You've just made a terrible mistake. :D

Let's see:

Can I convince you to add the Italian renaissance to that already magnificent list? DaVinci and Machiavelli once teamed up to try and steal a river! They're real life super villains who also happen to be philosophers, poets, inventors, painters, and freaking revolutionaries! They make batman look lazy and inept.

Sorry, my history nerd is showing.

... Well at least you have family members who play games - in my case, aside form my young cousin who visits us from US every summer (and he's mostly into shooters and stuff, not lame big RPGs, platformers or adventure games), nobody plays games or even does much Internet-y stuff (or artsy. Or comick-y. And very limited in case of fantasy-ish, as in - reading a couple of books)... So I get weird looks all the time. Or people just barge in into my room, talking and distracting me, and look seriously baffled or annoyed when I say "hey, I told you I'm playing some MMO with a few friends, I can't drop everything and tend to your stuff in the middle of the raid/session/whatever'.

Obviously for them, people on the other side of the screen are gremlins :P

Yeah, I am grateful for my younger siblings' interest in such stuff, even if it isn't specifically what I like. At least they don't judge me for my nerdiness the way my parents or older sisters do, or my friends would.

My little sister was watching Durarara!! (don't judge it by its name!) today on Netflix and one character drops the s-word a few times and my dad comes in and tells her to turn that Japanese cartoon sh*t off because it isn't appropriate (my under 5 niece and nephews were running around the house). Now if she was watching a live action TV show it would of been perfectly fine, but since it's animated it is intentionally drawing children in to corrupt their young minds. -.- such poo, and then my brother goes and turns on the Walking Dead, but that's perfectly fine. -.- poo.

BioWare loves brutally taking my men from me and preventing me from being with the women I love in the first place (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

LOL

Tamlen's death was sad :(

I always loved you lethallan.

That definietly did not make me cry... nope. I didn't...

I repeatedly talked to my mother and paused just long enough for her to unpause Law and Order to demonstrate just how annoying barging in on Knights of the Old Republic is. I haven't had trouble with these issues for a few years now.

Except with Inquisition. When my fiance and I were playing that the first time through, they always managed to barge in at the worst times.

You know that really impressive entrance Coryfish has at the end of In Your Heart Shall Burn? With the fire and the dragon and the booming voice? It's actually a lot cooler when you didn't see Corypheus at the start of the mission, just a quick glimpse of Samson before your head snapped around to witness someone falling down the stairs. I was shocked to see that he's revealed at the beginning on the next playthrough.  :o

I'm the only one out of my mom and younger siblings with an Xbox live account (because I'm the only one out of the siblings that can afford it) so when my mom signed up for Netflix I offered anyone to use my account to watch Netflix, as long as they got off if I was already on. One night I'm getting all prepared to fight a dragon and I get signed out... so I sign back in, and then get kicked out again. So then after calling my brother and one of my sisters and realizing it wasn't them I called my mother and I tried explain to her that I was playing and she was arguing that she was paying for the account and she never uses Netflix I'm to get off for the night. I explain that they xbox account is mine and she can watch Netflix on another device, but no, she wants the big screen. End so a sign out sign in war ensues (my brown nosing youngest sister's doing on her behalf). I won when I put a password on my account, but the situation had me so peeved off that it put me out of the dragon slaying mood!

Family -.-

This kind of talk made me go back through my posts about my father (who is Best Dad and dutifully listens to my non-stop video game stream-of-consciousness) where Solas was concerned.

7 months ago: i told the story of solavellan to my dad over lunch today

his opinion: “sounds like its going to end in tears”

1 month ago when I excitedly informed him of the upcoming release of Trespasser (dlc relevant to the story I'd told him that time):

tumblr_nuchkjG6c51r5f630o1_500.png

about a week after Trespasser had dropped:

tumblr_nuj2b06MoG1r5f630o1_500.jpg

Your dad sounds so cool!

Ahh all the interruptions, Makes me glad my house has gaming rules, especially for when things first get released. Other people in the house get a week's warning minimum that on this day they may NOT interrupt the gamer at all. This was awesome rule for me when Trespasser was released, 12 hours of uninterrupted gaming through the DLC 1 and a bit times. So awesome, but it only works if everyone in the house.. all 2 of us.. play video games lol. My boyfriend and I have other house rules based on gaming. My parents think I'm wacko and need help, because they think since I have a kid I should never , ever play video games but sit watching boring tv shows all day instead. My kid, for the record, loves sitting on my lap smashing random buttons while I play.

Uh, that sounds so great. It's a struggle to the death for computer/xbox/TV rights wherever I am. I couch hopping between my mom's, dad's, and sisters' places. Both of my sisters have young children of their own and TV shuts them up so I'm usually willing to give up any system for them (not to mention the littler monsters like to push the glowing green button whilst I'm playing). My mom's place has my three youngest siblings who are bratty demons whom I do not like to spend my time arguing with, and my dad's place has my "spends his life online brother" and my oldest couch hopping himself brother to contend with. The only reason I get this computer is because it's in the basement and it is friggin freezing down here!

My dad joined Twitter not long ago and is following me, so now I'm like...do I censor?...my dad is watching. I haven't....but I still think about my dad following when I post.

I decided to take a nice, relaxing shower, and I don't know if it's because I'm currently fighting a cold, but I just had one of my low blood pressure episodes and felt all ill and faint, so I had to rinse my hair and get enough cool air to buy time to get myself out and to the couch. Where I am now recovering with you all.

I should probably drink more tea in a few minutes.

Goodness, sit, rest, drink tea and move slowly!

That happened to me once that when the water was too warm and there was too much steam in the air. I don't do sauna's either for that reason.

I did that same for the Knights of the Old Republic. I remember writing fanfiction of the sequel during high school and being so ashamed that I shredded it. I actually made a point of not getting into any new games and abandoned fantasy as a whole until I stumbled across DA:O on Steam. These days I shamelessly spend stupid amounts of money on games and time on fanfiction and nobody shall stop me. But I can absolutely sympathise with the 'you need a boyfriend!' stuff. Why do people think that gaming is some kind of replacement? When I want a boyfriend I'll jolly well get one, but if that means giving up all my favourite hobbies again then I am happier single.

I love Italian history, especially the early renaissance. Reading about Caterina Sforza is what got me through a really dark patch in my life, (that woman was a damn tank masquerading as a beautiful Countess. Seriously, Machiavelli was scared of her.)  Solas would definitely approve of the political wheeling and dealing :D It's like a more emotionally volatile Orlais, but with more murder!

Preach it!

I like learning about the renaissance! Although I've never heard of Caterina (beautiful name is beautiful) Sforza. I'll have to look her up! My own historical loves mostly come from the Roman empire. I could sing praise to Hannibal Barca's and Alexander the Great's military genius all day! I'm also deeply in love with the great philosophers! Any history is interesting history though!

That's the Kiwi spirit !

For any that wonder why we refer to ourselves as fruits.. a Kiwi is NZer, named after our native bird ;):

History nerds FTW!

A lovely list Caddius! I'm so proud of myself for knowing of so many of those!

Might I recommend the great and underrated South American Empires?

I also have a grim fascination with the effects of colonization on indigenous cultures. So interesting and so horrifying at the same time! And I think South American culture and history is so often overlooked by the greater Eurocentric world.

I just got up to make tea and I feel mostly okay now. I've been dealing with these since I was about 16, so I tend to usually be able to manage and prevent or read the signs before it gets bad, but I think being sick just added to the effect. It was one of the worst since I've been living alone, so it was a bit scary.

Machiavelli is amazing. I read The Prince in Uni and have never looked at politics, or history, the same way.

Fair enough, Rome is like the epic saga that never ends. And I have a soft spot for Alexander the ever so Great too, I spend months going over his battle plans for Gaugamela, long after I'd already gotten the credits for that paper.

Ever looked at classical Greek stuff? I started reading ancient Greek comedies when my granddad left me with a tone of old books, and they are hilarious. Aristophanes was biting cynical and crass in a way that Monty Python could only dream of.

I actually just wrote a paper on Ancient Greek Cynicism :) I tend to enjoy learning about religions, mythologies, and philosophies throughout history and how they effected their society, or were effected by their society as it may be. But I admire the clever and the eccentric above all (probably a big part of my love for Solas). I haven't read any of Aristophanes' comedies, but I'm always willing to read new things that others highly recommend!

It can be pretty crass, don't know if that's your thing, but also very poignant in its own way. I'd recommend the Frogs, if you're interested.

The land of Middle Earth ;). Those ferns it's standing on are the reason my name has 'Fern' in it, I grew up with them (or something similar) around the house and really like them.

It does look quite pretty down there. I'd love to see it someday (someone I know was just in NZ a few days ago and is in Australia right now), but for the moment, my world travel is limited to playing Geoguessr.

Also I just agreed to collaborate with him on the fic. Can't let him ruin all the Solas bits

Solas definitely does seem hard to write for, I think hes probably the hardest of all the DAI characters except Zombie Leliana

What kind of ferns are they? I haven't traveled much yet, but the differences in foliage and animals from region to region fascinates me. I was in Honduras this past February and there were ferns (maybe it was a grass?) that shriveled up when you touched them. The world is full of wonders! *.*

This might lead me to a rant about fantasy always having to take place in the same medievalish western Europeanish setting... I can't wait for Tevinter, but I hope we get to travel to Seheron in the next game too!
