New River Gorge in West Virginia.... Bridge Day.

Well, I've walked this Bridge at one point (Royal Gorge):
Spoiler
... so you can imagine how my brain screamed when it saw the precipice between wooden planks I was walking on
IIn your place, you'd see me clinging to the edge of one side, refusing to go any further.
I guess I should say that when I was around 7 or 8, I began to have a series of recurrent nightmares about my parents driving or falling or somehow going off of a local bridge into the Atlantic. Sometimes it took other forms, like the subway getting knocked off the bridge into the water. But it was often a very similar course. I'm not sure when those finally stopped. I had a second type of recurrent nightmare as a kid too.
I thought I wasn't afraid of heights. And then I went ziplining for my boyfriend's birthday.
Turns out, being 300 feet in the air going fairly fast is really scary
We were on the zipline course for about five hours, and I felt fine at the time. Nervous, but ok. I wake up the next morning, and EVERYTHING hurt. Every goddamn muscle. I'd been so freaked out (but not consciously) that I'd been tensing every muscle for five hours the previous day.
Well I totally decided to waltz in here at the right time. The last 3 pages had me highly entertained. This is the best thread~

Personally I don't like driving over bridges. but I don't mind walking on them. My brother tried to get me to bungie jump off that bridge.Sorry, can't do it, but i'll climb a rock face and repel off....lol

It is the Blanket Fort.
The glittering gem among the sands of the internet.

I'm more okay with going over a bridge in a car now, but due to those dreams it terrified me for a long time. But the thing is, I'm not in cars often since I don't drive. I've never learned and don't have a license. I can't tell if I'm just anxious or have a driving phobia but given where I live, I can get around and it's only bothersome once in a while.
Ugh if I write about Best Elf then I end up with a sad Wolf.

I'm the same about bridges. I hate driving over them, but walking on them is fine.
I'm really scared of heights. I've gotten better over time. I live in a two story house. I used to not be able to look over the railing without getting nervous but I can do it now.
You couldn't pay me enough to go bungee jumping or ziplining. :-P
Is this the moment to say I went sky diving once? And almost passed out on the poor instructor I was jumping tandem with. And he was asking again and again if I was going to be sick (no, thank god) as it's happened to him before and you can all imagine the result mid-jump.

oops
My brother Kites. He tried it near here and went off the cliff and about 10 ft out the wind just stopped. He landed on his tailbone hard, would have been worse but just before he landed the wind caught his kite enough to slow him and prevent any broken bones. He left an ass print in the dirt road though
and yes I laughed at him.

It is! I disappeared for a bit while I played through some of my game backlog. I know I'll be gone in November for Fallout 4 but no matter what I always come back. This blanket fort will stand strong until we catch the Dread Wolf! /mostly

Oh dear..
I couldn't, worst I've ever done is jumping from a 10 meter diving board (32ft for the Imperials).

the big problem was the harness compressing the major artery in my inner thighs. Brought on low blood pressure and that'S why I almost passed out. The instructor helped by allowing me to stand on his feet for a few moments to relieve the pressure. He was still worried I was going to hurl though. Poor guy.

Did you at least mostly enjoy it?
That's one thing I'd never do.
And I found some relevance on Wikipedia
One of the most common sources of injury is a low turn under a high-performance canopy and while swooping. Swooping is the advanced discipline of gliding at high speed parallel to the ground during landing.
Apparently swooping IS bad.

That's still quite far. I don't think I could do it, even if I was landing in water. I'm not a fan of free repelling either, had to do that out of the Gym roof in high-school. It was three stories and we had to climb the top set of bleachers, crawl out far enough not to hit the rows of bleachers and then drop straight down.
Thankfully I didn't have to climb a rope for the same class, I've never gotten the hang of climbing a rope

My boyfriend went skydiving during a bachelor party and apparently was so freaked out he almost went into shock right before they landed. I think I'll pass...

It was... interesting. The weather was beautiful and you definitely get a view unlike anything else. Because of the whole "almost passing out from low blood pressure" though, I probably wouldn't try again.

Yeeeah, I'm already prone to symptomatic low blood pressure episodes just here on the ground (greyouts, passing out or almost). Not that I'd ever even think about going skydiving. But this sort of possibility definitely reinforces that decision.
I am still out of likes, everyone gets love instead

There's a reason why it's much easier to condition fear of heights, spiders, and snakes than, say fear of lawnchairs. Evolution worked that one out for us quite a while ago, and I'm ok with trusting evolution on this one.
And just an aside, If someone is about to pass out and they're not going to hit something, please let them. I passed out at the doctor's office once and they used smelling salts to stop my faint late and that was traumatic because now I remember the entire thing. ![]()
