Did you know if you take Solas to meet Abelas and your not Elven, he says you walk at the side of one of their own.. Where as he says Sera has the features but isn't one of their own.

And in other news, I had to go to the 24hr surgery/doctors today (public holiday here), for the very same reason I had to go three years ago on another public holiday. How's that for chances? .

My daughter's name is Doubravka. Translated to English "Oak forest".
Even have a tattoo of an angel protecting under his wing an oak leaf. From the time when were were fending against the word alone, only me and the baby

I had a thought yesterday about the Vir Tanadhal:

So Andruil's way is made of three core tenants: Vir Assen, Vir Bor'assan, and Vir Adahlen. This thought applies to the first two verses much more than the last one, but don't the first two appear to be perfect things to teach a slave, particularly one who acts as a spy or a warrior? I kind of see them as:

 

1. Strike quickly, so that you don't give your enemy time for mercy, don't give your enemy time to speak up or engage in dialogue. Nor should you stray from doing what you've been ordered to do ("do not waver"). And then tell yourself that you've been merciful in killing them so quickly.

 

2. Be obedient and submit (to Andruil, probably). Try and find some kind of advantage or strength in total submission and loss of freedom. "In yielding, find resilience; In pliancy, find strength." Yielding refers likely to yielding to Andruil's power. This verse is all about positing total obedience as a virtue of some kind.

 

3. This last one is tricky, but it seems that Andruil is emphasising her ownership and control over the forest; it is her domain, they are "my children". despite the fact that you can't really take thousands of miles of land and the creatures within it like a trinket and put it in your pocket. I suspect she's outlining here that now you've agreed to her way, you are ultimately in her debt if you decide you don't like that. I also think the reference to 'your passing' is a little creepy.

 

idk I might just be very cynical and reading this too much from Fen'Harel's perspective here (can't say I'm not biased, I know if I were thrown into ancient elvhenan, I'd pick his side every time). The second verse definitely jumped out at me after completing Trespasser as a propaganda message.

I'm lazy.  I just crib names from other settings that sound close enough that they don't violate my immersion.  Tolkien's a good one for that.

Solas and Dorian moved camp to the armchairs by the fire after the barista lit it for all her frozen patrons.  The rain showed no sign of letting up, and lightning occasionally flashed across the windows.  Briefly, he thought of Vivienne, entertaining some fancy speaker from Jader in this downpour.  Hopefully they weren't outside.  Or maybe they were; it might teach her some humility.

 

Solas had Dorian's second draft in one hand, and a red pen in the other.  "You need to ease off the tea," he said.  "First Enchanter Josephus was known for his mastery of ice wards, not mice."

 

A small smile cracked Dorian's strained expression.  "I should leave that one in.  Give Professor Ameridan a good laugh."

 

"I would have penalized you for it."

 

"You have a stick up your ass."

 

Solas was about to retort when the mystery barista came back around to the fire with a tray laden with drinks.  "Earl Grey tea for Mr. Roderick--" the grumpy-looking man by the window didn't even look up at her "--pumpkin spice latte with extra nutmeg for Amund--"

 

"Ta, little elf!"

 

"Chai tea for Dorian, decaf coffee for Solas."  She smiled at the two of them as she handed over their drinks.  "You two are very predictable."

 

"Graduate students are creatures of habit," said Dorian brightly.  "Horrible, grueling habit."

 

She chuckled and glanced at Solas, who felt his throat tighten as he smiled back.  He could still feel her fingers brushing the raindrops from his cheek.  Dorian's grin didn't help with the nerves that were finally starting to sneak up on him.  What had he been thinking?  Was he really about to share a bottle of fancy wine with a girl whose name he didn't even know?

 

"You're...almost endearing," said Dorian around his stack of books.  "A bit pathetic, but I think I prefer lovestruck to stick-up-the-ass."

 

Solas did his best to ignore his housemate.  The clock over the fireplace read 5:45--fifteen minutes until she was off the clock, though if the rain kept up, it might not even matter.  He didn't own a car, and running back to the house in this icy deluge was not appealing.  

 

He forced his brain back to the task at hand--picking apart Dorian's draft.  It wasn't bad, though he wasn't about to tell Dorian that to his face.  The more Chantry-sympathetic members of the committee would go to town on all the Tevene sources, but Dorian was in the right for once.  If they weren't going to listen to all the facts, they didn't deserve to call themselves academics.  He scribbled in a few suggestions, fixed Dorian's spelling, and handed the draft back to him.

 

Dorian frowned at all the red marks.  "I will never get used to southern spelling."

 

"Or the food, or the weather."  They shared a wry grin.  Solas couldn't help but glance at the clock again: 6:05, and if anything, it was getting even darker and windier outside.  

 

"Are you ready to go?"

 

The barista was back, bundled up in a long black raincoat with an umbrella clutched in one hand.  The top of the bottle of port stuck out of the bag under her arm.  Solas hastily drained his half-finished cup of coffee; she saw, but had the good grace not to comment.

 

Dorian, however, was rarely so generous.  "Leaving me to fend for myself?"

 

"When I first arrived, you accused me of taking up precious book space.  You'll manage."  He glanced at the barista, who was doing her best to hide a smile.  He followed her to the back door of the coffee shop, where she suddenly stopped with her hand on the doorknob.

 

"Your place or mine?" she asked.

 

"I--sorry?"

 

"Um...which one of us lives closer?  So we don't get soaked?"

 

Solas felt himself starting to blush.  "I live three blocks from here, and neither of my housemates are in."  

 

"Oh?  Is that a selling point?" she teased.  

 

He could have hit himself.  He was a grown adult, and a few words from some random girl had him speechless.  But she wasn't a random girl; that was half the trouble.  When the silence stretched out long enough to be uncomfortable, she opened the door and gestured for him to step under the umbrella with her.

 

If this were one of Varric's terrible romance novels, he'd have a seductive line ready to go.  He'd wrap his arm around her waist, maybe whisper sweet nothings into her ear as warm summer rain fell all around them.  She'd lean her head against his shoulder and sigh something like, "Oh, Solas!  Your eyes are like the sky before dawn!"

 

Varric, he decided, could go fuck himself.  

 

But he did accept the shared shelter of the umbrella as they walked out into the driving rain.  It was either that, or spend their second date (did this even count as a date?) looking like a drowned cat.

Don't know how long it takes with antibiotics but cranberry powder is nearly instant relief.

 

And by getting Krita to behave you mean no weird transparency-brush-magic-thingy?

I really should get Cranberry stuff.. last time I had sugared (oops) Cranberry juice and I had so much it made me sick :S.

 

And yes the rubber was malfunctioning because I was selecting the colour as white rather than letting it be invisible. Also I'm not doing anything with the first layer (the white canvas) just in case. So far its good! But man will it be a job. Probably will take 20+ hours.

And when I played Lavellan, Abelas say that she is not one of their own even though she is dalish so I guess dalish doesn't count in ancient elvhen perspective. and My Lavellan was like "What!? did you just call not elvhen? In the void I am!"

The first time I talked to him on arriving at Skyhold (when it was still under construction!), I got the "Tell me, how does it feel?" line and just about climbed out of my seat. After every conversation I'm softly chanting "oh no, oh no, Thedas is hosed."

Sorry, Fade nerd, but I need to keep every party member until Halamshiral. "People who don't leave when they disapprove" are dump stats. Also this inquisitor is mega Andrastian, which doesn't help. Especially since one of the trials involves siding with mages and... this character is really, super Andrastian. So I'm also desperately trying to repair their relationship with Dorian and Cole.

It helps(?) that, since I was doing Trial of the Fool, I didn't do any Hinterlands quests until after Skyhold. Companion quests, especially, have huge XP hits. So no artifacts.

And when he hates the inquisitor, you can't ask him for stories from the Fade. So no approval there either.

I'm hoping I can somehow balance out the 5-6 Greatly Disapproves and get the balcony scene, because I'm still unspoiled for the Cadash version of that scene. Broadly, he and the inquisitor have similar philosophies, and he'll likely approve of a lot of throne judgments. It's the specifics about mages/spirits/chosen-ness by Andraste that are huge sticking points.

EDIT: well, that and Fair-Weather Friends. Double disapproval stacks up rapidly.
