honestly, whatever they are is not what's really bothering me. The fact that Solas probably has close ties to the DOOM OF THE WORLD that is basically an apocalypse waiting to happen is just ... so terrifying to me. 

 

I wish he was still that awkward hobo who I partially was annoyed by because of his stand-offish attitude, but eventually went crazy for because I love me some nerdy conversation. I wish he was still just ... Solas. His connections to everything horrible and world-shattering really bums me out whenever I think about it, and finding out about the mural room just made my feel even worse. 

 

Ugh.

if it helps....if Solas did nothing, at best   everyone would be a slave to these evanuris. At worst, everyone would be dead. So he kind of had to act, to not act at all would make him as guilty as the "false gods"

He's still a good hobo elf, he's just put in an impossible situation...and made mistakes.

I'm one of those solas fans who hated watching him in his god outfit during Trespasser. I hated watching him be so resigned and ... cold. I couldn't stand it. Even now, I'm still bothered by seeing him in his shiny Fen'Harel armor. He's not truly Fen'Harel, he's Solas. He should be in ratty pants and weird sweaters, not shiny god armor. 

 

He should be nerding out in the fade, not leading an army to end the world. 

 

I just want him to be Solas, not Fen'Harel or the one responsible for the end of everything (his world as well as the Inquisitor's) 

 

I just ... ugh. Want him to be happy I guess

That would just make him the standard trickster scumbag the Dalish always made him out to be, which would be such a cop out, and a massive disappointment. Though I am a sucker for tragic figures who make their own problems infinitely worse, he's too interesting to squander as a straight villain.

Yes I want my Fade nerd back too. Why can't you just stop Solas?  Empires rise and fall. Sometimes they are replaced with something better, sometimes not, but nothing lasts forever. Find joy in the now and quit worrying about the past!

 

I actually think it's going to turn out Solas was a pawn in all of this, but he had no idea. 

 

The way he says, "I am no one's agent but my own." I've no proof but I think that line's there to be misleading and make it even more ironic when we find out eventually that the Rebel who sacrificed everything to free his people was never truly free.

Yep, me too. Neither of you are alone on that one. To me, solas is resigned, he's doing what he needs to do, he says "posturing is necessary", so he puts on the outfit. He looks the part. But he also appreciated the ability to just be Solas again while with The Inquisition, even as he was planning.

 

I was really glad that we got the "I was Solas first" line, because him being Solas means a lot.

He wears it well, but it also makes me kind of sad because of what it means.

 

Remember that the murals, the self-portraits of Fen'Harel, show him in a humble robe and modest clothing. If that's how he sees himself, that is significant.

One final bit of fluff before bedtime, to celebrate our FORUM DOMINANCE  Not sure how much further I'll take the crazytrain, but here's the conclusion of the Shakespeare date

Lavellan laughed and dropped a tip into Banquo's bloody ghost sheet.  He grinned, bowed to her, and hopped over the bench into the next row. The crowd was pushing down the main aisle in droves, so she stayed seated, waiting for them to thin out.

 

"Not as highbrow as you were hoping?" she asked Solas.  

 
"On the contrary.  Shakespeare's plays were written for all levels of society.  Power, intrigue, danger, and sex have always been staples of our entertainment."  Solas picked at the droplet of fake blood staining his collar.  "Though I could have done without the duel in the aisles."
 
Without thinking, she caught his hand and pulled it away from his sweater.  "Stop.  You're rubbing the stain in."
 
Solas curled his fingers around hers.  The light from the stage glinted in his eyes.
 
"And?" he murmured.  
 
"And," she said, trying and failing to control her giddy smile, "I get coffee stains off of the newbies all the time.  Hold still, smooth guy."

 

It took longer than she'd like to admit, fishing around in her purse one-handed.  But eventually, she came up with the little bottle of cleaning spray.  "Hand me your napkin."

 

He didn't let go of her hand.  If anything, he pulled her closer and made a show of fumbling for the napkin.  Lavellan found herself wishing she'd hopped in the shower before heading out; her hair probably still smelled of coffee.

 

When she moved to take the napkin from him, Solas caught her other hand.  "Too easy," he laughed.

 

"Insufferable.  Maybe I should drag you on stage and dunk you in the stuff."

 

Solas didn't even miss a beat.  "If it means you'll continue to fuss over my clothes?  I can hardly object."

 

As Sera sometimes said, "Just kick him in the bits."  Metaphorically speaking.  Before he even had time to blink, Lavellan leaned forward and brushed her lips against his cheek.  A light, chaste kiss but for her breath lingering on his skin.

 

She thought he would let go of her, or at least freeze, but he turned his face.  Their lips met, and somewhere in the back of her stunned mind, she had to admit that Solas gave as good as he got.  He didn't linger, didn't press, barely ghosted his tongue over her mouth before pulling back.  

 

He tasted like cupcake frosting.

 

"Well..." he whispered, releasing her hands.  He looked as surprised as she felt.  "I--ah--"

 

"Yeah."  

 

Their laughter was nervous this time, each watching the other, waiting for rejection and finding only their own reflections.

 

Lavellan was the first to snap out of it.  The park had almost emptied while they'd been talking.  "Soak the collar in some baking soda paste, and the fake blood will come right out," she said.  "I guess I'll see you on Monday?"

 

"Monday?"

 

"I work mornings.  You and your bitchy friend usually stop by."

 

"Vivienne is not my friend," he said quickly.

 

"Good.  I wouldn't be friends with someone who dumps out anything that isn't cold-press."  She got to her feet, but Solas caught her elbow.

 

"Wait. Don't go."  

 

Now there was definitely a note of desperation in his voice.  "I...still don't know your name."

 

Lavellan hesitated, teetering on the edge.  It wasn't a big secret or anything, and if he really wanted to know, he could just look her up on the employee schedule outside the break room.  But she'd so enjoyed their little game that she couldn't help dragging it out a bit longer.

 

"Have you decided if you like mystery yet?" she asked.

 

Solas froze, and for one heart-stopping moment, she thought she'd pushed too far.  That he'd say no.  But then he relaxed and gave her arm a squeeze.

 

"You know," he said thoughtfully, "I think I do."
