Yeah, I totally relate to a lot of these 'I'm shy', or 'I find being around people difficult' posts.
I am quite awkward around people, especially new people. I have lots of weird facial expressions and involuntary tics that I'm very self conscious of, and I'm really awful at small talk, so I often freak out, a little, at the idea of having to juggle a conversation for more than five minutes. I earned a reputation last year for leaving parties less than an hour in without telling anyone because I find them so completely overwhelming. I think most people are wonderful but I find them very difficult to get on with and really exhausting a lot of the time, so there are long periods where I just don't and avoid ![]()
I think it's worth the effort to try and be less shy. I've spent the past... five years teaching myself, and it does make things easier. I've screwed up enough times to know it's not that bad, in the end.
As for depressive episodes... I can semi-relate. I have a lot of self-esteem problems, and when they get really bad I can go through several-week-long 'blue' phases of struggling to do basic things like get out of bed or feed myself properly. I think folks who have it for real - you deserve all the sympathy and love the world has got to offer.
I do that, but I feel it kinda ruins the RP. The others aren't doing anything for you're approval, why are you doing it for theirs? Especially at the start.
I meant less in a game-play sense, more... sometimes you meet people, you're impressed by them, you know they have a strict sense of right/wrong or maybe a list of 'things you never should do', and you change some moral positions that perhaps you once took for granted or never really thought too hard about. For instance, I would imagine Dorian would have a greatly changed opinion of slavery after spending enough time with them. Except, it doesn't always take time - sometimes it can happen pretty quickly.

I'm a sociable introvert. I like people. I'm comfortable interacting with them, including relative strangers as long as we have something in common. And it took a couple years of practice to get there. But at the end of the day, I still feel drained from it. I lose energy from being with people and extroverts gain energy from being with people. Again, nothing better about one approach than the other. It just means that my very extroverted boyfriend learns when I need time to recharge my social batteries.

Not sure if this is the right thread but I had a thought, and OMG AF I cant be bothered looking through all the pages to see if its a common theory or not.
So sorry if Im just repeating what people already say.
But I have a theory on why modern elves are now mortal. Solas said the veil is the reason the elves are dying so obvs thats why. But is it because when you sleep your spirit is attracted to the fade and "sunders itself" from your body to go for a frolic? So everytime you sleep you are ageing your physical self. If the veil was not there your spirit would not need to wander and be separated from you. Spirits are immortal and elves are more connected to spirits than anything (they are born of spirits) so Im pretty sure that is another reason why Solas feels that modern elves are tranquil and not of his people to begin with? They are disconnected with there spirits. Modern elves are really exposed to having there spirits corrupted by it wandering around away from you and not having an anchor.
So its why when you are asleep it is easy for the bad spirits to possess you. Because your own spirit has left you empty and your body is up for the taking. So right now Solas is mortal. (Could he corrupt himself seeing as he's sundered and go full on Dread Wolf Pride Demon if you dont show him compassion/love/worth in this world/friendship) He might be compromised? Vulnerable. And Patrick said in Lavellan romance that if he gave it all up for her he would betray himself....become someone he's not?? Change? Forget himself? He's already forgotten himself if we go by what Cole says in Trespasser. Patrick probably didnt mean that in a tricky way but he IS a BioWare writer, so.
This would explain why he is determined to do it all now and why he seems in a rush to remove the veil. He's dying. Its now or never to save those trapped and those in thedas.
Maybe Zathrian in Origins bound his own spirit to his body and thats how he extended his life? I cant remember if it was explained how he did it but I dont think he said anything so just another theory.
Maybe thats why Dwarfs have that inbuilt fear of leaving underground and falling up? There souls are.....dirt lol so they go back to the stone.
I honestly dont know much about dwarves I didnt play descent yet and only know a little about Titans. (so thats why dwarfs can be golems is it?)
But seeing as lyrium is blighted Im seriously worried for thedas and the dwarves. Could blighted lyrium corrupt the dwarves (song) and turn them strange soon? If the earth is blighted then the world goes to sh*t soon anyway. Lyrium is conneted to the fade so I think the veil is coming down beause it has to in DA4.
Also sorry I said corrupted 29 times but whatever ![]()

Zathrian gained his immortality by bringing Lady of the Forest into the physical realm and binding her both to himself, and to Witherfang. So basically, as long as the werewolf curse endured, so did Zathrian. The game's not clear on exactly how this works. I'm guessing some combination of blood magic and spirit shenanigans?
As for Solas, I don't think he cares very much about whether he dies, and he says that most people's conscious connection to the Fade is gone. I'm guessing when he says "most," he means that mages are still connected to the Fade. It might not be so much that he's dying, and more that he's running out of time to fix his mistake. And he fears he'll lose his nerve, especially with friendly/romanced quizzy opposing him.
We've tossed around the "ancient elves were spirits" theory before. Personally, I think there's more to it than that. If the elves were spirits, what were humans before the Veil? What were dwarves? Is it some kind of continuum, with elves being the most spirity and dwarves the least?

Oh yes thats right thank you
yeah I dont think Solas cares what happens to him so long as he fixes his mistakes before whatever happens, happens.
He's in full Fen'Harel mode, but the more you can touch the Solas side of him the more he remembers that side? Makes things harder...aaaand that whole sentence sounded a little dirty.
Im so curious how this is going to turn out, like you said what of the humans, dwarves and qunari? Hmmm. Maybe elves are like children to spirits, first spirits made flesh (I have no idea) and humans are elves children LLlllllllllllooooolllllll to all the human superior race if thats so. Must be a reason that Human+elf=human. Like it gets further from the spirits roots the more you become...fleshy? I cant get my thoughts out right *sigh*
Sooo could also add to why,, apart from the obvious, why Solas isnt attracted at all to non-elves

I think they came from plants (reposting from the lore thread):
"They made bodies from the earth, and the earth was afraid. It fought back but they made it forget."
"In this place we prepare to hunt the pillars of the earth. Their workers scurry, witless, soulless. This death will be a mercy. We will make the earth blossom with their passing."
For one moment there is a vivid image of two overlapping spheres; unknown flowers bloom inside their centers. Then it fades.
"Hail Mythal, adjudicator and savior! She has struck down the pillars of the earth and rendered their demesne unto the People! Praise her name forever!"
For a moment, the scent of blood fills the air, and there is a vivid image of green vines growing and enveloping a sphere of fire.
The pages of this book—memory?—describes an immensely tall, immensely graceful vine that flowers with the heat of a copper sunset and has blossoms as large as ponds, petals as long as a man (that's making it obvious now!), and scents puffing out like citron and sky and carrion-death.
The day the last of the vines folds, spent and extinct, the creator of this memory weeps and, after recording the flower's sights and sounds, enters uthenera. "Treasure this thought, for it was the last of its kind, and so much more than the last of me (what does that mean?)."
Apparently elves were casting a huge spell using lyrium to make something bloom. Why I don't really know ; perhaps to make "bodies from the earth" .
Also weird image of an elf coming out of a flower from the DA artbook..
TL;DR:
I think the elves cast a huge spell to make something bloom ,using Titans blood.

IMO it's worth the effort to try and be more comfortable interacting with people. But if you're an introvert, you're an introvert, and there's nothing wrong with that
I'm a sociable introvert.
Believe it or not, I have a similar situation. I suppose I've been an introvert most of my life, at least...It's hard for me to explain. I've always been painfully shy and awkward in most social situations, except around friends. I think much my ambivalence has to do with my upbringing. I am an only child that was raised in a house full of people, including my great-grandmother, grandfather, grandmother and mother. Other extended family members were nearby and frequent visitors. My grandmother ran a beauty shop in the house where I grew up (all are gone now except for mom)...So, in spite of it all, I am used to and love being around people, but only those I am comfortable or at least "familiar with". (I'm sorry for this, but I think I need to vent a little.)
The strangest thing happened when I got a little older (Please note I am NOT condoning or promoting this behavior or self-medication), I noticed that drinking acted as a "social lubricant" and turned me into a "social butterfly", in a way, it was like I became, or let out, my inner extrovert. After quite a few years (okay, 15-20 years, tbh) of clubs and running wild...It started to get old. I really didn't want to rely on anything likely so detrimental to mind and body as a "crutch", so I stopped drinking. I don't consider myself an alcoholic, but I was afraid of becoming one like so many other family members and friends I've seen who had their lives destroyed or ended.
***PSA: Please drink responsibly, or don't drink (your choice, completely)...The world will thank you.***
So now here I am years later, still struggling with social anxiety, etc. (and I'm probably going to hate myself in the morning when I realize I posted this)
Maybe it's because I'm a Gemini?
