Question for the writers here.
Dialogues.
I so struggle with them. How do you write believable, flowing dialogues, and not slip ooc for respective people?
I've been hanging on hte last chapter second day now, just staring at the talk. It - is - not - flowing. It's bony. Unnatural. And often very ooc.

I'm no expert, but here's my normal process:
1) Write out the conversation without any tags at first to get the gist of where you want the conversation to go, just the words as you hear them in your head without bothering with the 'he said', 'she replied' or movements.
2) Once you've got a rough-ish idea of where you're going, reread it from one character's perspective and fix it up so that it sounds like them and makes sense for their motivations.
3) Repeat step 2 for every other speaking character.
4) Add in tags and movements and extra bits.
It can be time consuming and I only bother with important or longer conversations, but I've found it a pretty good way of having characters sound like themselves. It can sometimes interrupt the rhythm of dialogue though, so you have to be careful about going overboard with tags and character thoughts.
Hope that helps
