Yeah sorry, had a serious peptalk/scolding session with the adviser, so now I'm on semi-hiatus mode on everything. I'll still pop in every now and then though, here and at the collection

 

OH and I forgot to mention, I'm really sorry about your friend Kadan. My grandfather passed just a few months ago, and I'm still hit with the occasional bout of grief. But at least they're in a better place now. Or if you don't believe in the afterlife, then as you said, your friend had a good life. Take it easy, yeah?

I haven't gotten to romance Cassandra yet. 

I already have my guy all planned out too. Thalion Lavellan, archer. He will have light blonde hair and blue eyes because I am unable to create male elves that don't look like Legolas. Seriously, it's an issue.

I never really noticed Cassandra's walk before. I like Leliana's though ^.^

My two pence on tumblr:

 

I am still confused on how to use it properly. lol

 

I joined after falling in love with DAI and Solas, and realising how much awesome art is getting posted on tumblr. So I follow almost anyone - artists, reblogs, cosplayers - an do very little to curate the list of blogs I follow. Somehow in this mess, I also managed to avoid all tumblr drama.

I've been on Tumblr going on 3 years now. I honestly wonder how much "tumblr drama" really exists and how much gets blown out of proportion, cus I never see it. lol Like I'll see someone complaining about "hate in the tags" for a particular character or fandom, but when I go in there, I see like, maybe two actual posts that are hating on something. Maybe I'm just tumblring wrong?

Maybe it is because I don't really comment, just mostly reblog art and do my podcast post every two weeks or so. I think I am approaching tumblr too much like pintrest... but I don't like pintrest... (this makes no sense to me either. I did say I was confused... haha).

 

So yeah, if someone could educate me on how to use tumblr properly ( ), that would be lovely! (Maybe not in this thread, I wouldn't want to get us in the off-topic trouble).

On tumblr: I've used it for about two years now, on-and-off. My blog is 99% shitposting and the occasional painting or political post - asides from an NGE phase I had last year (a decade late, well done me), I feel quite weird stepping into fandom, I've consciously avoided it for years.

As for using tumblr, there are lots of different ways of approaching it - some see it as a social network, but I tend to view it as an online depository. I tend to think of it as personal collection of beautiful pictures, amusing .gifs, good jokes, etc. It's meant I've managed to step around the worst of it.

If there's any rule I'd put forward, it's never send online hate ever, use your anons for a task for good.

 

Some see it as a social network, and you can use it that way, but Tumblr is more made for sharing than real discussion, so while you can connect and reblog and have about 10 nested reblogs with comments and all that, it's clunky. You can send comments on posts but they're really character limited. The idea is really to reblog and comment there as the way to communicate, or use Asks.

 

Sometimes I don't want to reblog an entire thing but I want to more than Like it, so I'll leave a comment if the person has comments open (and you can NOT have them open). it's a bit like a maze at times, so i tend to stick to sharing but it depends. I have a really low post volume so I just reblog things I really like or feel something toward.

Hey, I went through this. It took me about two days to write a kissing/affectionate scene because it was harrrrrd.

I've seen a lot of discussion lately about Solas + the Norse mythology around Ragnarok. He's got some fun parallels to Loki, things that go beyond "they're both trickster gods."

So I dug up a Dael Kingsmill video about Ragnarok. I think I made the (!!!) sound at least a half dozen times while watching it.



I figured that titans were probably a reference to Norse giants, but I had no idea about all the other stuff. Suffice to say, if you watch this video, you'll understand why all the mythology buffs are so interested in Solas.

I need to go back and read that Norse mythology collection I had as a kid.

I do enjoy it, especially all DA art   And Solas-an's screenshots always make things better. But otherwise, completely clueless as to what I am supposed to do with it.

The character of Loki does share some similarities with Solas (being a trickster, belonging to both sides of opposing factions, in the end turning on his friends etcetera). However, it is interesting to note that in parts of the tale of Loki the Evanuris seem to share a stronger bond. Loki tricked the brother of Balder into killing him with an arrow with a mistletoe (the only thing in the world that had never promised not to kill Balder) and for that he was sentenced by the other gods to be bound in a cave, where a snake was placed over his head to drop a horrible venom on him and thus causing him immense pain. His wife would faithfully hold a plate above his head to gather the venom, but every now and then she would have to empty it and then the venom for a few seconds would once again drop on Loki.

 

Now, I find this part of the story to have a couple of strong parallels with the Evanuris:

• Mythal, like Balder, was unjustly murdered.
• Mythal (although not confirmed) was probably murdered by the use of trickery, just like Balder.
• The Evanuris have, according to Solas, been suffering in their imprisonment, just like Loki was condemned to suffer.
• When released the Evanuris is predicted to wreck havoc, just like Loki will during Ragnarök.

So I would say that the writers have taken a great deal of inspiration for Norse mythology, but Solas is not the only character who has been inspired by it.

 

A little trivia: The wolf Fenrir? His name in Norse is actually Fenris...

I think I've managed to just turn the hellspiral into three prongs of interrelated stories taking place at three different points in time (1, First love, life, culture, 2, Nirwen's clan visit post-Corypheus and with no vallaslin, and 3, return to clan to warn and with arm gone, post-Trespasser) and it has become a bit of a challenge to weave them all. But also creative fuel since I have bits and plot things and even parallels already planned out and if I can manage to pull off what I want to, it will feel good.
