So sorry about the friend! I'm glad he made it OK. <3

Yeah, use the silliness to your advantage! It must be such a great feeling to be free of that chapter that's been burdening you and move on to better things.

I want to experience that feeling :( I'm seriously stuck on this stupid Vivienne chapter. Why did it have to fit the plot so well?! I could just scrap it. Who needs plot anyway?

You need plot, because otherwise you'll wind up where I am, meandering about in the blank white void with no guiding star  :P

And this is relevant because I've been wanting to incorporate/write some stargazing into a fic but couldn't make up my mind if I wanted to do a sort of cliched Solavellan fluff like that or incorporate it into a past story. I think I'm doing the latter.

As an unrepentant wh*re for cliched fluff, I vote for both :D

I just wrote something!

It is was extremely fun to write but the premise is incredibly stupid!

After disbanding the Inquisition Lavellan decides to open up a relationship advice and counseling office.  I know, it's so dumb!

Her first clients are Dorian and Bull!

http://archiveofouro...g/works/5058886

I would love feedback and suggestions for future clients!

Great idea! I feel that we spend half of our conversations with our companions being their therapist anyway. -_-

Playing Team Therapist works for some of my PCs.  My Lavellan is surprisingly good at it, very patient with her crazy-ass friends.  But my Amell was sort of like, "OK...that's nice?  I think?"  And my Hawke actively made everyone's problems worse

Depends where you go, but there are trees. Even in dense Manhattan they plant trees. That said, some of us live in more residential areas with houses, and you do get birds. I hear birds a lot. We have a local fat raccoon and there's at least one opossum family nearby. But you also get a lot of city noises. I have train tracks nearby. Sometimes it's hardly audible. Sometimes it seems so loud.

At the back of the houses on my street, there's a lot of carved out space on both sides that people use for parking or for their children to play in, and the lack of harsh lights means that it's also really easy to see stars at night from outside there. Sometimes I just step outside my door and look.

And this is relevant because I've been wanting to incorporate/write some stargazing into a fic but couldn't make up my mind if I wanted to do a sort of cliched Solavellan fluff like that or incorporate it into a past story. I think I'm doing the latter.

I lived in a rural area for the better part of my life. I remember several years ago I went up to the city my aunt was living in to watch her kids overnight and I couldn't sleep because of all the noise and how dark it was inside (I never needed curtains on my window since we lived in the back woods so natural night light was always coming in). There was traffic all night, and a few ambulances, people talking on through the walls, and then a few sounds like gunfire that made me call my aunt!  She said it was "probably" just a car. Of course later in the week she had told me before I arrived someone was shot a block away... comforting!

I love stargazing! It's very romantic, so definitely a perfect idea for a fluff piece, although I like the idea for the past story a lot too!

In terms of noise, it's interesting how you adjust. When I was studying in Madrid, my particular apartment was two blocks from a square where a lot of students would regularly gather to drink cheap booze into the night every weekend. These street parties would sometimes make it onto my street, where at least once, there were people outside, in the rain, playing guitar and singing. It was never scary or weird walking around those nights, mostly just happy people.

I've lived in a couple of different neighborhoods and they've mostly been safe and relatively quiet ones. But I still love the noise and energy of a denser area where rural areas to me are so quiet and unsettlingly dark and often, boring. But I'm also extroverted and enjoy exploration and the energy that comes from even just being around  people when you can't be with them.

I think it would work for both, but I don't want to give both couples all of the same experiences after doing this (the summary alone explains). I'm leaning toward fluffy teenage stargazing at the moment, but that could change. I'm still working on that aforementioned evil necessity: plot structure. :)

Uuuugh, guys, seriously need some cookies and hugs. Sweden just had a school killing, a guy with a sword :(  I know a girl who goes to that school, but fortunately she is unharmed.

Sorry for the random depressing post, just needed to vent somewhere. Don't really know what to do or think right now. Really afraid that this will give inspiration to similarly minded monsters :(

Hugs  and alots of hugs it most be hard for you and your friend!

It's raining where I live! Today I woke up to a dark room and I thought my alarm had gone off a few hours early until I heard the rain on the window. And the weather report says it'll storm tonight! And it never storms here!

I'm so excited guys. I don't think you understand how much I adore rain. And the only thing better than rain is a good thunderstorm. Unless I'm driving. But I won't be so who cares.

I get super excited about rain since, you know, drought conditions :D

But it's difficult to get anywhere.  Los Angeles drivers in the rain are like wet cats: extremely upset, confused, and prone to lashing out at people

We had a water main break that flooded the streets in NY today for hours and my friend who lives in SoCal was like...SEND IT TO US.

Here, a water main breaks and floods the streets somewhere like once a week.

It's getting difficult to tell if this is because of harsh winters.......or really poor budget spending.

Yeah, you do get used to the change eventually, but I'll always prefer the quite stillness of rural areas. I spent many nights as a teenager getting up and taking walks on my street that was lit only my the moonlight. Probably not the safest thing to do, but rural areas always made me feel very safe and at home. I like exploration, but my discoveries were hidden creeks and and little opening spots in the forest's canopy where I could watch deer graze. I feel very connected with my Lavellan because of our mutual love and experience with nature  ^_^. I will freely admit to being more introverted, I appreciate social time, but I also appreciate solitude. When ever I got bored exploring by myself I had my best bud and worst influence who took me around the small town a couple miles away from my house. Oh my goodness, our middle school days when we thought we were the specialist little snowflake and cool rebels at that!

Thanks! I was debating whether or not to do that (I didn't want to offend people), but I thought "what other opportunity will Dorian have to be able to defend himself and his relationship?"

Great idea! I feel that we spend half of our conversations with our companions being their therapist anyway.  -_-

Thanks! And I know! They might as well as make it official  :D

people find rain.... exciting?

it's drizzly like 40% of the time here, lots of soft showers and grey skies (it's never dramatic thunderstorms, that's far too exciting). Literally, the only reason I grew up in England instead of Scotland (my parents are from both countries and had job offers in both places shortly before I was born) was because Scotland is colder, greyer, and rainier. I live on the west side of the island which also means it's less dry. Everyone complains about it, and talks about emigrating to France or Italy or some other southern European country just because it's sunny there

Mmmm....rain.....I love rain.

I should really consider trying to drag the family to somewhere with a lot of it.

But then I would be sleepy all the time and drink even more coffee than I already do. But I could sit in a window and listen to it all day with my cup of coffee...and a book or something. Video game.

I'm making myself all comfy and drowsy just thinking about it. I would be such a useless individual.

I have a special place in my heart for Scotland. It's unrealistic and based on the very happy few months I spent there, but Edinburgh is heaven on earth.

*Looks out window to remember what the outside of a lab looks like.*

Seems sunny out right now. Sometimes the weather is miserable, but more often than not it's fine.

In general I don't like rain because of the rainclouds. I'm incredibly sensitive to sunlight. Winters make me miserable.

See, that's the thing. I hear people all the time complain about how the weather in places like England is terrible and dreary and why would anyone want to live there - but then I go to England and it's like "HOLY **** RAIN IS A THING THAT EXISTS." Where I live we're in an almost constant state of drought. It's why I get faintly amused when people from other places complain about water restrictions. It's like "yes hello welcome to every day of my entire life."

I'd love to live in Scotland though. I visited there a few years ago and it was so beautiful - and grassy. Grass is also something that exists. Living here it's easy to forget that nature isn't made entirely of cacti and scraggly cedar trees. All the grass we have here is either half-dead yellow straw or part of someone's lawn.

Rain always reminds me of Germany. I love it! The way it smells and  the sound it makes on the roof. I like to go outside and dance in it sometimes if it's not too cold.

Sadly, I live in the desert and it doesn't rain here very often. *sighs*

This.

Like, i love summer showers. I just casually stroll in them while everyone else is running around with umbrellas up. Feels too fantastic.

Mmmm....I wonder if ancient elves had to deal with weather really.....I mean, Skyhold magically stays in like an late summer/autumny state. I wonder if they did something to alter season or weather as they needed.

lol, Solas waking up and seeing snow for the first time!

wait.......oh that's sad actually.

I see sun, through the ashes in the sky.....what if that was snow falling? And he's never seen that before cause elves didn't need snow....

Ugh....Solas...../feels

Hmmm... I've been reading through some codexes while trying to plot this Ancient Arlathan Solas vs. Andruil vs. Mythal thing, and I was reading that one about how Ghilan'nain was forced to destroy her creations to be counted among the evanuris... and well:

On the second day she drowned the giants of the sea, except those in deep waters, for they were too well-wrought, and Pride stopped her hand.

I know the theory that it was Solas that asked her not to kill the deep water sea beasties, but I couldn't come up with any reason he would intervene, unless by well-wrought meant that those creatures were intelligent and free-willed. So basically what I'm saying, is that there may be a civilization of possibly giant mer-people, or some kind of aquatic elf/dolphin hybrid, or something, that Ghilly created, and are probably still out there - which Solas saved from destruction.

Why this is important? It's not. Unless you want to write about Solas or your Inquisitor making friends with mermaids. Just a thought, on the off-chance this theory hasn't come up before. :P

This is how I am as well. Boyfriend once talked about wanting to maybe move to a place like Seattle and my response was something like....so I can drink even more coffee and sink into rain and clouds depression? Winters, bleh. So dark and cold. I still go out and live life, but my winters are spent waiting for spring. Cold weather is usually fine until the end of the year, but Jan-March are usually pretty miserable. Though osmetimes we get our weird NYC weather patterns and end up with 70-degree days in January or something weird like that.

Personal HC: They had weather but they could control it, so you can conjure a warm summer day at will if you want to. Also the Fade would intuitively adjust to their desires, i.e. if you think the rain sucks, you'll see a warm summer day, while someone else would see rain.

But if I think too much about it, I start running into paradoxes, just like with any situation where you can shape reality at will. Since there are so many wills conflicting with each other, how does reality satisfy each of them?

Or maybe the majority of people were slaves anyway and didn't have the luxury of the Fade adjsuting to their wishes?

I hope any of this makes sense, I write in a hurry in the middle of many things.

Well, wasn't there the saying about how the more you love them the more you torture them? :D  And I love Sophia so much, at some point I had to tone it down and be like, "OK, let's limit it to a reasonable amount of hardship that can happen to one person."  :D
