1. You don't need to be married to have kids.

2.Clans switch people all the time when they meet. The dalish warden's parents were from 2 different clans.

3.The dalish are open with elves out side of the clan sleeping elves with in the clan.

 

Those characters don't seem to have any children; Zathrian's clan even accepts Aneirin living on his own in the wilderness, keeping a distance from the clan. There's no indication that the Dalish are like the Western Brotherhood of Steel, in contrast to how Veronica and Christine were treated for being gay, as an example.

Welp, I just lost ALL interest in him. Solas no longer has a place in my first play through party and maybe not even in Skyhold at all... Damn, this is frustrating news

I would absolutely break something and say some very choice words if Solas is another "heal me with your hoo-ha because of my dead wife" character. Sorry Solas, I may just murderknife you out of years-long pent up anger over that trope.

With as much as things appear to be shaken up at this point, I have hopes we will encounter less cliches and tropes than usual with this cast of characters.

 

I have faith in the DAI writing team that they wont give us something like that.  And Weeke's writing is generally pretty fantastic (he wrote some of the best parts of ME3 and DA:ME was fantastic). 

 

And even if there is a dead wife in Solas' backstory just remember: it's more complicated than that.

In general. ME3 is not the entirety of Bioware's game library.

If you're going to count all of bw's Library, Lesbians have 9 characters they can romance in all of bw's games. 12 for straight woman. 6 for gay men.

I was hoping he would be bi because I wanted to make a Captain Jack inquisitor to romance him with. Then we found out about him being elf only and I thought 'Captain Jack with pointy ears!' And now he's straight.... Well looks like one of my quizzys will be Captain Jaqueline the manliest female elf in Thedas XD

I've said for a while now that Solas is the only male character in the game I would consider playing a straight character for if I had to so female only doesn't bother me at all.

However if the reason for it is 'elf babies' then as long as I don't actually have to see them then I don't care. Like if he mentions it in conversation I don't care as long as it doesn't come up again until the ending slides because I can very easily ignore those. I hate babies in real life (because reasons) so I don't want them in my games too XD luckily I doubt BioWare would ever include that kind of thing, so the most I'm expecting is an ending slide of (and they lived happily ever after with some elven brats) which I can quite easily ignore

I'm hoping Solas being female elf only is not just for babies, that would be too boring in and of itself for such an interesting character imo. We'll find out soon enough I guess.

I really hope that elf babies are not the romance reason. Kids are gross.

 I had to go somewhere and I'm still trying to catch up but I don't know what to think of this....all this "Oh he's only for female elves its bcause he wants the elf babies" well maybe he doesn't want elf babies......good GOD. I understand some of you are upset but jeez. smh

Really? Because you can't romance him you aren't even going to recruit him? Wow, over reaction just a tad?

You'd be missing out on a whole character and his story because you can't get into his pants.

You know what'd be cool? If there was some sort of Elven mythology Fade thing that's the catalyst for the romance. Sort of like the reason why we thought he'd be gated against Dwarves but even more specific. Or maybe something to do with the Eluvians.

I do have faith in the writers. I'm just jaded after so many characters that were like that.

 

And a case of, "I married young, she died/ran off/fell out of love, been on my own since" would be just fine. A case of, "I lost my ONE TWOO WUV and have been alone with my sadness boo-hoo" would make me set him on fire.

It was just a hypothetical question. I have two acquaintances who got dumped by their husbands after finding out they couldn't get children, it's horrible and heartbreaking.

Personally speaking, I think he's just raised this way and simply not attracted to males. 'Keeping the bloodline clean' strikes me as a kind of creepy theory, i dont know... Having a sexual orientation solely because of feelings of duty towards his species? I might change my current opinion on his character if that's true.
