I was born in a tiny little town in Northern Quebec.  We have a picture of my Dad's dog when he was a teen in snow over her head in the middle of June!  She was a Golden Retriever, so not a small dog.  Northern Quebec is even colder than where I live right now from what my parents have told me.

Oh? Where in Northern Quebec? I live in the Abitibi region for a few years (which isn't that far north all things considered, but still, it was cold as balls in winter.). I'm glad I moved.

I finally finished the Venatori image, took me about 21 hours, done in about 2 days. My first full body (almost) image! He kinda looks like an Altmer .

Spoiler

It's kinda funny looking but I had fun with the lighting at least :wizard:.

It was a town called Schefferville.  After the coal mine shut down years ago, the town closed.  I think they reopened it a few years ago?  My Dad and his family lived there for 15 years.  I was a baby when my parents left.  They have a reunion for the town every year in a different city in Canada.

I'm no expert but I think you did a great job with the lighting, especially because you had both ambient lighting and a whole other source from the flame. It looks great.

Oh yeah, I know of that place, although I've never been there :) My dad worked there for a few summer as a student, which is why I've heard of it. Your parents REALLY were north, much farther north than me. Man, I couldn't take the nights lasting almost 24 hours in winter...

Thanks Cee, I appreciate that <3. It was hard to see what I was doing in the shaded areas because it's so dark.

I work (paid employment) in an animal shelter. Rescue, strays, rehoming/adoption. I've also previously worked in various similar places like different sanctuaries/charities, petshop, a ranch and a vet's etc.

-snip-

You have to be so at peace with poop and being dirty. Like. Many animals in one place means literal heaps of poop. Poop as far as the eye can see. I have so many stories involving poop. There are so many different KINDS of poop. I didn't realize how many before I got into this line of work, LOL.

True story. I used to volunteer at a small zoo and woooow, cleaning monkey sanctuaries is not fun. Or getting smacked on the head by the alpha male, though I had that one coming for entering his territory . He was half my size but still fearsome..

ugh it's currently 10C here and it's still way too cold how do you cold weather people deal with it -20 is beyond my imagination :(

I used to live in Minnesota.  Then I left for southern California, and I haven't been back.

If it's any consolation to those of you living in cold places, we'll probably all die of drought and/or flash flood sometime in the next decade or so.  At least you actually get moisture from the sky

My husband just casually decided he wants to write a fic too, came up with an outline, and typed up the first chapter in about 3 hours totall.

I'm intimidated. Also, what have I done to our family?

Um, added ten AWESOME POINTS.  That's what :D

Although...I get it.  I'd be a little weirded out of my boyfriend who teases me over Solavellan hell started writing, say, WoW fanfiction.

Mine used to write, years ago. In fact, it was one of the things I was initially drawn by -  his creativity, and his great character stories. We met via MMO, back when he actually cared about RP. He stopped not long afterward, and that was that.

It's not the writing that weirds me out but how we are now mentally in Thedas most of the time. And I thought it was bad when we were both really into FMA.

My boyfriend and I met playing D&D :P

He doesn't write fiction, but he's a great character roleplayer in tabletop, and does some hilarious voice impressions.  And he's been my writing partner for a few large-scale convention adventures.

The MMO thing was 'strange' to some people years back but now,  pretty much everyone knows someone who met similarly. Technically, we met on the game forum.

At least among the Los Angeles crowd, D&D tends to be an older age group than ours.  30s-40s.  And the gender ratio is incredibly unbalanced.  At a monthly gameday of several dozen players, I can count on one hand the number of girls.  So normal people give us the "WTF" reaction, and other tabletop people give my boyfriend the "YOU LUCKY BASTARD" reaction

But everyone's very friendly.  The stereotype of tabletop gamers being social morons certainly holds true for some.  But if you have to sit around a table for four hours while the GM is throwing dragons and weird magical earth motes and cultists at you, you usually pick up some social skills.

I'm from Arkansas......and now I'm in Quebec.

I am so not used to winter here yet. I don't think I ever will be. And I'm in Southern Quebec. I can't imagine farther north.

You guys are so adorable with your husbands and how cool they are about your nerdiness!

Minus the internet I don't have anyone to talk to about my love of nerdy crap like rpgs, comics, anime, and my fantasy books! My brothers play completely different genres of video games, my little sister is too young to watch and read the stuff I do, and my friends just aren't interested in that kind of stuff... -.- . I have my group of friends that are spending their youth as stereotypically as possible (partying and being reckless and self-indulgent) and my smaller group of innocent little bible thumpers. How I have managed to wedge myself in between two completely contrasting friend groups I do not know, but it is frustrating. They're all good people, but our conversations always seem so shallow. Like there's a whole side of me they don't know! I suppose that's what being online is all about though. I can reach out to fellow nerds and finally be able to talk about my nerdy inclinations.
