No (not that I can remember anyway... Occassionaly Felassen would say some cryptic things - it was never really explained how he knew them) but it does make me think of that scene in Witch Hunt with Ariane and Finn - where they performed that ritiual that used her Dalish blood to lead the way. It could be Solas is using a similar type of magic, which doesn't require him being Dalish. Or maybe he is by blood, even if he wasn't raised as such. Or he's something else entirely...

It would depend on the characters, frankly.

 

I respect Bioware's stance on romances, though. Two options for each orientation. Other than that, they will do as they wish to. As long as they hold that line, I can deal.

 

To bring this conversation back to Solas, I do not want Bioware to feel as if it has to sacrifice Solas's characterization for the sake of the fans who want him to be romanced by this gender or this race. I want Bioware to stay true to the character they have created create. And right now, they know him a heck of a lot better than we do, and characters are the element of their games that they do better than any other developer in the business, IMO. So I trust their judgment.

IMO it adds enthusiasm to his romance. Him being restricted makes it more unique and adds to the curiosity of why he is that way.

This news brought in a lot of angry people who don't typically frequent this thread. Now, it's starting to die down and return to the happy unicorn narnia land it once was.

I hope Gaider knows that we are still those same people and it doesn't keep him from stopping by in the future. I love the devs. I love the writers. I love Solas and you guys.

Same over here. I'm sad that there's any nastiness, be it towards fans or devs... So unnecessary. Seeing Solas's male fans so let down broke my heart, and the idea of them abandoning the thread, while totally understandable, is sad. There was some gross s*** posted in here that was upsetting enough (no0o! my sweet Narnia!) and now if trolls harass the devs too... ugh.

Most theodosian socities aren't heteronormative.

 

No one is pressured to have heterosexual relationships except for marriage for reproduction in ceirtan settings.

 

Having homosexual relationships in considered equal to heterosexual relationships.

That's what I was trying to say, they are pressured to be in a heterosexual relationship for the purpose of reproduction. It's seen in Dwarves, Human Nobles, Elves, and Qunari as well (though it's a different sort of relationship, purely sexual and without even the pretense of romance), a gay member of any of said societies would very likely be mated with an opposite sex partner merely for reproduction.

I think part of that is our lovely Solas thread is full of awkward unicorns, who don't want to trot over someone's toes accidentally.  So we basically stayed in the thread and just let other people ask the hard questions.

It's a little hard to be too excited right now knowing that a lot of people were disappointed with the news.  I hope the story reason really is a story reason because I am immensely curious about what is so different for a female elf (and really what's different for every race/gender/class combination) now.  I've been sick the last few days and didn't have it in me to stick it out through all the trolling.  I don't blame David Gaider at all for just not dealing with it.  I hope none of it is too vitriolic.
