As much as I would absolutely love that, I think this would be unlikely. Reasons - what Illyria said -  imagine just how many different options you need to have just for romances. Taking over those from DAI and their outcomes (some LI could be dead, personal quests completed or not) plus adding new DA4 LI. Awakening (from what I understand as I haven't played it myself) was much smaller and didn't really have romance content.

 

Although as I said, in the world with all the funding and all of the possibilities, I would love this idea as it would totally tick all the boxes.

 

Awakening is a 10 hour expansion with an unvoiced PC.  Only 1 LI has a cameo, and since that depends on worldstate it will never happen in the default one (which is the worldstate used if a custom HoF isn't use).

Thanks! Yeah, thought pretty much the same. Would be impossible to re-create in DA4, especially that after 2 games (DAII and DAI) they will have soooooo many world states to deal with on top of the new stuff.

Like here's another unrelated example, I found and called this one out like six months ago or something so it's by the by (been dealt with and apologized to etc, please don't harass this person) just mentioning it for reference. (I don't mind naming this person, and didn't mind approaching them and calling them out on it, because it was just a person. I feel scared and uncomfortable doing so to someone who has a large following, because I've seen that situation unfold many times before - a drama!war explodes and many of the person's dedicated followers don't believe the accuser and start to harass them. It's wimpy and lame of me but there it stands. Too uncomfortable and afraid to disclose it to people, I'm sorry)

Pro-tip, it wasn't "their" take, that was my take, copied line by line word for word, pasted. You don't come up with six paragraphs of the exact same words in the exact same order magically, haha.

She was a bit 'off'. By the time I found out about it there wasn't really much I could do. At least I know my story was good enough to win though, right? lol

lol, yep! 4 times, wow! That has got to be frustrating. I'm tempted to say name and shame but I get that sometimes the fighting isn't worth it.

I will say there is good in the world/faith in humanity still, one time I cross-posted my theory (essay length) to another website under a completely random username and people were saying I'd stolen it from knight-enchanter and I was like omg I'm so sorry thanks but no I AM knight-enchanter, lol!

The internet's a scary place, and I've seen enough tumblr (goes without saying) and dA drama!wars to know that oftentimes it doesn't matter who's in the wrong, if the person has a big enough following the idiots will defend them to the death. I mean, hell, look at Bieber fans! And since it's the internet, people feel at liberty to say and do what they want with little-to-no repercussions.
 

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. :C It's not fun and it's a difficult situation.

 

In all honesty, I've found half of the people who steal stuff like that don't even realise they're stealing. They see it as no different than taking an image they find and posting it to sites like Reddit and Imgur (which is still stealing but I digress). Many would just consider it sharing. I used to go on a site called Neopets and I can't tell you the amount of times my artwork would be uploaded to a competition with my name removed and, after confronting them, a surprising amount don't realise it counts as stealing.

 

That's obviously going under the assumption that they're all telling the truth, and it's possible they're lying, but a good amount of them I kept track of don't do it again, with my or anyone else's artwork, so I'm leaning towards those at least were telling the truth.

 

Still, if they're literally copy+pasting+exclaiming "look what I did!" it's hard to see they don't realise what they're doing. Sorry again, MJ. All the hugs .

I got my Invite to AO3 in my inbox this morning. So before I had to wake the kid for school I set up the first chapter...It's the same from Fanfic so if you've already read it there isn't anything new except to fix some past present mistakes that I missed the first dozen times I edited the dang thing! I know that eventually this will have some smut, I've already written and cut a few scenes already because they were too soon in the story, so yeah...it's gonna happen.

I have to say, I have pretty much the same line of thinking. Going into Trespasser, I was thinking they will end the story of the Inquisitor, but they have left it so open ended, that I can help my let my mind wonder if they will keep the same protagonist for DA4. It has all the pros that you are talking about

- seems like ex-quisitor is still relevant and has fight in her/him left

- story seems to not be completely resolved and very tight around hunt/redeem Solas plot

- lost arm seems like a prefect chance to wipe off all the skills/powers and start new (BTW, having disabled protagonist would be absolutely AWESOME in my books, just thinking of the cool weapons and gadgets that could be attached to her/his arm make me really excited)

 

BUT there are also many cons that are just as strong

- What about new players who don't know inquisitor and their story (yeah, I guess they could be caught up via-DA keep... but how many people will know about the keep? I only learnt about it (properly) after completing the game)

- What about romances, especially for non-solasmancers? Surely it won't be easy, again for new players, to continue romancing the same character (say Cullen) from DAI who they know nothing about?

- and finally 'It is a story about Thedas and not about any particular character' bit

 

I am sure there other pros/cons (I am also sure, people have discussed this before, sorry guys, catching up with the thread as been away), but these are the main ones going through my head. So I am still undecided of what is the likeliest outcome for DA4 protagonist... so I guess, yay Team Optimism?

 

I think some of these issues can be easily dealt with, like new players will be given a default Inquisitor, and they will play through the game the same as the others, making decisions along the way as they see fit. I think the only thing that will be different is the emotional significance will not be there as it would for us.

 

It will still be a story about Thedas. The Inquisitor will be exploring Tevinter/northern Thedas and their culture and inhabitants as much as any new character.

 

The romances will be an issue, unfortunately. People who romanced Cullen/Josephine/Sera/Cass etc will want to continue, then you will need to have new romances too.

 

They would never do that.

 

If the devs had and unlimited budget and time, maybe.  The sheer amount of dialouge needed would be astronomical.  You'd need dialouge for all four Inquisitor voices, plus at least two new voices.  Numerous lines would have to be recorded up to 6 times, and each peice of dialouge would have to have vairations accounting for romance, relationship in the past game, being the new PC, the state of the Inquisiton in the end game...

 

Yeah, I thought about that too. Do you think it might be possible for them to use the current VAs for new characters as well? Or will they want to stay with a specific VA for each character?

I don't do drama, I just unfollow/block/etc if anything. Would rather just not support or promote someone I knew doing that.
