You were always kind enough to cheer us up when we thought he wouldn't be a LI. So thank you for that. Ugh I really wish we could have known sooner to prevent so much disappointment I can understand you not wanting to hang out in here anymore, but try and pop back in when you can! Maybe when the game comes out so the wound isn't so fresh?

Well, Solas isn't less interesting to me because he's straight. I am really disappointed about the imbalance and, I'll be honest, it's hard for me to maintain my interest in the game right now. Part of it is a bit of bias that I'm not interested in Iron Bull as a romance, because he's not attractive to me and I don't support the Qunari, I admit. I was really hoping to fall back on equal options overall. It would help if Blackwall was available, but I don't really want to hope for it, since that just means other people have less options. But if I can muster up enough motivation to stay interested in DA:I, generally, then I'll probably be around this thread as usual.

As for the class, I love being a rogue so I'll be sticking with that.

I love playing rogue too! I have tried playing other classes, but I always end up starting over as a rogue.

Yeah I'll be honest having so restricted makes me wonder if there's some kind of pregnancy line or if it's going to be less romantical. The news makes the reveal way less happy for me, tbh. Just because it is disappointing for a lot of people. It's so restricted I have to wonder why and if it's plot related perhaps the romance is only plot related? Idk.
But you can't not expect people to be upset at this news. Harassing devs? Ugh. Goddamn it people.

It might be that Solas just isn't looking for that kind of relationship depending on the playthrough? Maybe the idea of being tied to an organization or an individual for the long haul isn't his thing? There's so many places to explore and so much to learn to just stay in one place forever. Maybe there's something in Lavellan's story that he ties into?

I'm sorry this is unhappy for you.   I mean, elven ladies are my thing, so I'm benefiting from this... but it feels really crappy coming at the expense of a bunch of other people. I don't even really know what to think? That I'm disappointed, I suppose. So much about "representation, yeah!" and now... this? I know that they said that everyone has at least two options and that fair is all they promised, but I just... I don't know. I expected more? I guess I'm not sure what I thought. But what I definitely didn't think would ever be a thing was more straight LIs... Reminds me of when the full party was revealed and I had to try and wrap my brain around the insane gender skew. I didn't think that was possible, either. Sigh.

 

I know I keep saying it, but I really do hope Solas has a fantastic friendship path as well. I could never romance Ashley, Tali, Miranda, Jack, Morrigan, or Aveline, but I still very much loved connecting with them like best friends and sisters. So I hope Solas can still come through for you guys, even if it is in a different way. And with Patrick being his writer, I think there's a good chance of that. So I hope this letdown doesn't ruin too much for you.

Wooooo! Solas romance! As I'm playing a female elf on my first playthrough, I think this basically guarantees he'll be my love interest. I'll save Cullen for one of my later, human playthroughs.

Edit: tho it does seems weird to me that he is gated to just elves, after the interview about him said he didn't like people seeing him as just an elf. Seems a bit hypocritical, but also makes me more intrigued.

That's what I'm hoping for now, considering I do like the sound of him as a character- not to mention he has a pretty sweet design to him.

Sadly I can confirm that there won't be, at the raptr Q&A I asked about this, and got the answer that it will not be completely equal.
I'd try to find it but that's damn near impossible.

It's not really just that Solas isn't a romance specifically that's upsetting, although I was really looking forward to him possibly being available. If Cullen had been bisexual, it would have made a world of difference, for example. The romance feature matters a lot to me, which I know other people frown on, but I don't particularly care and I don't see an objective reason why other features of the game have to be the dealbreaker over this. For me, it just comes down to whether I can get invested knowing it's just going to be Dorian for me. It's a huge let down from thinking I would probably really enjoy romances for at least two playthroughs. Now I'm thinking I'll probably only play once and I have to choose between two concepts that I was pretty happy with for the PC. It's just a big let down and I'm struggling to find interest enough to get back into Inquisition at all. It's not that I doubt I'll like Solas, because I'm sure I would, it's just the disappointment that there's probably no romance option to fill in the void that he left. 

 

But I really appreciate your support for equal numbers going forward, so thank you for that.

I got to sleep with the intention to stop following DA:I news cause I decided that I already have more than enough info and don't want to know the whole game in advance, when this morning I took just a small tiny little glance at the board... and the headline of this thread jumped at me.

God. damn. it.

... Now I need to make another unplanned character. *sigh* If male, was allowed, I'd already have my usual elf-rogue ready and set. Oh well.
At least he is not in my first two runs (probably) so I can get a warning if it's sucky romance (which I doubt) or about elf babies.
I originally wasn't interested in Solas as a LI at all, but simply as a companion.
Then SOMEONE compared him personality-wise to possibly Spock/Mordin with visuals of Charles Xavier/Lex Luther and... I did wish for him to be romancable if he goes in that direction...

I was bit surprised seeing Solas that restricted, though since we had so many romances begin with, I guess some of them were bound to end up being very specified.

 

While Solas being "female elf only"- romance doesn't bother me really since I was already planning play one, I do feel badly for those people who had other ideas for their Solas-romancing Inquisitor. It seems I have been lucky in my plans so far (Iron Bull & female qunari warrior/ Solas & female elf mage), but that will change if Cullen isn't interested in dwarves....

 

I wonder if Solas-romance is more focused on the fact that our Inquisitor is Dalish than she is an elf? Would be rather interesting...

You're probably right.  To people who didn't follow development closely he could easily be that 'secret' romance that no one knew about.  Also, not sure if you saw this but I edited into a post a while ago that I'm totally in love with your avatar and just wanted to say again that I think you're incredibly talented

 

 

 

Maybe we're not fully understanding what PW meant when he said "Solas hates people who look at him and just see an elf."  (<--- that's Patrick's emphasis, not mine) He could still be proud of being an elf but unhappy that people would see his ears and dismiss his knowledge, abilities, accomplishments, etc.  Perhaps he wants to be seen as a sum of all his parts and not be defined solely by his race.

 

Edit:  Also, Solas has spent his life exploring ancient elven ruins in the Fade, maybe he loves the elf culture and wants to make sure elves still exist to carry it on.  It's not the prettiest thing but I don't think it's such a horrible thing to want. 

 

When I changed my last name after being married I CRIED, because I was the last in my family to carry the name and it felt like I was losing a piece of my identity/history.  Now that I think of it I'm not sure that I'd judge him too harshly for wanting an elven family, all I lost was my name when he faces the loss of an entire people/culture.
