iirc there was a little lore snippet on some official infographic that was released on one of the usual channels that said something like elves are hardy or more adaptable to harsh climates than other races or something vaguely along those lines. can't remember specifics or links etc. but I always thought of that when it came to bare feet plus the cold.

I like to think that they're all part hobbit, with lush furry feet to keep them warm. But that also leads to imagery of plump and cosy Dalish with striped waistcoats, smoking pipes, and oceans of comfort food.

^ this would actually make the dalish even more awesome, I endorse this dalish-hobbit headcanon.

It's about that here if I'm converting right, and I'm not ready for this. :(

New York weather can be rather odd. It was 70 (around 20C) days ago. Last December, just after Christmas, I went to see Into the Woods in a short dress with boots, nothing on my legs, and my coat on, but fully open. It was only a few hours later, after playing tourist in Manhattan I began to get the slightest bit cold.

NY cold sucks because of the wind. It's always very windy if I'm there in winter.

My friend is from the Calgary area, and she now lives in southern California. I think she likes that climate better.

I've been in this temperate city most of my life, except for a couple of summer trips to Puerto Rico, but the cold still always bothers me. I am queen of the weird symptoms because I used to break out in hives from the cold. Luckily, that hasn't happened in more than a decade, but now I sometimes get Raynaud's episodes.

I'm not very elfy or cold hardy. :P

If there are a lot of tall structures around, the wind tunnel effect can be pretty bad. But we almost always tend to have at least one unseasonably warm spell every winter.  It has been 65 in December, 80 in February, but our last two winters were so cold and snowy.

Our weather here has been up and down too.  22C one day, next day -4C.  Something like that.  It's actually really warm for October so far.  Our coldest day this week is going to be 6C.  Today it was 17C.  Normally our winter starts on Halloween.  In the 15 years I've been up here in this city, I can count on a couple of fingers how many times it didn't snow on Halloween.

The brief six months I was able to live with my fiance in SoCal, the warm and snowless winter was so weird for me.  He'd be cold and wearing a jacket and I'd be in a tshirt going man I can't believe how warm it is!  He thought I was bonkers because he was shivering!  lol

My dad is from Puerto Rico, moved to NY as a kid, then eventually moved to the Miami area, where he lost all tolerance for anything below the equivalent of 18/20C. He left there and is still in the south, but whenever he visits up here, he has no cold tolerance left, even though he grew up here.

I'm from Arkansas......and now I'm in Quebec.

I am so not used to winter here yet. I don't think I ever will be. And I'm in Southern Quebec. I can't imagine farther north.

Or consuming deep mushroom :D

My father sent me some... healthfood mushroom... coffee... stuff.... to try. Best I can tell it's got a variety of fungus powdered up and mixed with instant coffee granules. It tastes about what you can expect, so now when I see deep mushrooms I automatically associate it and the taste of the coffee together. And going by that, no one would ever seriously want deep mushrooms outside of starvation or serious self-hatred.

I was born in a tiny little town in Northern Quebec.  We have a picture of my Dad's dog when he was a teen in snow over her head in the middle of June!  She was a Golden Retriever, so not a small dog.  Northern Quebec is even colder than where I live right now from what my parents have told me.

About 4 years, but most of last year I was back in the south visiting family.

Leliana: “I would avoid the dark ones topped with gold dust. Deep mushroom and anise.”
Leliana: “An awful combination, but it’s quite popular in Val Royeaux. I believe they call it 'The Exquisite Misery.’”
Leliana: “Orlais. Why did we save her again?”

My dad has another daughter from his second marriage, and my little sister is growing up in the south, so her cold tolerance is pretty much like our dad's. The two of them, when visiting here, both require their coats early. I haven't seen them in some time. This year has been rough with work cutbacks.
