I'm sorry for being off topic but I'm curious. Do most of you pick the romance and then create your character to match? I was wondering about that because I see the bolded part a lot. I create my character first (their race, gender, character ect.) and then I see if there is a romance that would match them.
I tend to do a bit of both, I guess? With DAI I have only the vaguest outlines of characters (race, class, possible romance) but things like their personality and actual confirmed romance will be decided when I play the game and know how I want to play the character.

You know, if we take our expectations off and try to view our followers as actual people in a world with their own personalities, own idiosyncrasies and own quirk, we would see that it does not make any sense for them to have love and romantic choices that caters to us or rather, caters to the Inquisitor's whim. It would not make sense for them to be equal since they are their own characters, not just Inquisitor's playthings.
Before anyone comes and labels me as homophobe or anti-equalist or whatever labels they want to, my planned default Inquisitor is a male Dalish elf mage who will be a bachelor. So I really have no reason to spew BS.
Which means I am not saying this out of spite or hatred, I am saying this because this is the direction Bioware wants to take their characters. They want to make them their own person as opposed to completely subscribing to a trope or an ideology. A person almost always has a mix of tropes they identify with or that others identify with.
In case of Solas, he seems to be an introverted and intellectual elf. However, this does not preclude the possibility of him being open minded intellectually and not having a very open view towards sexuality / being sexually preferential. That is neither a bad thing nor a good thing, its just his thing. Its Solas' thing.
That is how I look at characters and their romantic preferences. Its their preferences. It is comparable to someone's in the real world with their preferences.

It depends. It isn't the only thing I consider when making a character, but if I want to romance a particular LI on a playthrough I'll make sure the PC is eligible. But where my canon character is concerned, my first playthrough, so far the character always comes first. And I just hope my first choice for a romance for that particular character fits...so far only my canon Hawke has lucked out and gotten the first choice.

I have a loose template that I use in that I prefer to play female, a rogue, and am usually good with either human or elf depending on the background. But from a personality aspect, I am a horrible role-player! And yes, I do select a romance interest before I start playing and then shape my character and choices around that which is why it might be easier for me to adjust. And I almost always pick the compassionate, save everyone possible type choices where I can.

Eh, there wasnt much of a drama and it ended quite quickly. And definitely little tears. In fact, more people "drunk straight dudebros' tears" than dudebros actually cried. I dont count purely homophobic folk since they complained because Sera was gay rather than because they couldnt romance her. That's what I'm saying

And the victory laps some guys did in the Cassandra thread when she was revealed as straight were pretty distasteful as well.
