And I am totally not derping around on DA theory stuff today to avoid working on any of my stories, nope, not me.

Spoiler

Yeah......I'm trying to get my act together and finish this first draft of a new chapter.......

.......but my head is now ticking with thoughts about dwarves, lyrium, Titans.........all things that have zero relevance with Zevran getting into Lavellan's pants.

But why would he have to reveal himself to gremlins to take over the network? I mean, he never really expands upon what he had to do to manage it, but if the theory that he did it at the Winter Palace is true, it sounds like he just needed a working eluvian. And he didn't seem to have much pressing need for the network if he went until Inquisition to gain control of it, so why not just wait until he got some power back, or got his orb open?

It just ties back into my sneaking suspicion that Masked Empire was written with a different, pre-Inquisition-rewrites version of Solas in mind.

This is certainly possible.  And while it makes Masked Empire a bit of a wild goose chase, these things do happen over the course of writing.

My personal explanation is that Solas had put the eluvian thing on backburner while helping quizzy deal with Corypheus.  He had enough on his plate, and he was slowly recovering his strength over the course of Inquisition.  If he did take over the network at Halamshiral and didn't need to be super powerful, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing.  He had an opportunity to gain an asset and rid himself of a potential problem, which he took.  If he needed Mythal's power to seize the network, he did it at the eluvian in the epilogue, right after his encounter with her.  Does that make sense to anyone other than me?

Oh, Zev will find a way to give it relevance.

Zev: Your eyes are so lovely.  They sing to me, like the Stone sings to her children.  Wait...that would be incest.  Never mind.  Give me five minutes, and I will try again to woo you with poetry about rocks, Blight, and the destruction of the world.

Lavellan: ...

Zev: Or we could just shut up and make love.

Lavellan: *greatly approves*

Here we go. Zevran and dwarves. sorta.

Really it's just Zevran being Zevran.

And let's have more Zevran just cause.

The best is at 3:10. Loghain/Zevran banter. Shale/Zevran is grand also.

How did he get to Mythal then to take her power? There would have had to have been at least one active eluvian he had access to, and not Morrigan's as he had already left Skyhold. It makes sense to me narratively, and makes the story more interesting to me, to think that he was doing his own thing behind our backs at the ball while we were running around trying to fix Orlais.

Opening one eluvian likely isn't the same as opening a full network. We see Kieran open one after all, and I don't think he was in command of entire network.

And I'm kinda on the opposite side... like - there was so much going around and Briala and Inquisitor were wrapped up on the same thing that Solas doing something was kinda out of question, especially if he was in the core team that went with Inky to roam the Palace. For me it seems unlikely that Solas went after Briala - in fact I don't think there was any need to go after Briala.  Especially that - like I said - he didn't say that he took the key from her. He simply said that he had to override the magic - something he'd be able to do when buffed with Mythal's powers.

Wasn't it already established that she sent her wisp through to preserve it for Morrigan? It looked like what she took from Kieran (though obvs not everyone had Kieran- and, omg, there's another theory I'm loving right now - that there weren't two wisps sent through the eluvian if she took Kieran's, because all of the Old Gods have pieces of Mythal split up into them. So, basically, she was reclaiming a piece of her own spirit!) and if both Solas and Mythal already had the ability to access eluvians there would be no need for her to waste power on reactivating the network if she knew he could do it. Even the Qunari who hate magic and had to figure them out on their own can take control of eluvians, I don't see why Solas who is far more knowledgeable about them would have a difficult time.

Um, no - that's an assumption made by players. A rather popular one, but still an assumption. Not even the dev notes say anything about it (and they can be outdated/inaccurate anyway), with them only mentioning that eventually she wants to bestow her powers to Morrigan = although how she does it is anyone's guess. I assume however that she locked enough of pieces of herself throughout years in various horcruxes artifacts, considering that she's a careful planner who had years to put stiff into motion, so I don't see how she'd need to push the part of herself right before she gets killed, like it's something she had to do in a hurry.

Also - the Qunari apparently still had to have keys to open each eluvian and only had access to select ones they managed to crack. Solas apparently is powerful enough to control the who;e network/section, though apparently Qunari keys still work...

I am so curious to see what the Evanuris look like! Solas actually as wolf-like ears, so I wonder if any of them will have a look based on what they represent?

That's a bit of a stretch, considering all elves have pointed ears, and a real wolf's ears are far more rounded than people seem to think they are.

And if the Evanuris look anything like their mosaics, they aren't going to be classically pretty by any standards. :P

You know what's a weird thing about their mosaics for me?

I want to know why June has a white lower half to his face.

And the little baby looking things in Mythal's arms also have white put on the lower parts their faces.

Beards.

June has a beard because he's a glorious sparkle dwarf. And the babies in Mythal's arms have them because ancient elvhen were born with enormous shaggy beards and lost them as they aged :P

In TME Felassan says he can open a single eluvian, but then they would have to carry him or he would have to spend a day resting because it was that taxing to open without the rune the demon had. I doubt that Solas had the power to override more than one eluvian until after absorbing Mythal's power. The rune Briala took was placed in a central stand and activated the entire network, tying it to a single password. So I can see it being a really big deal to Solas that Felassan refused to get him the password. It would take him a long time to regain the power to override her control. For an immortal Solas is very impatient.

The Qunari controlled a different network, so once they were defeated he now had control over them all, or at least that was the impression I got from the DLC.

I also got the impression that the TME Solas was a bit different. He wasn't meant to be a romance option until Weekes talked them into adding that in and how it would tie into the lore they already had established. I think this is why the impression we got of Solas in the book was different than the Solas we meet in Inquisition.

They're all little egg baby dwarves she wrapped in blankets to cuddle. She adopted them because they looked sad after she destroyed their Titan house

I think this is why the impression we got of Solas in the book was different than the Solas we meet in Inquisition.

I personally think Weekes was fairly consistent with his characterization. It's just everything we know about Solas from TME, is filtered through Felassan, who has his own opinions and observations about his boss, someone who he's probably known for thousands of years(pre-Veil even). He very clearly knows what Solas is capable of (knows that he can't overpower him for one) and accepts it.

When he allowed Solas to kill him, I was put in the mind of him giving himself as a sacrifice. That maybe his willingness to die for the sake of the modern elves, would force Solas to take the idea seriously, or at least get the orb ball rolling so to speak.

And once the conflagration at the Conclave happens, Solas is forced to stop and look at the gremlins and consider their lives. He still chooses his own people ultimately, but it's far more emotionally difficult for him if the Inquisitor chooses to befriend him. He seems like he wants to be stopped or shown another way at the end of Trespasser. I hope that this may play out in the favor of the next protagonist, so all of that character development isn't wasted.
