*hugs*
god that sounds like a load of bullshit, I hope you're alright.
I think most people on the outside underestimate exactly how hard a degree is to complete, and exactly how stressful and difficult being a student can be, and I think you should be proud of yourself from getting this far. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long until the finish line now, even if you've been setback a bit?
Either way, I'm sending good vibes and best of wishes your way.
Thank you.
And yes it is really hard and it has not gotten easier since the bachelor and master were introduced. We used to have diploma and magister (that's what it's called ^^) that were easier to complete, since there was no set timeframe, now you are supposed to be done after 7 semesters. If you take too long to finish the credits start to expire, too. I don't think I could do courses and exams from first semester again (as in "there were too many, it would take too much time").
That sounds like a really sucky situation. Degrees are hard and they take so much energy to complete. You can always vent in here. I think I speak to the majority of us when saying we don't mind and we're here to listen.
So, a big internet hug to you if you want one.

Thanks, I gladly take the hug, who could say no to such a sweet kitty? ^^
I'd be angry, too, if I had my hopes and expectations dashed because a professor changed the terms of our agreement.
People only ask when you're done your studies to make conversation. Those who matter won't care when you finish (they only want to celebrate with you when you do) and those who do care (Judgy McJudgerpantses) don't matter. I have a learning disability, which made getting my degrees take longer than usual, but I still got them. I get to place the same letters after my name as everyone else. We don't all take the same path to get to the same destination.
You decided to go back and finish your degree after a significant time away, which tells me you are stronger than you think. You will get through this (Mala suledin nadas!) and when you get your degree, you should post a picture of yourself at your convocation. Maybe holding a golden nug...
Yeah maybe you are right about the thing why people ask when I will be done. For me it often comes across as judging why it takes so long but that may be because I judge myself too hard and am kind of ashamed that I don't get it done. And because of the reasons that I had to take a break, but that's nothing I usually talk about.
I'm the first in my family since quite a while who attends college, so I want everyone to be really proud of me, putting myself under more pressure.
Thanks for sharing your personal experience!
And I like your idea with the golden nug, just need to find one.
Edit:
Ugh, so annoying. I'm grateful that higher education is free here in Scandinavia, otherwise I would have been completely broke by now. I studied a total of 6 years to become a teacher, only to realize the hard way that there just weren't any jobs teaching my subjects. I managed to scrape along for 3 years working mostly as a special ed teacher, but they can not legally hire you long term unless you have a specific education for that. So this semester I made the tough decision to go back to the university, and now I will be studying in a completely different field altogether for the next 2 years. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I understand how hard it must feel for you to go back to college, and I too often try to avoid telling people that I'm studying. Feel free to rant about it, and I will keep my fingers crossed for you!
*snip*
Thanks for your support, too.
I can imagine that it isn't easy for you to start studying again, too. Hope it works out well!
Here in Germany we have to pay a semester fee, which isn't too much (about 250 Euro) and it includes the ticket for public transportation. At least where I study, I cannot say if this is standard or not. You can also get financial aid from the government, but that is limited to the standard period of study (7 semesters) and depends on the income of your parents. You have to pay back half of the money when you have a job after graduation. You get a discount if you pay it back all at once. So, no pressure there. *cough*
I asked one of my other professors if he would help me to get the missing credit points in time, which was not easy for me, and now I'm nervous what he might answer.
I can't even take my mind off things by playing something, cause I have to study for an exam in copyright law in three weeks. :/
