I wish I could like this a million times over. I hope they handle the romance reveals better in the future. Dragging things out only cause harm, people get their hopes up and then they're crushed when the truth finally drops. Yes, the romances are only a small part of the game. Yes they are completely optional but people care a lot about them. They are important for a lot of fans, and it's not ok to play with our emotions. I doubt it's intentional from the devs, but it's what happened. Get it over with early on, it's a win-win. The fans know their options and can prepare, the devs won't get bombarded with the same romance questions over and over again. 

Actually, that would be a really good reason to announce them early. It's not a major spoiler and the disappointment would be a lot less intense if we got to know the characters' romance potential before we know their personality. People got attached and got their hopes crushed. That just sucks.

I'm so happy, I am late to the party, but I just saw the news on twitter. I'm sad he's female only though.

But I'm so excited to hear he IS a romance! Gonna have me some fun. ;p

It does if he's actually an ancient elf (Along with possibly Felassan and possibly the DAI antagonist). The notes of Arl Foreshadow give some credence to the idea, if you don't believe me.

We know the ideas for DAI were around during Origins' development (Indeed, DAII grew out of the need for a bridging story apparently), so its something to think about.

You know what? Saying things like that is not helping. Keep it to yourself instead and leave them alone. Give them some time to process the info and have some damn compassion.

I'm disappointed, but I'm not angry. It was my fault getting too invested. Now, I'll just hope his friendship arc is as interesting and fulfilling (will he be my best friend, for example? A mentor? A brother?).

 

I'm not willing to change the character I want to play just to have the (only) romance option I was hoping for. The romance is a relatively small, and optional, portion of the game.

 

I know people are going to suggest another playthrough, but I'll be honest, a game this long makes it unlikely I'll play more than once (at least not without waiting a long time in between, then we'll see).

 

Still looking forward to the game, just not as much today. Happy for the people who got what they wanted though! I'm a little jealous, haha.

I'm not sure about the kids thing even though I uncomfortably speculated about that and him being straight very shortly, but every time I think about the elven babies thing now I think that it might be too easy of an explanation. Mark Darrah hinted that there's a VERY interesting reason that makes super story sense behind it, and I doubt that they'd throw it on the "I want to make sure than the elven race continues to exist", it's just.. too simple, at least that's what my gut is telling me 

 

It's definitely more complicated than that, am I right?

 

I wish everyone would not argue about this. Just a couple of hours ago, you guys were agonizing over finding out if Solas would be romanceable or not. And you've been agonizing since you found out that Solas was in the game. That has been a long time spent in suspense, anxiety, and ruminations. 

 

Maybe the devs were afraid to announce Solas because of this negative reaction? I don't know. But at least the information is out there, and at least he is an option. They did warn us many months ago that the romances would not be fair. I wanted to romance Dorian as a female, but I will just have to be a male - and that is ok. I do sympathize with Solas fans who want to be a different gender or race with him. I do. I kinda wanted to romance him with a qunari. 

 

But in the end - that's ok. I'm just glad we found out the information now, rather than later. It would have been a bigger disappointment to find out in-game. It would have been a huge trial and error too, causing some people to restart a game and make a whole new character (and not be very happy about that in the process). 

 

I just remember this thread being so positive. And I know you guys will bounce back. It's just sad to see a lot of aggression and negativity spring up from a thread I've been lurking for months that has been nothing if not pleasant.

I cannot contain my own happiness at my chosen first run through going as I planned. In reality I could log off the forums now, but 1. Too interested in the final LI for completions sake, and 2. So damn addictive.



I also agree that the handling of the LI's this time around has been...Well, awful to put it in nicer terms. I know it is an optional part, but it still deserves decent marketing.

I respect your opinion but then wonder why you bothered to post it in here. I'm not sure what kind of reaction you were expecting to this. 

 

It makes me wonder why you venture into character threads where people are obviously going to be upset if it bothers you so much. Is it just to make snide comments at fans? That seems a little silly, don't you think?

I don't think there's a wrong way to express disappointment, so long as you're not threatening violence or harassing people.

So I get seven hours of sleep and wake up to this nightmare!? I actually never realized just how much I wanted Solas to be bi until this moment lol. Oh well, I just find him interesting and now that I think back on it I've never created a elven female. This is as good a reason to do so now I suppose. Solas male on male action would have been amazing imo but ill save my second play through with my Dalish male mage now to romance the Bull. Dorian comes first with human mage XD.

People like you are the worst and a reason I'd be all for it if the entire romance aspect was scrapped from future Bioware games.

 

I don't see why. I wanted Cassandra to be my staple tank but now that I know I wont be able to romance her I probably wont want her around that much. Not because I dislike her character now, but just because it will be eternally frustrating having to watch her face with those perfect cheekbones and knowing she doesn't and will never play for my team, lol. It's just self defense to prevent feeling like further crap.
