Outrage!

I'd seriously push for a world state where magic is gone completely, just so everyone is forced to obey genetics. (And chemistry, physics, and all the other sciences, of course. But mainly genetics. )

:crying: :crying: :crying: No magic means no elves, no dragons, no giant underground behemoth with dwarves running around inside them...

Wow you're right. The only companion with brown eyes is Cassandra and hers are hazel. They made that decision because "The choice of walnut hazel eye colour served to further her authoritative look, appearing a bit warmer than blue eyes and giving her a harder edge". Wat. Why.. So subjective XD.

Also Cullen has brown. But that's it.

There are also a lack of natural green eyes.

Varric!

...

Depending on the game!

I love her hairstyle.  It's really distinctive!

Also, no rush on editing.  I spent today barfing up angst :P

I have a chapter coming which requires me to push back some parts I've cut out before so no worry, this one is going to take some time. :D

I should draw her from front and before she goes for that hair. Totally normal girl. :P

I don't really count hazel and Cullen's aren't really brown either. Alistair's were kind of brown but I think they're softer now. Even people with super dark hair, like Blackwall or Dorian have light eyes.

Vivienne, Giselle.

Lol. Dragon Age clearly has something against brown eyes, especially darker brown

Not that it bothers me! I see dark brown enough in real life  :P I like lighter eye colors. I haven't made a single character in all the games with brown eyes :D I guess I'm conforming to DA's wishes!

I never know what to classify hazel as genetically. Eye charts never seem to account for them and I don't know whether they would be more green or brown.

They don't seem to have dark brown in Inquisition, no..

I gave my Hawke brown eyes, flat colors be damned. Because someone should have them.

It bothers me so much that developers can't or don't even bother get darker brown eyes right.

Brown has a lot of variety, as other colors, but people don't always even realize, I think. Mine are dark but not too dark, and my irises have a darker ring around them. My dad's are slightly lighter. My mom's are darker.

Yeah, but, and I say this as a brownie myself, brown just isn't a very interesting color.

Eye colors are usually used to express certain personality traits in fictional characters and while blues and greens can go into a vast array of personality types depending on their shade and how they're described brown usually only gets you doe-eyed, down to earth, normal, maybe compassionate and warm, but it doesn't have the variety that other colors do. Brown is almost never anyone's favorite color, it's just too background-y and bland.

I do think it is odd that the devs haven't had any prominent dark brown eyed characters though. I think dark brown eyes can be prettier and more expressive than hazel and light brown yet all the brown eyed characters have light brown eyes.

Isabela's are almost amber. Did you use orange for the inner or outer color?

Obviously a lot of people have brown eyes, but it doesn't make brown eyes uninteresting. I love brown eyes, personally.

Fictional tropes are artificial creations, after all. who says you can't associate someone's brown eyes with those types, etc. No one. Art and trends change.

It's a bias for the uncommon, how people praise blue eyes and blonde hair because they're rare. And yet highly overrepresented in fiction and in our leading actresses, etc.

Depends where you're from.

I'm living in a Western country and most people here have blue. I wonder where America got its influx of brown genes, I suppose they're a multicultural melting pot.

And I can't remember what I did for the eye color on my rogue XD.

Brown eyes can actually be pretty cool  :P

my eyes were hazel when I was a kid, and turned brown overtime, so now they have this weird effect to them and turn red in the sunlight

when I was a kid I had a really weird friend who thought I was a vampire XD

Brown eyes can be interesting too! :D

edit: btw I got bullied and called "vampire girl" which was annoying =3=

How to get sent right back into the feels corner hard. See that the next episode description for FMA: Brotherhood says Shou Tucker.

But I also come bringing this while I debate whether or not to watch.

Also another thing re:brown eyes and art. In my fics, for example, I gave Nehn, Nirwen's first love and later close friend, brown eyes. I don't think I've ever once used one of those 'associated with brown eyes' tropes. I've called her eyes precise, said they guard impulse, called them liquid, and other stuff. It's possible to avoid tropes or simply not use the same descriptions.

What gets boring is tying certain character types to the same physical traits. And it can be problematic in terms of excluding non-white people, the majority of whom do have brown eyes. I don't identify as a white person, and most of my family members have various personality traits, and also brown eyes. :)

What I want to know is when they're going to represent us people with heterochromia. I have one iris that is blue and the other that is brown on top and blue on the bottom. Clearly they could be exploiting this demographic.

I have central heterochromia (it's a thing, and it's relatively common: https://en.wikipedia...l_heterochromia) - basically, my yes are gray, but the ring around the irises is gold-ish. Plus, there's a rather noticeable brown spot in the right eye.

Well, there are a whole bunch of tropes, so uh....take your pick?

I'm only speaking about fiction of course. They are an unpopular color in most fiction for the same reason they're popular for plain Jane characters or main characters your supposed to live vicariously through-- brown eyes are just seen as the norm. Blue and green eyes are over-represented because of their uniqueness and because of their expressiveness. The symbolism with eye color could change, but as early as Ancient Greece people were painting and describing their gods and deities with light eyes (and fair hair) because it was seen as special. It is a bias for the uncommon, but fiction is meant to be filled with the uncommon, especially escapism fiction. Most people don't want to delve into a story that reflects off of their mundane lives. And some of these tropes are just hard-wired into our psychology. Certain colors make people think of certain things or even act certain ways (ever wonder why most fast food colors are red and yellow?).Would you ever think of orange as a peaceful and soothing color? I can say warm brown eyes and that seems normal but what if I try to describe someone's brown eyes as cool. Cool brown? It's off. Brown just isn't a cool color and trends can change, but there are some things that are just innate with human thinking. Of course there are exceptions, but I'm just pointing out why other colors are so popular. Although I prefer blue and green eyes I do like very dark brown eyes (I think that's a good color for darker, more devious characters). And Dragon Age definitely needs at least one dark eyed companion in the next game... did Mass Effect have this issue at all?

My boyfriend's are green but have splashes of hazel around the pupil. He will deny this because he doesn't like the idea of any brown pigment in his eyes. But I've spent enough time looking at them.
