Wow. So that was a lot to catch up on and a lot of mixed emotions to sort through.

I'm still in shock that he has finally been confirmed to be a love interest, but I'm still reeling from the fact that he is both race and gender restricted...did NOT see that coming. I feel fortunate that I am a straight female and was planning on romancing him as a female if he was available so I am glad that he is available to me. On the other hand, I feel so sorry for those wanting to romance him as a male Inquisitor...I really felt like he was going to be bi.

At first, I was really worried that, because he is so restricted that his romance arc might be less fleshed out compared to some of the other characters that are available to more Inquisitors...but then I got thinking that this might actually be really interesting. Being so specific is actually an advantage in that the romance arc can play out in a much more defined way that wouldn't have to account for different variables, such as race and gender. So, colour be intrigued! (that, and I have complete and utter faith in Patrick to write an amazing romance arc that is full fleshed out and of the same quality and quantity as the others...and Alan's post made me even more hopeful!)

 

I was originally intending to roll a female human rogue (because I love smexy interracial/species relationships...what can I say, opposites attract for me!) but I am totally fine with redesigning my character as a female Dalish elf, still not sure whether I want to roll a rogue or a mage yet, but leaning towards mage now.

Anyway, I was playing around in the Sims 4 CAS demo and tried my hand at creating my elf, Rue, as I was holding off on Solas confirmation before visualising my Inquisitor!

Ugh I really wish we could have known sooner to prevent so much disappointment I can understand you not wanting to hang out in here anymore, but try and pop back in when you can! I'm curious as to what the "story reasons" for this restriction are. Given that Solas doesn't like being defined as "just an elf", I find him an odd choice for the limitation.

 

The fact that it's story related has me really intrigued, especially since he's so restricted. I wonder how that impacts the LI plot--there's no need to account for anything other than female elves, so does that mean that what's there is far more reactive to what the Inquisitor does?

 

I'm looking forward to finding out.

Yeah I'll be honest having so restricted makes me wonder if there's some kind of pregnancy line or if it's going to be less romantical. The news makes the reveal way less happy for me, tbh. Just because it is disappointing for a lot of people. It's so restricted I have to wonder why and if it's plot related perhaps the romance is only plot related? Idk.

But you can't not expect people to be upset at this news. Harassing devs? Ugh. Goddamn it people.

That was... unexpected, given all we know about Solas so far. I hope there's really good reason for this strict gating. Granted, I was a lucky one to be set on rolling fem!Elf first long time ago, but I still feel for those, who were denied.

OT: I don't know exactly when I will get around to romancing Solas (so many interesting characters, but not all of my future characters will be keen on romance) but I think he'd be an interesting foil for a warrior Inquisitor. I've seen the male warrior with a lady sorceress LI shtick a gazillion times, but the reverse, not so much.

Either a rogue or a mage. I'm leaning towards mage, because I have a rogue planned for Cullen. Not a rogue Dalish, but, I'll probably get around to it.  (Also, the new combat set-up is screaming for a two-mage party.)

Anyway, I'm wondering...Was the romance that broke Cheryl Solas, or someone else? It seems that if we have such a restrictive romance, then it must be pretty special (or at least, thats what i take away from it).

The idea of an elf playthrough hadn't crossed my mind (mostly because my canon Warden is an elf), but I might try it out. After all, my Warden grew up in the Circle, so a Dalish PC would be pretty different from him.

Qunari playthrough is still first on deck, though. Will make sure to loot him some nice tight comfy leggings and go after Sera, Dorian, Iron Bull, or whoever's personality catches my inquisitor's fancy.

Maybe in his explorations, Solas figured out the key, and can either only share it with another elf, or the theory that being in close proximity to non-elf races shortening that lifespan is true? It would make sense, then, for Solas to opt out of pursuing a relationship with a non-elf.

Hi Solas thread!! So this may sound creepy, but I have been lurking for a long time...somewhere are the five month mark. 

 

I am happy for everyone who planned on romancing Solas with a female elf inquisitor, congrats to you guys!

 

I am sure I will love all the companions in this game and their story arcs, etc. But I will be honest, I wanted to romace Solas with a female human inquisitor. (sadly sobbing in a corner...)

 

I think the romance race-gating is going to be an interesting addition to DAI, but I am not too happy about limiting class romance options. For example, if decide to play a straight female inquisitor you are stuck with only two male warrior options (Cullen and IB)??   Not cool.

I'm very happy he's an LI but I'm also sad that he's so restricted. Especially for those who had their hearts set on an idea or who don't like playing as female or elf. I don't have that problem but hugs for you guys.

All we know is, the romance was written by Patrick Weekes - so IB or Solas. We were thinking maybe Solas because if it were the Bull why wouldn't they just say so? Same reasoning for thinking Solas is Patrick's "sweetie." Which, since he's playing a female elf, is even more probable?

Yeah I feel bad for those that didnt get what they wanted. Sorry to those that didnt. I wish that all the li would have been released much earlyier on.

I was disappointed a bit cause I wanted that female qunari with him but not opposed to making an elf and ae ive thought a bit more about it the fact hes race restricted cause of plot reasons djoes have me rather intriqued. Yeah. I didn't want to jump to conclusions but if Patrick is doing the romance, and Sheryl...and Allan (or at least he said it was interesting to him) then it just has to be that damn good. Sure, it sucks that I can't have my original Qunari Quiz, but I'm glad they let me know before I went through another Varric situation (I never went to the boards back then).
