Wow, went out for the day and of course the news hits. The thread was at 514 pages, and now I've caught up again...

 

First, I want to offer condolences to the Solassians that did not get the news they were hoping for.. As well as, the Blackwall & Vivenne fans who are still waiting on confirmation one way or the other.

 

To be honest the restrictions are a bit shocking. But as someone that has always intended to play a female rogue elf, and had tentatively planned Iron Bull or Sera as a backup romance, the announcement is everything I could have hoped for... and now, I will quietly dance

 

 

All that said, I expect it to be a tragic romance. If I've learned anything about romancing mages in the Dragon Age universe, it's that they are going to break your heart in the end.

I agree that this is an awesome thread. Today was hectic, and understandably so. We had a lot of news thrown at us today about the character we have been following for awhile. I love this thread because of all the lovely people that make it this thread in the first place. You are all a lovely bunch that make it feel like a community. Today some of us got bad news. It is okay to be disappointed! And it is okay to be happy for confirmation! There will also be people who 'don't get why people care so much' and can post offensively or repeatedly that they don't understand, but despite that I think you all handled it like a boss. I understand why some of you will stop posting here but know you will also be welcome if you feel the need to talk. The Solas thread has been much more than about a character, at least it can certainly feel that way. So thank you all for being rockstars and, for the most part, being respectable awesome people. I'm not sure where I'm going with this but THANKS. I love being here because of you all!

I wonder if the reveals are, like, the worst part of this for all the forum moderators. The threads explode with activity, and the trolls take the suddenness of it to crawl out from the floorboards and wreck havoc for a bit.

Yessssss. I have no idea what would enable one to have that ability. Was that talked about in a novel?

No (not that I can remember anyway... Occassionaly Felassen would say some cryptic things - it was never really explained how he knew them) but it does make me think of that scene in Witch Hunt with Ariane and Finn - where they performed that ritiual that used her Dalish blood to lead the way. It could be Solas is using a similar type of magic, which doesn't require him being Dalish. Or maybe he is by blood, even if he wasn't raised as such. Or he's something else entirely...

Let's say that exclusively your companions happened to be almost all gay, that was the intent of my original question.

 

It would depend on the characters, frankly.

 

I respect Bioware's stance on romances, though. Two options for each orientation. Other than that, they will do as they wish to. As long as they hold that line, I can deal.

 

To bring this conversation back to Solas, I do not want Bioware to feel as if it has to sacrifice Solas's characterization for the sake of the fans who want him to be romanced by this gender or this race. I want Bioware to stay true to the character they have created. And right now, they know him a heck of a lot better than we do, and characters are the element of their games that they do better than any other developer in the business, IMO. So I trust their judgment.

This news brought in a lot of angry people who don't typically frequent this thread. Now, it's starting to die down and return to the happy unicorn narnia land it once was.

 

I hope Gaider knows that we are still those same people and it doesn't keep him from stopping by in the future. I love the devs. I love the writers. I love Solas and you guys.
