If I may...
I really don't think fertility is going to come into it. I've always been really impressed by PW's female characters (penchant for odd sex scenes aside) and I don't think he's going to turn the Inquisitor into a baby machine.

It's as much "jumping to conclusions" as theorizing it's based on race? We're all just guessing here; though you're right - it could be elf-specific reasons and not female-specific reasons. I don't even have a problem if it is down to him wanting to have children - people are allowed to want children without reducing women to babymakers - I just find it to be an interesting development.
Have you read The Masked Empire? If not, I definitely think you should and it might change your thoughts regarding his race restriction! Specifically the eluvian part, as mentioned previously. That's what I'm thinking for now, not much thoughts on it but it seems more likely.
@DeityDi
Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see then!
Um... Yes, it... does? We're talking about him becoming a king, right?
You know you can run off and be happy wardens together right? Let Anora be queen
But we were talking about the king path.

No, I haven't. Read Asunder and really liked it, so I'm not sure why I'm dragging my feet with The Masked Empire.
Now I just have to decide on whether I want to pair him with a mage or non-mage, hmmm.
Wow, this thread moves way too fast for me to actually post... I'm probably gonna be pages behind and the people I'm replying to won't even see it, heh...
The whole baby thing was literally a random as hell theory that someone just threw out and I'm seeing people calling Solas and the romance disgusting for it on Tumblr.
Talk about insufferable.
POOR DUDE HAS DONE NOTHING BUT BE BALD AND LIKE ELVEN CHICKS
SOLAS DEFENSE SQUAD
Ah, jeeze...
FADE POWER ACTIVATE.
In all seriousness, though... I completely understand the disappointment, but to call the character disgusting based on a baseless assumption? Goodness... I'm not cool with that. ![]()
Spoiler
JASDJHSA CAL.THAT IS SO CUTE OH MY GOSH. I just... I just...

Well, this is disappointing.
i guess I'll be spending less time in this thread now. I just cannot roll a female/play a straight romance.
It was nice while it lasted, Solas thread.
I'm sorry.
I hope you can still enjoy the character and his friendship arc, and maybe form a connection with him that's still worthwhile. And if you do, please come back and talk to us! I hope you find an LI that makes you squeak with glee. ![]()

It's not terribly interesting when you're gay. It'd be one thing if there was a situation or two in history where it was unequal in our favor, but that doesn't exist, and likely won't. It's interesting when just about every gay that allows you to play your gender of choice also caters to your sexuality: it's not that I want every option to be bisexual, I'm just unhappy about what I assume will be inequality in choices. I'm also a little bit less flexible than most people: I get enough heterosexuality in almost every other form of media I enjoy that I tend to actively avoid it in RPGs, so I won't probably ever end up romancing Solas.
Maybe Viv will be another lesbian, or Blackwall will be gay and I'll bite my tongue and pretend I never posted this, but I was pretty interested in romancing Solas so I'm feeling like a victim today. And I'll probably be whiny if I post on the forums for the next little bit.
I'm sorry this is a bummer for you. I can understand at least somewhat. I mean, I wanted to romance Cass a ton, but I won't be rolling a male for her... There's an endless supply of heteronormative... everything... around; I don't need to go out of my way to get it in a video game. Sigh. Straight really was the last thing I expected. I had started wanting Blackwall as an LI a day or so ago, now I'm really hoping he is a bisexual romance... It looks like somebody's going to lose either way, and with all the representation talk I'd assumed this wouldn't be the case... But I guess it is...
But we were talking about the king path.
Now I'm just imagining Solas hiding in the trees amongst the Dalish, creeping on the Inquisitor from afar.
Solas: Yeah. That's my waifu.
He was following her the whole time and that's how he becomes your companion early on in the game. PW did say that he seeks "you" out, afterall. ![]()
I thought we were talking about his romance, which at no point requires him to become king
Well, yes, his romance but also his restriction thingy. Which surface only when you make him a king.

Solas: Yeah. That's my waifu.

Haha omg this made me laugh so much ![]()
Didn't they say that Solas met dalish before?
Maybe he's met the dalish Inquisitor before the breach happens?

Solas: Yeah. That's my waifu.

Haha that's cute...and a bit creepy but I like that. ![]()
Happy for the people that wanted him, disappointed he's not available for male elves too though...ah well. At least I get Dorian and Iron Bull.

Someone's channeling their inner Elanee! (NWN 2 male love interest for those curious!)
And yes it was somewhat creepy. Maybe he dreams of you first. ![]()
You still talk about the character in the thread

Sure. But let's be real, the thread is gonna be full of (rightfully) happy fans talking about their straight romances and it's just gonna sting too much that I can't participate. Call me a whiner if you want, but *shrugs*
JadePrince, I would never call you a whiner and you have every right to feel disappointed. We still love you, even if you don't hang around as much. I understand.
Hugs
to everyone who feels this today.

Totally understandable. Sad to see it though, as you've actually always been one of my favorite people on these forums. Hope you'll pop in every now and then, or once the game comes out. Sorry. : (
Well, all I have to say for myself is goodbye Mage!Lavellan/Cullen.
Hello Mage!Lavellan/Solas.
(but I'm still sad my Mr. Elf can;t romance him...)
Don't worry people, after his eventual betrayal and the fact that he secretly wants to commit genocide against all humans, dwarves and qunari's, I'm sure we'll have so much more things to talk about him in this thread. ![]()
Oh god you made me make the most awful snort laugh!
@manabloom my brain won't stop! Too much excitement! I've already started writing this story in my head where they travel together after inquisition. My elfquisitor is almost due and they get stuck in a snowstorm having to seek shelter in an abandoned cabin so she can safely give birth. It's like I can see his beaming face in my mind as he holds their newborn baby and it stabs at my romantic soul. x'D I'm like Cass, in real life I don't share how much of a sucker I am for love stories. But in private.... I'm all over those romantic comedies.
If you guys get tired of me blasting out head canons lemme know. ;u;
No way I love it...if you want to share it with us please do! ![]()
On the topic of romance: I don't know whether to feel exited for my first Inquisitor (I planned on a female elf), or sad for all the other awesome people in the forum who had different hopes and dreams.
Personally I'm happy about this. Bioware truly made the romance that best fit the character, rather than simply appealing to the masses. This is part of the reason Dorian is gay, Sera is a lesbian, and Iron Bull is pan. It fits their respective characters to be so, rather than simply being a tacked on feature for certain subsets of the fanbase. I like Dorian a lot from what I've seen, and I truly do wish he was bi/straight, since I do not play gay characters. But it makes a LOT of sense for his character to be homosexual. I mean, what could make a man more of a renegade in a society that is so concerned about lineage and bloodlines?
Plus, we can now throw the 'All elves, especially male ones, are bisexual' trope out the window. So glad Bioware has done so. That was my biggest worry about Solas being bi, which I truly thought he would be. Bioware really threw a curveball here, given what we knew about Solas.
Really curious about the story reasons, though. Elven babies seems to be obvious explanation/fear. Personally, I'm not against this. Once of my favorite parts about the romances in Star Wars: The Old Republic is that they all referenced having kids, be they natural or adopted. To me, that's a natural progression of a relationship. Even if that progression is "No, let's not have them.". So Solas making the decision that he doesn't want to have human/dwarf/Quna-(wait, do Qunari even have half-breeds?) kids would be a logical explanation. Still, I have a feeling that it is something more.
