcissist who only comes into this thread to talk about herself, but, uh okay, I'll just...

See, I got into gaming back in the Ps1/PS2 era. I used to play Pokemon and Kirby and some other game (Kaona? Kalona? Something like that) on that gameboy since before I can remember. And my dad's a tech junkie who used to work in the software industry, so he was always pining after the newest gadget, and I didn't really get into gaming until I started watching him play games on our PS2. Eventually we got a Gamecube to go with it and I started playing on my own - Sly Cooper, Super Mario, Windwaker, Jak and Daxter (Ah, Jak. The original elven husbando.) and a bunch of obscure titles like Portal Runner and Kya: Dark Lineage.

When I was around nine or ten, we got an xbox and my dad got me Fable (My parents weren't... the best, with content control. I got Vice City for Christmas when I was nine, for instance) and that started the RPG obsession. I devoured Morrowind, (Which is still the best ES! No don't make that face I will fight you.) and eventually Oblivion when it came out. A few years later the economy tanked and my dad gave up his job, so we played a lot of Halo and Gears of War and Dark Alliance together. But then a year or two later he found employment and I sort of... fell off the bandwagon a bit, since I had no one to share my passion with. Then I played Origins a few months after it came out, which got me into Mass Effect, which got me back into Elder Scrolls...

Nowadays I mostly play RPGs and stealth games (Deus Ex! Dishonored! Yuuusssss.) or sandbox/indie stuff like Terraria. I still don't play as much as I did when I was little, but I've never seen it as a bad thing, really. Or something girls shouldn't do, for that matter. I just have so much childhood nostalgia tied up in it. And it really helps when you're a dorky kid with a nearly visceral terror of social interaction.

@How I Got Into Gaming

My family inherited an Atari 2600 in the mid 80's and from there I pretty much just played them whenever they were around (my favorite Atari game is still Defender). When we got an Apple IIc, I played Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego and Lemonade Stand and Might & Magic - whatever games I could get my hands on. My parents wouldn't shell out for a Nintendo, so I had to go over to one of my younger brother's friend's to play Mario and Zelda and whatnot - I was twelve, so this also turned into a baby-sitting gig for a short time. When I got my own computer, I played Sims and Civ2&3 and XCom to exhaustion. Never really got into FPS or MMO games, though.

So, I guess I've always been a gamer. I got into tabletop gaming through one of my boyfriends in the early 90's (he owned a comic shop and we'd game after the store closed), and since then I've almost always been in a gaming group of some sort (my husband is currently running a Blades in the Dark campaign for our crew, which is a tabletop RPG based off of the game Dishonored). I've been a fan of DA since DAO, though I didn't get super fannish about it until DAI came around, because it's just that good.

I am a huge fan of Monty Python, and the rabbit in Holy Grail is one of the best jokes ever! It makes me ridiculously happy when people recognize the quote. ^^

Since we were sharing our video game experiences earlier, here's mine. Under the tag since it's pretty long.

I've been gaming ever since I was a toddler. My parents bought me an Atari back in the 80s and some of my first memories of video games involved me playing Pac-Man (the really bad-looking Pac-Man that's likely to give you epileptic seizures due to all the flickering x__x) and a game called Kangaroo.

A few years later, they got me an NES wherein I was introduced to a wonderful game called Super Mario Bros. It was here in this era where I really expanded my video game collection. Around the same at time we got our NES, I also played some PC games. A lot of my early PC gaming involved Sierra adventure games such as the very first King's Quest (which I called "The Walking Man" when I was a kid, for some strange reason) and Mixed-Up Mother Goose.

So growing up, I was basically a console gamer for the most part. From the NES I then upgraded to the Sega Megadrive, and from the Megadrive, the very first Playstation. It was in the PS1 era where I got my first taste of JRPGs with Final Fantasy VII being one of my all-time favorites. (Yeah, before Dragon Age, I was a Final Fantasy nut.) I played a whole lot of JRPGs during my PS1 days.

I never did buy a PS2 since my family was going through a rough patch during those years and I had to focus more on my college studies. But after graduation and after I've gotten a job and saved enough, I got myself a PS3 and my very first open-world Western RPG was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I was absolutely floored that one can heavily customize your own character and be any class you want to be and go anywhere you wanted to go in the game. After that, I had a hard time going back to playing JRPGs.

And then I got myself DA:O for the PS3, which was the very first Bioware game I've ever played. I was enthralled with the story, I loved the characters, with Alistair being my first Bioware crush, and the rest is history.

I forgot to mention I also had portable gaming consoles like the original Gameboy, Gameboy Color, the DS, and the PSP. I used to play quite a bit of Pokemon back in the day.

PC games were basically adventure games, like I said earlier. Mainly point-and click games. Besides the King's Quest series, I also played the Gabriel Knight series and the Broken Sword series. Also games like the Zork series, Myst, Shivers... yeah you name it.

As for parents, they're basically okay with me playing video games as long as it didn't affect my studies, though my mom was much stricter when it comes to that. She and my dad did game a bit on the old NES when I was a kid though. Mom was especially good at Bomberman and she and dad would play co-op mode in Tetris which was pretty hilarious. Nowadays, my mom just games casually on her phone with some word games, match 3 games, puzzles, etc.

And for friends, well, I did have a few friends who played but we lived so far away from each other so we couldn't always play together, which basically means my video game playmates were mainly either my sister or my dad.
