If there's one thing I got out of this, it's that I'm glad female characters are getting more options for romance than men this time (for now)... even if it meant having to play as an elf.

Maybe we have to use reverse psychology?

Who is the least likely to be race garted?

Iron Bull, because of Elper's blood sweat and tears.

I wish everyone would not argue about this. Just a couple of hours ago, you guys were agonizing over finding out if Solas would be romanceable or not. And you've been agonizing since you found out that Solas was in the game. That has been a long time spent in suspense, anxiety, and ruminations.

Maybe the devs were afraid to announce Solas because of this negative reaction? I don't know. But at least the information is out there, and at least he is an option. They did warn us many months ago that the romances would not be fair. I wanted to romance Dorian as a female, but I will just have to be a male - and that is ok. I do sympathize with Solas fans who want to be a different gender or race with him. I do. I kinda wanted to romance him with a qunari.

But in the end - that's ok. I'm just glad we found out the information now, rather than later. It would have been a bigger disappointment to find out in-game. It would have been a huge trial and error too, causing some people to restart a game and make a whole new character (and not be very happy about that in the process).

I just remember this thread being so positive. And I know you guys will bounce back. It's just sad to see a lot of aggression and negativity spring up from a thread I've been lurking for months that has been nothing if not pleasant. :)

If Blackwall is an option for ladies too, you straight girls won the LI lottery. XD

Is that payback for ME3 lol

Adjusting...adjusting...

Solas: What are you doing sitting out here?

Inquisitor Kyriel: Cassandra says I can't sleep in the same bed with her anymore unless I start wearing shoes.

Solas: That's absurd. An elf needs full contact resonance with the energies-

Inquisitor Kyriel: I know, but she doesn't care!  What am I going to do?

Solas: *sits beside him*  I don't know what to say...  Except this is why I only date elven women.

Because overall, women who are interested in men have more options as it currently stands.

Sadly, I can't think of a single Bioware game where all monosexuals had equal options. People like to discount Sebastian but that's more personal taste than anything else.

I think they'll ensure that everyone has at least two options, but anything other than that is up in the air.

Really? Because you can't romance him you aren't even going to recruit him? Wow, over reaction just a tad?

You'd be missing out on a whole character and his story because you can't get into his pants.

I'd give you a like but I ran out! XD

Alright. I had planned to romance him with a female human mage on my first play through, but I guess I could play a Dalish. Maybe.

...Ah who am I kidding. I've hoped, wished and prayed for Solas to be a LI since he was announced (in all his Long Johns glory) so YEAH. His preference could've been tracheostomized Darkspawn and I would have rolled it*. LET'S DO THIS

*as long as it makes a super story sense, of course! ;)

I literally lol'ed over that darkspawn line and scared my mom's poodle. ^_^

Sorry for those who are disappointed D: *hugs*

For me personally I'm pretty happy over the news. Feels odd feeling happy for myself but sad for others :S not even upset if it's for kids but I HIGHLY doubt it is, otherwise I have a feeling he'd be available for all ladies. I feel guilty for feeling happy though ; ;

One of my good friends wanted him for a male LI too so that really sucks :(

Oh don't feel bad for being happy, you deserve it. It's still better than if he wasn't an LI at all! We can still make an elf girl for him if we really want him.

Come on. straight females had more LI's in general than gays and lesbians together. ME3 doesn't change anything.

Anybody else feel like they are in free fall? Cause I'm so....all over the place right now.

Can't like, so I'm quoting.

I feel like a broken record of bringing everyone down, so I'll probably say this and then divert my attention to upgrading my computer for the rest of the night:

The way these reveals have been handled have been so frustrating overall that even this one, which is legitimately good if only because it means Solas can be romanced, feels completely wrong. It throws off the sexuality balance, and it undermines a lot of assumptions that we've folded into our ongoing discussion, which could have been curbed months ago by somebody just saying something. It's the same deal as Varric's reveal, only slightly better maybe (I will never touch his romance if it hinges on procreation, for a million reasons) or Cullen and Cassandra's. Being disappointed about pixel romances is such a first world problem, yeah, but it's something that people get excited about, so letting fans run rampant with their incredibly wrong assumptions is...kinda crappy. It has been crappy over and over and over again and I hope that, for the sake of anyone still hopeful for Vivienne and Blackwall, that they put a decisive end to it soon.

I don't think it's fair either. And it's not how I'd prefer things (I'm still a huge fan of all bi/playersexuality). And I don't think ME3 justifies anything either, I was just joking (although it is kind of fair in an eye for an eye way). Maybe ME4 will have more balanced romance options.

Dropping in to say I'm sorry for the guys. I know how it feels. :(

And congrats to those who are happy. It's been a long wait. I'm glad it's almost over for good one way or another.

I'm with CatBlade on this one.  We're the thread of unicorns and BEEs!  Our thread got praised by the devs for being the fuzziest place in the BSN!  Disappointment always hurts, but let's stay positive! Solas being straight and for elves only doesn't stop anyone from enjoying having the character in the game, or experiencing his friendship.  And it doesn't mean that he can't be romanced, it just means rolling a different character.

I'm out of likes as well, so I'll quote. I agree with you entirely. The marketing in regards to LIs has been absolutely abysmal. It is frustrating to DA lovers to have information dispensed piecemeal like it has been over the past year. If they had simply gotten it out of the way months ago, then yes, people would have been hurt and sad, but by now the majority would have rallied and been prepared to play DAI. They sincerely ought to just tell us the last one now and save their fans from this serious anxiety. It is absolutely disgraceful in how they've dealt with this.

I have to agree that postponing the romance reveals felt... not very nice. And that's a weak way of putting it, on my part.

I don't want to say, "You should write a strongly worded letter..." but in a sense, maybe some of you should get together and express these feelings to an official Bioware email contact. I support this sentiment and I think most fans would like to know the love interests at the same time that the companions are revealed.

I hope this mysterious blog post gets posted soon.

Here fellow Solassians who may not have gotten what they want. Be it male inquizzy Solas love or a different race. Have an awkward hug.

tumblr_loe4qsDeL41qh8tqf.gif

I cannot contain my own happiness at my chosen first run through going as I planned. In reality I could log off the forums now, but 1. Too interested in the final LI for completions sake, and 2. So damn addictive.

sherlock2.gif

I also agree that the handling of the LI's this time around has been...Well, awful to put it in nicer terms. I know it is an optional part, but it still deserves decent marketing.

I think it's alright if people get some upset feelings and frustration out of the way for a while. All in all, we're still being incredibly tame about this and not once has anyone said something bad against the devs. Can't expect everyone to bounce back so quickly after this shocking news!

Given the emotional investment fans place on a Bioware game even before release, I think it's impossible for them to avoid disappointing people as information is revealed.

I wish I could like this a million times over. I hope they handle the romance reveals better in the future. Dragging things out only cause harm, people get their hopes up and then they're crushed when the truth finally drops. Yes, the romances are only a small part of the game. Yes they are completely optional but people care a lot about them. They are important for a lot of fans, and it's not ok to play with our emotions. I doubt it's intentional from the devs, but it's what happened. Get it over with early on, it's a win-win. The fans know their options and can prepare, the devs won't get bombarded with the same romance questions over and over again.

I look at it this way, I'm going to do more than one play through. I wasn't really planning on playing as an elf, partially because of bad memories of the Thalmor and that jerk of an archeologist Calcelmo. But now, why not give it a try?

Okay, I'm going to bed now. I knew people would come in here even though their not interested him and just say their piece. I'm happy and I'm coming back tommorrow so we can finally all just be happy we got a confirmation. I know it stings that he isn't romancable by males. (I felt that with Cassandra and Dorian, but I just took the info and was happy for the people who could romance them)

We all knew from the beginning that they weren't putting sexualities just to balance it out. Again Bioware knows what they are doing and sorry if you are one of the peeps who won't be able to romance Solas with your chosen character, but hey you can still romance him with a female elf if you want. I know I will make characters for Cassandra and Dorian when I feel like it. Al righty . Night my fellow Solas thread villagers (BEEs)  ^_^  <3

It's not about not wanting to play as another gender or race.

It is about uneven number of romance options for gay guys (if the last LI ends up being Vivienne).

Or conversely uneven number of romance options for straight guys (if the last LI ends up being Blackwall).  *A considerably less likely scenario*

Of course, Vivienne or Blackwall's sexuality will also throw things off further if he or she is also not Bisexual.
