I struggled with it, but I worked very hard. So have some plot. I'd really appreciate any feedback from all of you, even if it's, "WTF, this is cheesy and makes no sense."

 

Now I can move on to fun things like emo rockstar Solas, Skyhold, and the appearance of Felassan.

Well, AO3 seems to work slightly better today, in my experience earlier. Though watch, I probably just jinxed everyone else.

Yesterday was the last day for sign-ups for Yuletide, which is one of the biggest fandom gift fic exchanges every year. People were getting in their last minute requests and changes, which caused a lot of lag and 404ing. They had like 1860 people sign up this year, so that was what that was all about. I'm not doing it this year because I've still got Dragon Age on the brain.

I know that relief. I managed to finally get that one chapter done  and then I was able to do the last one very soon after. Despite the plot getting away from me, which I joke about, but it did feel right to just go with what my characters wanted.

Thanks! Something I realized while writing this: Vivienne is freakin' hard to write. Much harder than it seemed at first. Especially the kind of relationship I'm trying to portray with Sophia. Much snark was written and re-written to get it to an OK point.

For those that are interested, I wrote a pricefield oneshot (I won't link it, but it's short, and it's on my AO3). There's a queer poetry slam night on campus next week and I'm thinking of adapting it into a slam poem which talks about the treatment of lesbians/queer women in fiction too. Has anyone ever written a slam poem before? I have literally never done it but I signed up for it last week just because 'lol, why not?' and I'm now shitting myself about it damn.

I think becoming active in the DA part of tumblr has had my opinion on Anders do a complete 180, from a jaded ex-fan who felt his character was written atrociously and railroaded into a role, to someone who now happily calls themselves an Anders fan and is willing to defend some of his rationale behind his more questionable actions (not all, by any means). He's now back in my canon romances . Now, if only Morrigan were a bi option, and I'd have the trio of troublesome apostates in my pockets.

 

I think it helps that a lot of the headcanon about Anders is better than what's actually been written on the page. Much like Harry Potter, then, in that respect (sorry JK Rowling).

Oh, yes, especially playing it with Vivienne. The way the three "players" are set in my head:

 

Solas: At any point will play her without her even knowing it, making her feel like *she* is playing him in the process, and gently guiding her along becoming a better player in the process. Only mistakes he makes with her are because he (spoiler!) develops feelings for her. Not easy, but because I spend so much time thinking about him, almost all his moves are clear to me.

 

Felassan: Ultimately the most selfish of them all, but also the most honest, and his goals align with an outcome that is the best for them all (IMO). Because he's so open and is barely actually playing her, he seems pretty easy to figure out right now. 

 

Vivienne: Will at all times demonstrate her slight disdain and absolute superiority in the Game, but at the same time she has to keep her playing. And it's just so, so difficult.
