Oh Solas thread, I'm sorry for leaving you. Schools been in the way. But my Lavellen Mage is still in place (In Crestwood, to be precise. She did just did Wicked eyes and wicked hearts). I don't think I'll finish it, to be honest. Ugh, it's my third playthrough. I'm not gonna finish them all, doing DAI mutilply times is too... Longish.

I'd find that pretty cute. I understand why people go for the professor vibe but I love the compassionate side and like I said earlier, it's not even so much the rebel. A disillusioned activist Solas and a Lavellan who makes him see people as worth caring about...well...yes please.

I've been planning on drawing something for the past three weeks, it's rare, I usually have no muse.

But I'm, lazy?

It always goes like this:

On weekdays: working throughout the day, evening arrives, wants to draw, "ugh I hate starting things when it's dark outside".

On weekends: waking up late, reading forum, watching vids, maybe playing, evening arrives, wants to draw, "ugh I hate starting things when it's dark outside".

I'm trying to force myself to start, I even opened a tumblr yesterday (since I can't bring myself to post DA fanart on my DA deviantArt account) but spent... a lot of my free time on designing it using a free theme and my knowledge of HTML & CSS.

My first Lavellan was an archer. But except for the two or three moments when the quizzy's profession is brought up, there doesn't seem to be any differences. Which bothered me a little, actually, since in the final fight against that dragon she whips out daggers and kills that thing and I was like "WTH? Use your goddamn bow, lady!!" I'm not sure what special dialogue you mean, but I guess it's the specialization dialogue? You would have that talk with the companion who has the same spec as you, I guess. My Lavellan was an Artificer and had a dialogue with Varric about it.

I'm not really much into AUs, with the rare exception, but I'd be more taken with sociopolitical activist Solas than these formal, professor, politician, military, doctor, ideas.

 

I think I mentioned a while back my AU idea of the Inquisition at a Pride event?  Because I totally need to write that.  Mostly for this:

so tomorrow I am going to the national conference for the largest/dominant political party in my country, with an advocacy (equality+inclusion sorta stuff) group I'm connected to, to talk about stuff like non-binary recognition (!!) and other trans equality issues like access to healthcare sdfdsdsedgfd. I'm not like doing a presentation or anything it's totally minor but will be speaking to party members and members of parliament etc who come by 

 

and my eyes are the size of saucers just thinking about it LOL

I think Buffy stepped aside for Willow to have Giles, since we know that Willow had a massive crush on him in the early seasons (and even his picture in her locker). Even when she was with Tara in the later seasons, the sight of Giles singing karaoke made her a little weak at the knees...

 

(Everytime I think I need to rewatch Buffy because it's been years, my detailed knowledges of the show makes me think that I probably don't need too...)

 

Actually, Solas being the Dead Wolf and Giles being a former rebel Watcher known as "Ripper" actually makes me think that a fusion fic combining both Buffy and Dragon Age could seriously work! And as a challenge to the thread's Photoshop Gods, is it possible to create a Solas!Giles?

That was my main issue with the models, especially in the Skyhold PJs (armor looked fine most of the time). Mine is a stabby, compact damage machine, why is she so spindly?

 

Finally, the Wardrobe and one of the outerwear outfits made her look actually substantial enough to do some damage while still believable as someone fast and stealthy.

 

There's mods for that!

 

I'm not modding since my PC is too old and setting meshes to ultra turns my game into a slideshow. I did like that someone created options for arm/leg size for elves though.

Imagine, young!Solas teaching his first undergraduate class as a grad student. Imagine now, if you may, if Sera was in that class. Imagine Sera, feet on the table, chewing noisily - be it gum, or crisps, or maybe just her lunch because screw this class, eyes rolling exaggeratedly when she's asked what she thinks of Gisharel's interpretation of 19th century elven history (it's required credit class of some kind, she wouldn't choose to be there) and she simply goes: "well, he's full of sh*t, yeah?"

And she's completely right too. He is full of sh*t - he puts too much weight on particular sources and shuts down a whole plethora of interpretations by ignoring others, privileging a romanticised look at history which simply isn't true.
 
I mean, I'm not even sure if he'd be capable of hating her since she is possibly as insufferable as he was at the same age, even if she manages to be so in a completely different way. He later discovers that despite appearances, she also tops her class in chemistry (tempest specialisation, of course). She's not only a brat, but a precocious brat.

Bull would definitely be the sort of guy you bump into honestly thinking, 'oh yeah, bet he's on the football team' but it turns out he's a grad student studying something really intellectually demanding and he's damn good at it too, like maybe medicine, or law (I can only see Bull doing something applied or practical to be honest), and somehow manages to juggle that, several sports clubs or societies, and have an awesome social life on top of that, and makes it look effortless. Definitely a work-hard play-hard kind of guy. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out he did his bachelor's degree at a really elite institution or something.
 
I can also envision Cole as this super shy first year who barely squeaks and Sera teases him mercilessly all the time (they probably live next to each other or something).

I appreciate them (the Bioware team) giving a subtle rebellious middle finger to the Court by putting that helmet on Solas... but yeah. He looks so much better with that sans hat mod. Too many 'The King and I' vibes for me, otherwise. Haha.

Guys, I've woken up this morning and I think I *have* to write that grad school AU.

I'm thinking something based on Solas & Sera friendship - he teaches the first seminar of the year, they hate each other, he b*tches about her to Dorian (or anyone who will listen, so Dorian), he then heads to the local coffee shop to start his shift (he works probably three different jobs because grad school is expensive) only to find Sera has just been hired as his new co-worker.

Hilarity ensues. They eventually end up becoming friends. I'll throw in SeraxDagna somehow. Maybe I'll even ship Solas with someone, and Sera or Dorian ends up playing wingman. Yes. I like this.
 

Anders flashes a huge "don't" sign, but I went for it anyway. And there is a sweet side of the whole thing too, even with all the tragic parts.

 
Oh yeah, I was the same too on my first playthrough of DA2. Anders and Justice were both my favourite characters in Awakening and I'd had a crush on Anders since... well, since I first saw him, really . I think it's actually one of the reasons I bought DA2, actually, knowing I could romance him. So I just ignored all the 'DON'T!' signs and rolled my eyes at him saying he'd be bad in the long run, I mean c'mon Anders I'm the PC here I'll fight my way to a happy ending if need be.

It was a much more innocent time, the Act 1 of DA2.

I've followed a bunch of Anders-positive blogs recently and I'm warming a lot to his character again. I think he had potential to be fascinating. I like the fact that this thread is probably one of the few places I feel at ease talking about him because his storyline is very controversial.
 

I haven't played DA:2, since I kept hearing a lot of bad things about so I figured my money was better spent else where. But in the keep, I wanted Waffles Hawke to have an dramatic relationship with Anders, where he can't bring himself to kill Anders but refuses to go with him. But choosing not to go with him isn't in the Keep, so I chose Fenris and then switched him to sarcastic Hawke, since my god sarcastic Hawke is so much better. Now it sarcastic Hawke with Merrial, since she would more likely be the person I would actually romance if I played the game for real.
 
Dick could be a person name, like Dick Hawke. "Hello, my name is Dick Hawke. Nice to meet you."
 
The deeper meaning is that you all need to eat more chicken soup or die.

If DA2 is on sale, it's worth a play. I'd suggest not comparing it to Origins or DA:I, but assess it on its own merits.

I still hate the recurring backgrounds, though.
