I found this and I just had to

2c8a8cd6f56f8214933cd48197b25d9cf4830602 (I'm sorry)

Anyways, honestly write whatever you want, within sense. The idea is plausible, but whether or not you can convince the readers of the situation is completely based on how you write it. I would make it intensely emotional. Go big or go home ;). Generally, if you believe in what you're writing, that should carry into how it reads. This is all really vague, I know, but I don't really know how you plan on going about it x-x

Haha, ah, the Wisdom of Sloth. Sloth. Wait a minute... xD

I know what you mean! Thank you. I ask totally objectively, of course. The only things I know about spirit possession in the world of Dragon Age are that... people don't really know too much about it. When I researched it? The Seekers, Wynne, Anders, Evangeline, and perhaps Andraste seem to be the only examples I can find. So! Barring any pokable holes, I might just go ahead 8D

I HC Elvhenan to be like the Homeland (a.k.a. Bulgaria). So any music I associate with it is traditional Bulgarian music. Which can be a little haunted and weird, so for me it fits. :D

Spoiler

Elvhenan is now HC as Bulgaria.

drosophila, are your ears....pointy?

Nope, since I've left the homeland I'm apart from what I was supposed to be. I am now a regular shemlen.

But everyone has pointy ears back in Bulgaria.

The Avvar do this with their mages. They tend to make the teacher spirits leave, but we can recruit a possessed mage in JoH.

Ah! Raeona you have uncapped the special can of worms. Can particularly powerful souls take possession... just like spirits and demons

If they've manifested well enough in the fade, then most likely, but that is probably extremely hard to do, since Mythal had to "claw and crawl through the ages" as Flemeth put it.

That too! Albeit I think they are all invited in willfully. And I don't know if hold beasts can willingly/knowingly do this, so I'm going to say Spirits can possess an unwilling host as well? o.o

Corypheus managed a soul transfer of sorts, so maybe the difficult part for Mythal was getting past the Veil? Hmmm.

Yes, but I think that was his innate connection to the blight that allowed him to transfer bodies so easily, and remember he could only inhabit blighted bodies.

Cole said once (in dialogue that I forget) that souls do not linger in the fade, but rather go "beyond" to somewhere unknown.

For a soul to purposefully linger, they might have to resist the natural way of things, in a sense, which could possibly be extremely difficult as well as strenuous on the soul itself.

Not the Special can of worms!

I suppose this comes down to what a spirit/demon actually is. Cole could turn into a human, did he already have a soul, did he grow/turn into one? Or was he just borrowing that of the original Cole?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but spirits and demons can't actually force themselves onto people, they have to be granted permission right? They need you to grant that foothold, to leave the door ajar? Where Flemeth said 'a soul is not forced on the unwilling', that sounds like the same sort of deal to me.

theoretical musings: do spirits have souls?

This might entirely be the case, and in the instances of other Thedosian soul transfers (Old God Souls)... if Mythal could withstand hovering around in the Fade and the mortal realm, an OGS certainly could as well. It does make me wonder how different Souls and Spirits are, though. If Mythal was not a spirit, then her soul and Flemeth's cohabit the same vessel. Just as Kieren's soul and the OGS did.

And Wardens, unless I'm mistaken, say the way to kill an archdemon... is the nature of two souls not being able to inhabit the same body (supposedly if the host does not permit it)... and thus they die if not invited in?

Which makes me wonder. Corypheus took over Wardens. What made him survive this, that an Archdemon couldn't? Is it that the Wardens invited him in/they had sacrificed their will already? Did they explain this ingame and I'm forgetting? I think maybe they did?

I know Flemeth says  A soul is not forced upon the unwilling. But is that a rule or a courtesy? And does it apply to spirits, I wonder? The Avvar's hold beasts and the resurrection of Wynne/Evangeline are the only two examples I can find where permission might not be granted.

Ah! Your comments totally cross over with my rambling above. And are, in fact, at the root of my little tirade of questions.

Souls and spirits -- how different are they, really?
Are they bound by the same rules? In what ways have we seen those rules broken, if at all?

And yes! I reflect your question. Do spirits have souls?

Well, maybe for a soul to withstand the rigors of the fade, they have to become more spiritual, rather than "personified" (does that make sense?). In other words, they would have to become more of a simple being that is more focused (Mythal=Revenge) rather than stay varied and willful like people.

As to Cory, I think he could transfer bodies on the terms that his soul was an infection (the blight) more than anything else. Then again, it's most likely just a lore mess-up by the writers *shrugs*

Ha! We coincide in our confusion.

I wonder if Bioware has been playing fast and loose with the terms soul and spirit and the associated lore (wardens kill archdemons because you can't have two souls at once, yet Flemeth is apparently perfectly comfortable with two, also cole?) or if there is some deeper explanation they simply haven't deigned to share yet.

I like flemeth's horcrux approach to avoiding death at the beginning of DA2, but that only brings up further questions. Can a soul be splintered? How much do you need before it counts as an actual soul and at what point is it possession? And how can she leave her soul somewhere else and still go off cackling about? Flemeth might be one of my favourite characters, but she gives me a lore-headache. And I think she'd be thrilled about that.
