Oh yeah, absolutely fascinating and fun to think about. Also I just realized that for every chapter so far except the one with Vivienne, I was researching some bodily function

My hair is also very short!  Like I said - Merrill (I even have the huge green eyes).

 
Short hair is actually great to dye since it grows out quickly, so if you need to get rid of it, or in the worst case scenario, things go wrong, it can be dealt with very quickly.
 

Everything is passable if you call it art:  "What have you done with your hair?"      
"I'm an artist."
 
"Why is your pantry filled with nothing but tea leaves and salami?"
"Artist."

I feel so very, very odd when my hair isn't what other people would tend to consider very long. Even right now, it's shorter than I would like (even disregarding all of the choppy layers) and still falls nearly mid-back at the longest part. It was waist-length before I cut it and that felt right. I'm just under 5'6" so you can imagine how much hair that was. I'm not myself unless I look like a Disney princess, I guess.

 

This is also why dyeing it would require a lot of certainty - or be limited to streaks I can dye back and blend in.

Well, they got their intended effect. 

I was very concerned with the criticism of the dialogue. I mean, I talk like that! Am I unrealistic? 

Perhaps Washington gradually adopts Oregonian slang? And then it trickles down into British Columbia?

 

I've Googled plenty of weird things for writing before. How much blood pools from a certain kind of wound, smoking, different types of fire, how to set a fire, if chainmail bunches up in weird places, various weird superstitions like Slavic squash vampires (Pratchett wasn't kidding about the melons biting back.    ) wergild, folk music, the history of bestiality, etcetera.

I used to have hair that long too!  It was a paaaaaaaain.

 

Mine used to be down to my thighs but waist-length is enough for me now. With layers to not look super flat. I love it that long. The only fun thing about my annoying current choppy layers is the ability to make adorable, swingy ponytails.
