If they don't continue this story in the next game, I'm going to be hugely disappointed.

Did anyone change their views about Solas and even his plans?

I mean, Max was ready to sacrifice 10 thousand (give or take) people to save Chloe, and yes with Solas we are speaking about much bigger numbers but Solas did it to save the world from the Evanuris, Max does it to save one person that she cares about. Now Solas wants to fix his mistake, a lot of the last episode was Max trying to fix the fact Chloe got shot by Jefferson or died in Arcadia Bay.

While I personally retained my previous view on Solas (I sympathize with him), I feel like I understand him better somehow. I mean - I think everybody who played the game felt really conflicted about the last choice, I personally stared at the screen for a while. He did what he did to the Evanuris, killed load of people but possibly saved the world. Now he wants to "fix" the side effects of his actions, possibly at a great cost...

 

I wonder how it would've been if Solas was a playable character in a game series, like "The Dreamer" I, II & III. How would people then react to him?

When I saved Chloe the first time I wasn't even thinking rationally, I was very much of the mindset of, NOPE, I'M DONE WITH YOUR BULLSHIT GAME, I'LL HAVE MY HAPPY PRICEFIELD ENDING NO MATTER WHAT and then wasn't even offered a kiss scene or anything after choosing to do so, how infuriating.

 

If I'd acted believing this wasn't a fictional simulation, the choice would have been far more strained. I am very tentative, actually, with most decisions, I weigh up both sides very precisely, it's only recently that I've learnt to be impulsive with trivial decisions. I'd spend a long time thinking about it. I don't know if I could justify that kind of loss to myself, but if I cared about anyone as much as I could imagine myself caring about Chloe... I don't know if I could let them go either.

 

Of course, consequences can also be a deterrent. I'd never not kill Loghain, because I could never do that to Alistair.

 

Having let Loghain live in one playthrough with a particularly pragmatic dwarf, and having some really honest conversations with the guy, I now actively struggle to kill him, precisely because RPGs are so good at allowing you to empathise and relate with characters. Especially since the redemption ending puts you back into the good books with Alistair - he says he's no longer mad at you, and it seems like everyone's got what they've wanted and been put through minimal trauma (except possibly Morrigan, but eh). The only exception is the City Elf origin, where everyone the Warden had grown up with, including Cyrion, was at risk of being enslaved - if not already shipped off to Tevinter before she arrived. That's just unforgivable when it's so personal.

Hello there! Welcome to the fold!

 

We're a friendly bunch, we often share fanfiction and art (some of us even welcome it!), and we always have some blankets and cookies and .gifs of fuzzy animals on hand if you're ever in need. Which you probably will be, after Trespasser.  I completely agree, I'd be really disappointed if they didn't follow up Solas, (or Solavellan) in the next game - it'd be almost negligent.

 

I want to get paid to be offended. That's brilliant, lol

Vivienne had added truffle oil to the house's shared grocery list.  Solas considered it for a moment before unchecking the box.  It was their own little private game, her making extravagant demands and him ignoring most of them.  Dorian never noticed; in fact, Solas couldn't think of a single instance where Dorian had ever stepped into a grocery store.  He'd still yet to live down putting a metal fork in Vivienne's brand-new microwave.  

 

Solas looked down at his study guide key; it was harder than Professor Ameridan's actual exam, but no one would remember that if they did well.  No one except Sera, who would bitch about learning something for a change.  He sighed and rubbed his temples; at least he didn't have to teach her section until Thursday.

 

The cramped little classroom where he led discussion section filled up earlier than usual today.  Notebooks that had gone unused all semester suddenly appeared from nowhere, and he could tell from the cadence of the taps and clicks that laptops were actually taking notes.  

 

All, of course, except Cole.  Who slunk in right at the end.  He walked up to Solas, who continued to write exam information on the whiteboard.

 

"For you," said Cole.  He set something down on Solas's study guide key.

 

"Thank you," said Solas absently.  "I suggest you take a seat, Cole."  

 

"She kept looking for you this morning."

 

The words didn't register until a few seconds later.  He finished writing exam information, double-checked the times, and turned around to pick up the study guide key.

 

Cole still hadn't turned in his overdue paper, but Solas didn't care.  He smelled the coffee before he registered the Little Haven symbol on the paper sleeve.  He looked up to see Cole beaming at him from the very back of the room.

 

Picking up the cup, he felt cardboard, not the brush of her fingers against his.  But taking a sip brought more than just the warmth of the coffee.  Solas fought the ridiculous grin that threatened to spread across his face.

 

"If you'll all take a look at the board," he called across the room, and the chatter of his undergrads died down.  "Your exam times are here, and posted online.  If you are sick or need to make up an exam for any other reason, please email me or Professor Ameridan before next Friday.  Professor Ameridan will also be hosting an extra study session on Sunday evening at seven."

 

"Solas?  I think I've lost my study guide.  I swear I had it this morning, I just--"

 

"I brought extras," said Solas without missing a beat.  He picked one up and handed it to Merrill.

 

"Thank you."  Her huge green eyes got even wider as she scanned the sheet.  "Are you really going to test us on all the pre-Veil material too?"

 

"Yes," said Solas firmly over the murmurs of discontent from the rest of the undergrads.  "History is cumulative, and so are your exams."

 

He took another sip of the coffee; usually, it was a fleeting luxury, something to keep him warm on the walk to campus.  But this afternoon, he took his time.  Let himself savor the bitter and the sweet, the memory of the mystery girl's smile this morning.

 

A beep from his laptop snapped him back to the present.  Vivienne again, now adding dessert wine to the list.  He closed the lid; that one was worth consideration.

 

"We will start with basic principles of pre-Veil civilizations," he began, but history was the last thing on his mind for a change.  When did the girl who so loved mystery next work, and did she like dessert wine?

 

(Oh, and the bit about the fork in the microwave?  That's a real thing. My Disney Princess roommate did that freshman year )

I wasn't kidding when I called her my "Disney Princess" roommate 

 

She was seriously the sweetest cinnamon roll ever; basically Cole + Merrill   Her family was very wealthy in her home country, and she'd always had maids growing up.  So this girl didn't know how to do anything.  Boil water, microwave, do laundry, zip.  She didn't even know basic safety things like "Don't wander around drunk at 2 AM."  There were three of us in the apartment, so my other roommate and I spent most of the first two weeks teaching her things so she wouldn't die or catch the apartment on fire    Thankfully, she was a quick study.

I was horrified when I read the news, and when you have worked as a teacher yourself... I have no idea what I would have done in a similar situation. It just hurts inside to think of the victims and their families. I'm glad your friend is okay!

Yeah, it is really sickening. What makes it truly chilling is that he posed in selfies with the students before he attacked. They thought the Darth Vader/Nazi helmet and sword was a fun halloween costume. These photos now circulate on the web.

She and my other roommate actually did a lot to dispel my weird teenage preconceptions about other girls, since growing up the majority of my friends were guys. They were both super girly; my non-Disney roommate basically looked like a shorter version of Regina George from Mean Girls We had almost nothing in common. But they were both really sweet, smart, wonderful people. My roommate was so proud of herself when she first helped us make cookies.

It's just simply mind-blowing. I am wondering if Feynite will ever stop surprising me with her creativity. It makes sense that the purple lyrium would burst. Things can't resolve that easily. Now the dwarfs are going to be even more pissed. I wonder how they would get out of this one.On the other hand, maybe the lyrium bursting from the Titan would help spread it to other Titans and thus stop the blight. Perhaps it's not so bad.

Maybe the difference between the elvhen and the elves is the difference between real life and fictional narratives, and Solas is the only Dragon Age character who realises they're actually in a video game. Has to explain to all his elvhen bros that he's got a 2d (the d stands for dalish) waifu who is made of thousands of pixels and that he considers her more important than their dead empire.

 

I mean that's just embarrassing no wonder Solas can't admit that he's wrong about them.

He learned how to speak Qunlat during his journeys through the Fade.

 

Actually, that might for real be how he learned it.

He had to do something in those three thousand years sleeping right? I imagine, as a dreamer who gains sustenance off the fade, he wasn't completely unaware of what was going on, the fade reflects reality to an extent.

 

I do wish it'd been more unambiguous as to how long Solas had been awake though - that would allow for more wiggle room in terms of becoming accustomed to modern society. For instance, I seriously doubt that Common existed until after the Fall, and if we assume Solas was doing nothing in those thousands of years asleep then he had to learn it to a fluent standard within a year. The only way we can get around that is by arguing Solas wasn't entirely lying about learning a lot from fade-walking, I imagine he'd have seen reflections and snippets of the changes that had occurred, but only understood the magnitude of that change when he finally woke.

 

I mean the other solution could be that he's just a special snowflake but that's nowhere near as fun.
