Imho nowadays it's like walking on eggshells (see what I did there?) Tropes and stereotypes aside.

I swear some people are professionally offended by everything.

I was watching cut out scenes from Who's Line is it Anyway? and so many jokes and games didn't make it in live because the lesbians, the blind, the disabled, the black, the young, the old, the women, .... would get offended.

People ought to ease up.

(As much as I understand with all the offense taking, what's too much is too much. And it appears to me personally, that recently, everything one does can offend someone. I really think some people simply want to be offended and will always find a way to be.)

I want to get paid to be offended. That's brilliant, lol

Yep, you sound kind of like my boyfriend. He talks up Obsidian games for the same reasons you do.

 
Eh, what can I say?  Sometimes I like telling someone that you get to the ground faster by jumping   (oh god I promise I'm not a crazy person IRL)
 
More seriously, as much as I like the twisted options, I especially value how Obsidian games react to things like that.  Kreia gave me a creepy but awesome speech.  Atton was extremely discomfited.  Bao-Dur freaked out.  But nowhere in those reactions did the game directly condemn or vindicate what I had done.  It showed me what happened, how everyone reacted, then let me decide whether I felt good about it or not.  Which, for someone who overthinks things, resulted in me never feeling 100% good about any decision.

My friend Fred has a saying: "You have the right to expect decency.  You don't have the right to NOT be offended."  It's a bit of a mouthful, but IMO he's right.  Like with fanfiction, I think it's a matter of social expectation. Also, I'd like to think that people can tell the difference between someone being offensive on accident (usually via ignorance) and someone being offensive on purpose.

Finally finished the next chapter in that one fic I've been whinging about being blocked over. So, if any of you enjoy my Solavellan smut, here you go. It is not art, but I'm writing again, so I am pleased with it.

And why wouldn't I be? The whole intent behind my madness was to get my Lavellan laid and make it believable. I don't think that would work out well if I wasn't at least a little chill about editing.

It is hard for me also to compare those... I might pick Solas only cause I love him lol but I think I will also see the other version and decide later what will happen but as someone said before... I don't think Lavellan will get to decide the way Max does. I saved Arcadia Bay because besides all the people we see in there.. there a lots of more innocent lives out there. Second reason was that Chloe actually wished her mother to live... well at least wanted to and she said that she thinks that is what Max should decide.. all the innocents... BUT THE MAIN REASON for me was that I actually thought when she said '' What if you are only delaying my real destiny ''. As we have seen.. in every reality whenever Max has changed something she always dies. Yes in the end she does not when the storm comes but how do you know if she won't in the future? Because that was so uncertain and it was pretty much likely her destiny since when Max tried to change things everything got worse and worse.. is she supposed to keep saving her all the time? What if she eventually fails and cannot save her any more? What if she messes up the time? What if she has to sacrifice more people in the future as well in order to keep her safe?

 

that was the main reason I did not choose Chloe... and yea.. I would not really compare those for Solas since the matter is different and bigger. Solas has actually done something and he wants to save more people but yes it will bring destruction.. but it's different if you think of it... one person + ancient world (world of the elves) or the current world with corruption... blight and wars and all that mess... ) It's kinda hard decision if your character is an elf so uhm.. yeah..

I was actually speaking about how Solas parallels Max, not about Lavellan and her deciding to save Solas because it's a different matter (which I think is not really comparable seeing saving Solas doesn't have to mean lots of people die).

Solas tries to fix his mistakes in a stubborn almost obsessive manner, similar to how Max is focused on saving Chloe.

Max could sacrifice 10000 people to save Chloe, Solas sacrificed a lot more the save the world, perhaps he'll do that again (but to save his world).

The fact that it isn't obvious to people which way to go (sacrifice Arcadia Bay or Chloe) means something about the decision, I merely wondered if other people thought about Solas when making it. Somehow I understand better how he could do such a thing.

I chose to save Chloe and it's really given me an insight into how Solas must feel.  Max goes through so much in episode five and rips time apart to save Chloe.  In the end it's almost like she can't give up because it would make everything she went through mean nothing.  Solas must feel that everything he did as Fen'Harel will mean nothing if he stops trying to save the world.

I was horrified when I read the news, and when you have worked as a teacher yourself... I have no idea what I would have done in a similar situation. It just hurts inside to think of the victims and their families. I'm glad your friend is okay!
