She just confirmed that the Hard in Hightown chapter in the library was essentially "Fade spirit fanfiction"

Everyone loves Varric and his writing. Even spirits.

Kadan, I added your fic to the collection and added you as a member! :)

...Also, may I suggest that anyone who wants to promote the Blanketfort on AO3 add a link to their sig? 'Cause reasons...

**goes back to lurking** <3

Thank you!

I feel honoured :) Just trying to summon up a chapter, but my husband took over my PC and started his own DA:O playthrough and totally took away my mojo. I had some great idea while huffing and puffing on a treadmill, but sadly, it is gone.

Pffft.

Regarding plagiarization, intellectual property, copyrights and alike have slightly different concepts country from country and region from region. The understanding is very strict throughout US and Europe. It is much looser here in Middle East, and I imagine Asia will have different definition to it as well.

It doesn't lessen the pain of having work - any work - stolen. The more if it actually proves to be successful in other's hands. :(

Don't let the lack of computer stop you from putting your thoughts down, get a notebook so you can write when the computer isn't available! I take a small 5x6 journal with me everywhere. If I have a few minutes to wait I start writing. If I know I'm going ot have time waiting I print the last chapter I wrote and edit it while I wait.

Like here's another unrelated example, I found and called this one out like six months ago or something so it's by the by (been dealt with and apologized to etc, please don't harass this person) just mentioning it for reference. (I don't mind naming this person, and didn't mind approaching them and calling them out on it, because it was just a person. I feel scared and uncomfortable doing so to someone who has a large following, because I've seen that situation unfold many times before - a drama!war explodes and many of the person's dedicated followers don't believe the accuser and start to harass them. It's wimpy and lame of me but there it stands. Too uncomfortable and afraid to disclose it to people, I'm sorry)

I used to create for Sims 2 and 3, I could spend days marking stuff that was stolen, and have had my own work lifted as well. Someone took my world a whole world, map that I had sculpted, painted and lots/houses I had built and furnished all on my own, took me nearly a year to create. Well my original work was marked as the stolen one and deleted from MY EA account and theirs was left allowing them to take credit for my work. I feel your pain. I never did get it resolved with EA.

Hello, I'm a lurker. I feel like a little intruder because you all seem to get along so well. So, I figured an awkward introduction was in order before I posted. I've been a bit intimidated by everyone's amazing and enlightening posts and theories. Seriously, not empty praise some posts have been so spot on they seemed like spoilers. I'm finally posting because I realized how much I don't want this game to simply end with my finishing a play-through or two.

Welcome! I was new here myself not long ago. I'm always late to the party. :)

So does that mean that whoever was left in the Fade has become some sort of Fade celebrity spirits need to write fanfiction about?

Also would pay to read Solavellan ships written by spirits.

I'm not quite fully awake yet.

And I guess this hasn't been posted in a bit.

Solaskiss_zpsy4c481fd.gif

I don't think I've ever mentioned exactly how much I love that .gif, I get this fluttery-heart-stomach feeling every time I look at it (so eloquent am I), it's so beautifully animated. It always makes me think that's what my first kiss should have been like rather than that one awkward time under a radiator (yes) where two sweet and innocent fifteen year olds did something involving tongue mashing.

Also quoting because we need it again on this page.

my face when I find that a big name in the tumblr da fandom has lifted and copied parts of my theories verbatim and passed it off as their own ideas/own work

god i'm so mad

wait what.

who do I need to beat up.

no seriously. that's ****** awful. plagiarism in any kind of form is 100% not cool that's urgh, horrible. Hope you're doing ok MJ :(

There is still a large number of people who fail to realise that 'on the internet' does not equal 'free to use'.

After Trespasser I consider Solas to be the best written companion of the series to date for me; and yet not because I learned something more about him. No, quite the opposite I've been left with feelings of knowing less of him. I went in an Eluvian and came out with a whole new perspective as well as some confirmations on lore and legends from this series. He's not the trickster god of Dalish childish frights but he admits he is neither the savior painted in desperation in the Crossroads. I think he has reached me more deeply, more directly than any other character. I've always loved Morrigan on a friendship path and thought her to be well-written and poignant in her struggles to grow. He's similar to her in that regard because I didn't have to romance him either in order to appreciate him and truly love that analytical, morally grey and quietly observant (but strongly opinionated) mind of his. (But I did romance him and will continue to do so because optimistic fangirl is optimistic stubborn. My Lavellan will not surrender! She conquers and comforts!) For some he may be perceived to be this emotionally detached man but I think he's allowed his past shame, guilt or commitment to hollow him. I think he knows it's easier to not wander from a set path when you let no one walk it with you because when you have another by your side you look at your surroundings differently. Suddenly there's a diverging path when there was but one before.

TL;DR or the 15 second have I ever wanted to hear one of your endless explanations version: I like Solas alot. He's imperfection makes him perfect and reflective. This thread is amazing. I apologize for rambling. If I post again I'll try to stay on topic.

HELLO! :)

welcome, welcome, everyone's welcome in the blanket fort, we have lots of cushions and pillows and sugary snacks too for all your broken-hearted needs.

I definitely agree that Trespasser is more questions than answers now. There's a lot of theories about Solas' origins in particular which didn't exist before - I think many people thought that he was just part of the pantheon, and always was (*sticks hands up*). It's quite possible he was once a slave, or perhaps a guardian spirit, or perhaps was trusted enough to be a general of Mythal's armies, the second-in-command? It'd explain all the statues. Perhaps Fen'Harel was having his Evanuris application processed before Mythal died and he went all rebellious, or perhaps he only rose to prominence after that fact and was otherwise unknown.

Also, I love Morrigan's friendship path too - she grows so much as a character, I'd even go as far to say it's possibly better for her to have a friend than a lover given how she finds herself having to lie so much to someone she didn't expect to like. She's just a giant cinammon roll underneath that cruel, cold exterior - it's just a case of prying it out. I reckon had I done as I intended on my first playthrough and played a female qunari mage, I probably would have been very close friends with Solas - always found his character intriguing even just by description (a dreamer mage??? yess!!!), I switched faces pretty much so I could romance him and get the full experience.

So I was wondering. How come no one cries in Dragon Age?

Animation reasons, probably. I mean, well - people do, but usually they're distressed NPCs on side quests.

I already have the Solas tee and the Morrigan shirt.  I kinda really like that Cass plate hoodie.  Winter is going to be settling in here in Northern Alberta pretty soon so I just want more hoodies!  There's an Orlais hoodie for only 10 bucks, and a Tevinter for 20.  Mens though I think.  Pfffft I don't care, I'll wear em anyways!  Maybe I should convince someone to buy all the things I want as a super early birthday gift hrmmmm.

It's probably hard to animate, though there are several character cut scenes where it would have been really appropriate - with Dorian, and Varric and Solas. Don't worry, they're all crying on the inside if Cole is to be believed. The voice acting is good enough that it gets the emotions across.

I'm actually really really tempted to get the Morrigan tee. I love Morrigan, that design is excellent, plus it's subtle enough that nobody would see it in public and think HEY IT'S A VIDEO GAME NERD. Like, I could see myself cutting off the sleeves, and wearing it to a punk gig, and probably prompting a few interesting conversations about video games/women in video games if people recognised it.

I bet the shipping is something like a gazillion pounds though, nothing ever ships from Europe.

also oh my god oh my god I'd definitely buy those inquisition-patterned leggings if they weren't, like, £40 ;__;

Yeah Lavellan really should have had some tears in the breakup scene.  Like how Liara cries in ME3 after Thessia.

Yeah the shipping is stupid expensive, and I can never understand why.  Even here to Canada.  I buy things from US stores all of the time and never pay more than around 10 for shipping.  That's why I love the J!nx store so much. (Shipping is always under 8 bucks for me) Unfortunately they don't carry any BioWare games on their store.  But have pretty much every other company on there.  Their Blizzard stuff is great.

The Morrigan shirt is really nice.  It's cut a bit different so it fits nicer than a tshirt.

I feel the same.

Though my first kiss was kind of precious. It happened behind the elementary school both of us had attended years before but we were 14/15 and it was spring and it sort of happened.

noooo shipping is $15.

I mean, given that these t-shirts are discounted anyway, it rounds about £15... which is about as much I'd pay for a pricey band t-shirt at a gig I really liked. Meaning I can justify buying it... maybe, in an alternate universe where I have money.

Yeah that's why I usually wait til they have a big sale before I order something.  I'll get several shirts at a discounted price so the shipping doesn't feel as bad.  But unfortunately too broke right now :(.

Shipping charges sometimes make me close tabs and saves me money.

And I just reread that and it does sound like that.  Though I was also inspired by that experience in one of my fics.
