My hair is dark brown and very thick and I'm worried that bleaching it will damage it.

When I had it professionally bleached and dyed, I noticed myself losing a little extra hair in the shower, but not much. And it tapered off after a few washes. I've also had a few strands break, but again, not much.

You can always try it at the very ends of your hair, the last inch or two. That way if your hair doesn't play well with the dye or the bleach, you can just cut it off.

... At the tips of my hair, maybe :D I'm too pale for dark hair color, and I don't really think "gothic" look is one that is for me - I prefer something neutral (or, ahem... 'faded' :D), but with a few strong accents or contrasts here and there. Therefore some sort of ombre or gradient effect with strong, colorful highlights or silvery hair to go with noticeable jewelry or accessories (kinda like now with my neutral mousy brown/blonde)...

Yes! The hair color will be all new, faded for you :D

My friend recently got her hair to almost shoulder length after she shaved it in order to fix all the damage from a lot of dye and heat. She has thick, curly hair (thanks to the Mexican side of her family). Being pregnant this year may have helped it go slightly faster.

Yeah, that was my concern too. After almost two years of bleaching my hair was getting a little thin and icky. I've grown it out primarily just to let it recover.

I mean, as much as dying hair is a pain in the ass I miss it a lot. Nothing wrong with being outrageous!

I have to admit, as much as sometimes I am annoyed how general population can view artists as the colorful bunch with butterflies in their head instead of fairly normal life and good amount of reason, it is sometimes a good excuse to do things that may not be so easily "forgiven" when it comes to less artsy people.

"Hey, what's with the hair/piercings/tattoo/whatever???"

"... Artist!"

"Oh, ok then... carry on!"

Not that I do it often :D I'm generally a rather unassuming person - kinda comes with living in a pretty drab place where a lot of 'off' things are immediately spotted. I sorta have all kind of "outrageous" (not really, but eh) views, so I sort of balance that out by being relatively unnoticeable to not bring unwanted attention to myself (*cough* kinda like a certain apostate elf...), but ey - this is not about bringing attention, but some sort of change that I feel is needed. And if someone bothers to comment, then oh well... Artist and all :D

What does "all new, faded for her" even mean? Why did Cole say it in the Crossroads?

The name of Solas's personal quest.  And it sounds a bit funny because it's an anagram of "Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf."

My hair is also very short!  Like I said - Merrill (I even have the huge green eyes).

I feel so very, very odd when my hair isn't what other people would tend to consider very long. Even right now, it's shorter than I would like (even disregarding all of the choppy layers) and still falls nearly mid-back at the longest part. It was waist-length before I cut it and that felt right. I'm just under 5'6" so you can imagine how much hair that was. I'm not myself unless I look like a Disney princess, I guess.

This is also why dyeing it would require a lot of certainty - or be limited to streaks I can dye back and blend in.

I'd actually want to know what that means, because I just can't translate it in my head - I mean - I know the words used there, but somehow can't make sense of the sentence.

In my language version it was translated... badly.

Any help with that?

Everything is passable if you call it art:  "What have you done with your hair?"

"I'm an artist."

"Why is your pantry filled with nothing but tea leaves and salami?"

"Artist."

"Why are there blood stains on the walls?"

"Art!"

"Why are you moving to the outback?"

"To be an artist!"

"Whose corpse is that?"

"...I'm an artist?"

It doesn't really mean anything, there just isn't enough context.  If we were talking about, say, furniture repair, then it would be different.   "Have you fixed my wife's couch?"   "Why, yes! The upholstery is all new, faded just for her!"

Under the actual circumstances, I think it's just meant to be vaguely mystical and deep sounding. It gives the impression that things have changed, but not for the better.
