...Ah who am I kidding. I've hoped, wished and prayed for Solas to be a LI since he was announced (in all his Long Johns glory) so YEAH. His preference could've been tracheostomized Darkspawn and I would have rolled it*. LET'S DO THIS
*as long as it makes a super story sense, of course! 
I legit never realized how much I was betting on Solas being bisexual.
I'm hoping Solas being female elf only is not just for babies, that would be too boring in and of itself for such an interesting character imo.
After Gaider hyped us about trans characters, it would really suck if they picked a cissexist reason like that (that would invalidate trans headcanons).
I do have faith in the writers. I'm just jaded after so many characters that were like that.
And a case of, "I married young, she died/ran off/fell out of love, been on my own since" would be just fine. A case of, "I lost my ONE TWOO WUV and have been alone with my sadness boo-hoo" would make me set him on fire.

...I mean, I get being disappointed and all (I'm still crying about Cassandra, I'll die crying about Cassandra), but to not even recruit him at all because you can't romance him? That's a bit short-sighted, isn't it? He can still be a good friend and a powerful ally to your cause.

As for not recruiting him because you can't romance him... Yeah, that's a bit of an over reaction. Me, I'll do the mature thing and put him into my all mage team and watch Vivienne and Dorian excoriate him.

Sooooo, right now I'm pretty much looking at only Iron Bull for Companion romance. And Iron Bull is rather lasciviously staring right back at me. Oh, dear. 
This is my crazy idea, but Arthalan has been shown in concept art and Patrick Weekes has said that Solas is "devoted to finding the truth while paradoxically believing in myth". Perhaps Solas is seeking the resting place of the city to discover what secrets were lost when it sank?
Solas: So before we enter the city there's one minor obstacle we have to overcome.
Lavellan: This doesn't involve some weird-ass sex magic ritual does it?
Solas: (shocked) W-what?
Lavellan: You know, the place might be warded or swarming with Varterral that will go out of their way to kill anyone without ancient elven blood. I've got it, you might not, so we dance the horizontal Remigold with the help of some strange ritual and problem solved.
Solas: I just need to figure out how to open the door.
Lavellan: (deflated) Oh.
Solas: Not everything is that complicated.
Elsewhere, Morrigan and a Male Warden silently fist-bump, having sensed they've maintained their monopoly on such rituals...

I am out of likes but I am on the "I hope it's not babies" train.
Although the babies thing is a possibility, I'm sure if it is a factor, it will be more complicated than that. As an introvert and loner relationships are surely not top of Solas' agenda. As others have suggested, the dalish connection may be part of that story, a common interest may be just the extra that is needed for him to become involved.
I'm sorry for everyone who was hoping he was bi (I'm so surprised that he isn't). I was not that comfortable with the all elves are bi / gay so had been hoping that the bi option be Cullen but when he was announced as straight I just assumed and hoped Solas would be bi (I don't rate IB as much of an option - sorry 
)

I'm pretty disappointed you have to play such a specific character to romance Solas, but oh well. Still really want to romance him and will do so in my second or maybe third file. ^o^ I'm pretty excited. I guess it's better than if he wasn't an LI at all.

True, but I don't imagine any of the straight love interests are willing to be with someone from the opposite sex simply because of procreation, Solas included. It could be as simple as Solas being attracted to elven women.
How does that follow? Cullen being gated against elves would be strange.
Because overall, women who are interested in men have more options as it currently stands.
