I think my biggest concern at this point is that I can romance someone other than Iron Bull with my fem qunari. I am not interested in the bull. I'd like to romance Cullen with her, but if he is the other race gate then.............I dunno. I guess she's a single lady, or she's a lesbian. 

 

FemQunari/Sera is adorable. Sleep on it, you might find it cuter than you'd expect.

Does anyone ever wonder if the reaction to Solas being heterosexual was so negative because we have been conditioned to expect elves to be either bisexual or gay?

 

So far every elf we've had (prior to Solas) wasn't heterosexual. In a way, he deviates from the typical "elf romance" trope. You know? Sorry to point this out, it just kinda dawned on me. I know people are upset, but I find it unique to have a heterosexual elf who is also a mage. Usually the straight ones are warrior humans (Cept for Morrigan and her mage-ness. heheh)

I think it's definitely because Cullen is already straight and most didn't expect another straight character. It wouldn't be a problem if they'd offered a different LI to balance it out, at least not for most posters I'm aware of and not for me.

Isn't it obvious why Solas is gated to elves?

He's actually a centuries-old vampire who subsists entirely on the blood of elven women, feeding upon his victims during acts of lovemaking. If the Inquisitor agrees to provide him with blood, Solas eventually offers to turn her into his undead bride.

I'm glad he's been confirmed as an LI, but elves only means that my second human female mage may have to also be a non-romance playthrough.

I'll also have to make a new character because my only female elf is gay.

I mean she's an OC, not just a rpg character, so it's not like I can change her to suit my wants.

Oh well, I have my fanfiction to write it seems haha. Not like I haven't already been doing that for another non-romance character.

I like the theories, It'll take alot not to nose through my guide when it comes to find out more.

I also don't know if any devs will read this but..Thank you for making this game, and apologies for any pestering, and foul pm's that may have resulted from fans, You guys are amazing. Also Gaider, do get better, have some potions filled with fan tears to get better.

same here. I have a malformation that would not let me have children in the future. So for me it will be or surrogate mother or adoption if I want children. a depressing thought, since I like children, and I would love one day have at least one.

 

so having my characters in videogames having the chance to have a family is very fullfilling for me. Of course the "children or not" should always be a choice. I would never impose something as important as parentood to anyone, even in a virtual world.

 

and elven kids are cute! :3 little pointy ears everywhere! like hairless kitten! (ok, crazy moment gone...but I can see Varric be an uncle)

 

still, I was hoping for Solas being BI. I'm very sad for all those that wanted to romance him with a male character   
I'm still quite shocked about the double restriction. But very curious too about the story reasons. must be quite important to have such severe limitation to elven only. But I think it can be because he won't to be seen as just an elf. and maybe he feel that only another elf would see him as not "just an Elf"?

Maybe Solas is some kind of royalty/noble from ancient time of Arlathan and since the dalish are usually connected to royal families of Arlathan he decides to marry the Inquisitor due to some ancient magical elven pact or ritual. Hm

This would be pretty closed-minded of him, wouldn't it?  That every other race is too closed-minded by default so he won't even give them a chance to prove otherwise?

Entirely possible but the devs keep saying "story reason" and "makes SUPER story sense" so it seems like they're implying something else.  We'll just have to wait until November to find out what "story reason" means in this context.

Well, whatever the story reason is we know it's going to cause a sh*t storm because it's impossible to please everyone. Some people will agree the story reason is cool and a few vocal ones will raise h-e-double hockey sticks over it because they think it's lame.

 

Note to self: avoid the forums for a year after the game comes out. Play the game instead.

well, you can be open minded and accept being friend with everyone, but sometimes there are thing that you can't really let it go if you are going to be in a relationship. I for example could never date a guy with drugs problems. I have had and still have a friend with those problems. I'm always present to help, and I can understand him, and have no problem to be friend with people like this. But I could never date a person who have the same problem. That's one of the things that make me quite diffident towards Cullen. (Templar=lyrium=drugs)

 

But I suspect the motive for Solas's preference is more elven lore tied.

I don't think it's really the same thing.  In your example, you know that person has an addiction.  In the example with Solas, it would be not knowing how an non-elf thought of him but making an assumption, potentially a wrong one, and then letting that influence all future interactions.

 

That's what I'm thinking.
